No this thread isn't parodying that other one. Recently, I remembered a Half Life 1 mod called Hazardous Course 2 that I had a grand time with and enjoyed so much that I went through the trouble to complete it 100%. Thinking about it got me in the mood to play more Half Life mods. There are plenty of mods out there, but I don't know which ones are the best of the best and extremely enjoyable, like the one I mentioned. So, who better to ask for mods than my Facepunch brethren.
I'm mainly looking for fun, single player HL1 Goldsrc mods, but I won't shy away from any HL2 Source mods you might have in mind. File sizes and things like that don't matter to me. If it's fun, I'll play it.
Made this just for reference so you don't suggest them anymore:
Mods I Have Played Already:
Hazardous Course 2
Nightmare House 1 and 2
Cry of Fear
Research and Development
The Specialists
Half Mind
Stanley Parable
Black Snow
Mods That You Suggested And I Played So Far
Life's End
USS Darkstar
Poke646
Poke646: Vendetta
If you suggest mods that are already in the list above then I'm going to assume you're retarded. Thanks!
Look up Sven Coop, that contains a shitload of HL 1 mods that you can play solo or, obviously, with friends. Most of the other ones I know were multiplayer only, like Wanted or Stargate.
Scientist Slaughter House (and to a lesser extent the mod messup remix some other guy made from it), Sweet Half-Life, Peaces Like Us, Half-life: Invasion! (to get subtitles working you'll have to rename the text file for english subtitles to be the french file, since the mod uses the french one by default and you can't change that in game in the steam version of half-life), Heart of Evil, Chemical Existence (bit of a mixed bag with this one), P.O.V., Azure Sheep, Poke646 1 & 2, USS Darkstar, They Hunger 1-3, The Xeno Project1&2, Todesangst 1&2, Half-Life Chronicles (I don't even remember what this was like but I think it was good??), Afraid of Monsters director's cut, Absolute Redemption, Cry of Fear, Half-Life Halloween, Edge of Darkness, Case Closed, Half-Quake series, and ETC 1&2. Should pretty much cover it as far as the best singleplayer Half-life 1 mods go. EDIT: OOPS forgot about Paranoia.
Most should be here: http://www.fileplanet.com/32321/0/section/Gameplay Any that are missing you're on your own with finding. I hear there's an HD version of Heart of Evil, idk if I'd bother with it tbh, it's a fan made deal. You'll need to skip the intro level or two to get heart of evil to work though due to broken AI at the start.
Afraid of Monsters: DC
Cry of Fear
Sven Co-op
Poke646
They Hunger 1-3
Paranoia
For HL2 lore mods:
Minerva
Rock 24
Precursor
Research and Development (puzzles focus)
I've been addicted to Double Action: Bogaloo lately. It's basically The Specialists: Source. It's really really really rough around the edges atm, but god damn it still plays good.
Snip.
Zombie Panic! Source

Don't really listen to what everyone will mostly likely talk about this mod, they haven't player for like 3 years ago and it's changed a lot, the devs has fixed every flaws now (like there is not invencible barricades!), it's really really fun to play
Nightmare House 2, while not offering much new in terms of gameplay features, is wonderfully done and has everything in just the right quantity, keeping you interested until the end.
Smod, especially later versions, will definitely make your regular HL2 playthrough more interesting.
Beware with Paranoia because it can trigger the VAC if you play online with it, although I don´t remember now if you could choose install the file that triggers it or not.

As said, MINERVA. It's also available through Steam so you should get it anyway.
And no matter what anyone says, not Portal Prelude. Text-to-speech everywhere and they try to pass off poor level design and stupid reflex puzzles as "skill-based". Not to mention it completely rapes the feel of Portal with its forced bullshit and turning Aperture into a death factory rather than a science facility.

That's what happened though, GLADOS killed all the scientists :v:

Also, the Stanley Parable is very fun (surprised no one mentioned it yet).

Prelude is before GLaDOS was turned on, though. It makes the scientists actually sadistic rather than just amoral and incompetent. [SUB]I did enjoy the puzzles, though.[/SUB]

I hated the guy at the end, all his dialogue was annoying, and so was his voice.
The only other thing that annoyed me was [sp]the hall of shadow people, because for some reason they didn't appear for me so I was wondering why I was "randomly" taking damage.[/sp]

Oh, and if you're in to more "realistic" FPS games, Insurgency: Modern Infantry Combat is apparently good.
They're making a stand-alone sequel version called Insurgency.
There's one good mod I played a long time ago, called Get a Life, it's quite lengthy.

http://www.moddb.com/mods/poke646
http://www.moddb.com/mods/poke646-vendetta (its sequel)
These are the mods that I've really enjoyed for HL1 and would recommend.

wtf is this
I'm liking the suggestions far. Just finished a HL1 mod called Life's End which had quite an unexpected ending and some pretty comedic moments. Time to move on and start on more of your suggestions. Think I'll go for Sweet Half Life next.
Keep them coming.

An extension to this:
Dangerous World
City 7: Toronto (Voice acting isn't great, but it at least provides a story)
Half-Life 2: Calamity (Short, but fun if you like the pre EP1 city 17 maps)
Half-Life 2: Offshore (http://www.moddb.com/mods/offshore also not sure if you might be willing to play this, since last I played it was quite broken to actually get to work, and had to do various hacky methods to make it playable, you might have better luck though since it might have updated, it's also really long without a whole lot of story, but I found I enjoyed its length)
You could also give Awakening a try, I played it a while back but I think it was okay, voice acting was bad though.

Also, Eye of the Storm and Mission Improbable are well done.
Several have mentioned MINERVA, none have mentioned Someplace Else for HL1. Made by the same guy, MINERVA is it's spiritual successor (and in some ways it's sequel as well).
https://hylobatidae.org/minerva/parallax/someplace-else.html
I remember it being only 1 map, but it's a cracking good play.
the Great Forever Tomorrow is one of my favorite mods for Half-Life 2. Very imaginative and very fast-paced.
[editline]10th July 2013[/editline]
Point of View is one of the more interesting single player HL mods I've ever played. You play as a vortigaunt sent in with the attack on Black Mesa right after the resonance cascade. However, events conspire to have your own army turn against you. You must then survive alone in the sprawling acropolis that is Black Mesa.
Silent Escape is pretty good. It also has got some voice acting by James, from valvetime.
Edited:
There was also an HL2: EP2 mod(I think) that you only used grav gun and it wa sall about puzzles.
Beware with Paranoia because it can trigger the VAC if you play online with it, although I don´t remember now if you could choose install the file that triggers it or not.
nope, the dev confirmed that to be bullshit, you will not get vacced for it
*Cough*
rot-life
also, Afraid of Monsters Director's Cut. absolutely sublimely-crafted and well-paced, gritty, early-2000's horror that suckers you in, creates an overwhelming feeling of dread, and never relents.
http://www.moddb.com/mods/hl-residual-life
The maps for this mod were really well designed and has really high quality mapping, though at times the puzzles are a bit confusing and you can be unsure what to do/where to go.
Also the ending is rather anti-climactic, though most HL1 mods have this issue.

I never heard of this mod, but I just looked it up and you're theoretically incorrect

I have no idea why it should prevent you from joining though.
