Okay, okay, I now what you're thinking: A videogame based off a pretty dumb tv show. There's no way this could be good. Alas, I thought the same way, but based on what other positive things people were saying about it I decided to cave in and buy it. And the end product? It's actually not bad at all. In fact, it's pretty fun. Lets get to the questions first: So, what's the game play like at all?: The game play is a sort of mix between Bushido Blades and Mortal Kombat. Instead of there being preset combos and attacks, each attack you make is very important. you usually die in about 3 - 5 hits depending on which characters you play as, so it's important to always know when to attack and how to attack. The fun part about this game is the huge amount of violence and fatal slices/projectiles every once in awhile. You can get limbs chopped off, decapitated, even have your head ripped off by spears. Bones will break, blood will be everywhere, and fights are so fast and brutal they might not even last more than 30 seconds. I never played Bushido Blade, so how is it anything like that?: Bushido Blade was an interesting sword fighting game released on PS1. There are no health bars, and the point is land a fatal strike on your opponent. The slightest wrong move could lead to your demise. The entire game is pretty much a modern day Bushido Blade. So how is it anything like Mortal Kombat?: This game has health bars, the ultra violence the series is known for, and FATALITIES!. Unfortunately, there is only one fatality per character, but each one is satisfying to watch and is the most brutal way to kill your opponent. How many characters are there, and are there any unlockables?: There are 8 characters total with another coming soon: Apache Indian, Ninja, Knight, Roman Centurion, Samurai, Viking, Pirate, and a Spartan Warrior. Playing through Arcade mode will unlock you alternate armors and weapons. If you play through Arcade mode with all characters, you unlock Challenge mode which gives you 4 different challenges, including survival modes and a mode where every slice chops limbs off. Arcade mode is basically Super Smash Bros. 64 having you fight every enemy and you playing mini games in between. Is there any online if so how is it? This seems like the perfect kind of fighter to have random online versus: Yes, there is online! However, I haven't tried it yet, so I can't tell you how good it is. There are of course going to be characters who abuse cheap tactics (ninja/apache with poison arrows and darts) but other than that, it seems like it would be fine to me. I played the demo, the demo sucks: Yeah, the demo isn't that great because they default the difficulty to hard (change it to normal if you're getting your ass kicked), and the character matchup isn't great for the demo. Once you actually get the game, though, it starts to get pretty fun. i heard this game had the right idea, but that it was just executed poorly.
I see Vikings and Pirates.
i heard this game had the right idea, but that it was just executed poorly.
Yeah, there are a few things in the game that is just utterly stupid. For example, to unlock the weapons for each character, you have to succeed in the mini games in Arcade Mode. If you fail, you have to play through arcade mode again to that mini game so you can unlock their weapon. Also, Normal tends to be too easy at times and Hard is just too hard. EDIT:
Is there any online if so how is it? This seems like the perfect kind of fighter to have random online versus.
Yes, there is online, I'll put that in to the OP.
And Ninjas
I tried the demo and it pissed me off. On the first round of the game I ever played of it, I got insta-killed by a ninja star. Do not want.

Since when was it a bad show? I think the show is great. Anyways, I hope they add new characters. Would be cool if they made one based off the guys who use actual weapons, so it would be a 6v6 multiplayer/co-op game. You can be Mafia or SWAT or whoever and fight whoever. Would be very fun if done correctly.

Also, I hope that is not you in the videos. Because whoever is, they are wasting their arrows/bullets/whatnot right away and that is why they are dying every damn round.

I just pulled a random gameplay video off youtube just to show off what it looks like in action.
The fatalities looked really bad made.
The fatalities looked really bad made.
They need dismemberment. And for, when the ninja stabs the guy through the chest, the sword to move with the body. But some of the animations look cool.
The fatalities looked really bad made.
I got to agree, the pirate fatality is funny though.
Might buy this, it sounds fun.
Pirate: Drinks a bottle of rum, "Want some?" What the fuck?
Do the characters get all the weapons they had in the show? In the show the blunderbuss was pretty much the deciding factor for the pirates, yet I never saw it used. Also, it needs more Shaolin monk; those hook swords were the most badass thing ever.
why does this game remind me more of War Gods?

The blunderbuss is overpowered out the ass, you only have 2 shots with it but if you use them wisely the match is over in less than 5 seconds... One thing I noticed was at the end of each fighter's campaign the very last character you fight is the one they fought on the show, with the exception being the [sp]Pirate, whose last enemy is the ninja. I thought that was a nice touch :3[/sp]
I'd rather wait for the new Mortal Kombat.
The game is way too simple, oppenents die in a couple of swings.
I'm not going to get this, mainly because the show is really inaccurate, so I can only guess what it will be like in the game
Are there any infinites?
The most badass fatality award goes to Apache.
I find this game incredibly entertaining, but I'm not entirely sure why. Perhaps it's the fact that you can't be certain of who's going to win a match. I remember dominating my friend, only for him to whip out the Pirate's gun and shoot me in the face. This is a great game to play with a good friend.
I love this game. It's not overly complex like I find most fighting games to be, yet each character has their own playing style and combos. Sometimes fights are fast and short, other times they are drawn out and incredibly brutal. Reminds me a lot of the UFC Undisputed games. You can be kicking someone's ass the whole fight until they land a lucky blow that gets your ass. There's nothing more entertaining than getting your ass kicked by a ninja only to chunk a spear at him as your last desperate attack and have it drive through his head. Also, the fights where you're just completely fucking each other up, hacking off arms and stuff yet continuing to fight, are just awesome to take part in. I don't even care when I lose those fights, just participating in it is awesome enough.
I couldn't get into this. I don't know why, it's my kind of thing, but it just didn't feel fun. It felt slow and clumsy. My friends loved it however, but I'll chalk that up to them playing local multiplayer instead of against bots. The pirate is awesome though.
This game looks terrible tbh.
I'm not going to get this, mainly because the show is really inaccurate, so I can only guess what it will be like in the game
This game is more realistic than the show.
