A couple days ago I fixed my 360's 3RR problem by applying new thermal paste, cleaning out dust and the like. But I still new that under that 3RR, was the treacherous "e74" error. I know it has to do something with the HANA/ANA chip, but there's so many different methods of fixing it, from the penny trick to heatgunning, to just plain pressing down on the chip, I don't know which one to do.
Has anyone ever fixed the e74 error ? What is the best method of fixing it ? And most importantly, why ?
-All help appreciated.
I was about to tell you too send it in to Microsoft. But i just realized you probably voided your warranty.
OT; i heard that the penny trick was a pretty solid method at fixing the e74, but i cant speak for my own personal experience. i never tried to fix my own RROD.
I want a red ring too damnit! Why must my Xbox run so well?
I WANT PROBLEMS TOO! :(
It is.
I fixed my RROD with a couple of pence. It worked for about a month. Didn't work on my other RRoD Xbox though.
I heard of these RRoD fix kits around Ebay and the like, but never bothered to buy one.

What?
I have two problems with my Xbox 360.
1. Sometimes the disc tray doesn't open, I think it's getting stuck on some shit or something.
2. Sometimes it won't read discs, it makes two slight clicking/tapping noises then comes up saying "Open Tray".
Anyone know how to fix these?
I've had the first problem on my first xbox, which then went to get RROD. Got a second and the exact same problems.
Probably best to just get a cheap new one instead.

For the first one, just push the tray itself.
For the second one, you'll void you warranty if you do this. You have to open up the xbox, and unplug the DVD drive. Then unscrew it, and fuck around with the magnet-round-thing until it's in place. Careful not to damage the diode.
I'm on my second xbox, so I fucked around with the dead one.
To the OP: I don't know if it's true, but the blatantly bad coolers cause it. The heat just bends the motherboard, so the X-clamps get loose or something, and it causes the E74 error. I'm not sure if it's true though. My previous xbox died from it.
i've had my xbox since it first came out ages ago, play it every day, no problems whatsoever.

Same.
My Xbox RRoD'ed once but after i got a newer model sent from Microsoft iv'e been getting more e74 and e68 errors, i just turn it off and back on then it works like a charm. It's also RRod'ed a few more times but it wasn't anything a good off/on cycle couldn't fix. Sometimes the disc tray doesn't open when i start the console up but it eventually opens after 15 secs of pushing the button.

And my plug = play thing stopped working once i got the newer model too, same with my wireless mic but that was a piece of shit.
The closest I've been to a RRoD was at a toy store, and they displayed the 360 in it's full broken glory.
