Monday 20-Sep-2010 7:11 PM Erm, ever heard of Valve, Bobby?
Bobby Kotick has dismissed the likes of Valve, Epic, Ninja Theory, Level-5, Insomniac, Foundation 9, Gearbox, Sucker Punch, Rebellion and Terminal Reality - by calling Bungie the "last remaining high quality independent developer" in the world. Yep. Wow.
Activision, of course, has embarked on an exclusive ten-year publishing deal with Bungie for its new 'action universe' - widely assumed to be an MMO.
"Bungie are a very unusual company," Kotick told investors last week. "They're probably the last remaining high quality independent developer. It's very hard to [pauses]... that has sort of has institutional skills and capabilities. And they're a real company.
"When they started the process of looking for a new partner, they'd been in business with Microsoft. They had a vision for a product they wanted to create that needed certain skills and capabilities - that Microsoft had some of.
"But as they started to go and look at the obvious candidates, they realised that no company other than Activision had the skills that they needed to be successful for the vision of that product. These are things that you never would have envisioned five years ago.
"Blizzard had 2,500 people in customer service and support just for World Of warcraft. How you train them, how you manage them, how you organise them... how you use CRM tools in delighting and satisfying the expectations of your audiences.. it's something no other company [Bungie] talked to [could offer]."
Activision's alliance with Bungie provide the studio with its first such partnership since it split with former owner Microsoft in 2007.
The studio's Halo Reach topped the official UK Chart this morning - outselling Halo 3's opening week figures.
Meanwhile, Kotick has expressed a wish to sell repackaged in-game cutscenes to gamers as $30 movies.

Oh god rofl. Bungie is anything but the best.
why am i not surprised?
Independent?!
It's Kotick. What do you expect.
Bobby Kotick THINKS? Since when?
someone edit a trollface on him
hey im bobby kotick :words: and lots of money
A business man who only looked at the profits and not the quality. Pure faggotry.
someone edit a trollface on him
No, the opposite.
Bungie is a good company and all (even if you don't like Halo, it's hard to say Bungie is a bad place to work at), but the last remaining independent developer? The article mentioned quite a few and that's not even all of them.
It's getting to the point where I think Kotick is either mentally challenged or trolling the gaming community.
Independent?
At least Bungie releases their shit on time.
They're independent?
Good for you, Bobby. Good for you... :keke:
Oh god rofl. Bungie is anything but the best.
They're not the best but, tbh, I don't think anyone is. They're the greatest console developer of FPS games to be specific. Valve is the greatest developer of PC games etc. etc. Bobby is stupid for making such a broad statement.
this is important to the world of gaming how?
They're hardly independent...
I agree but I would add Valve to it and then it's good.
I mean Bungie integrated their website and game so well, and Valve releases games and contents with the customers in mind.

But none of the companies he stated/dismissed are independent.
Besides, Bungie's only current game is the Halo franchise. The games are decent but it's nothing to give them the "last remaining high quality dev" award. There have been much better FPS games than Halo.
In terms of listening to the fans then yes, Bungie does that really well. But so does Valve, soooooo...
How does a royal douchebag like Kotick become in charge of a gaming company anyways..? Seriously, he's like 100% anti-"gamer".
Kotick is the Hitler of gaming
and i know how ironic this is....
Goddamnit Kotick don't drag Bungie into this.
Also, he doesn't even listen to ANYBODY. According to him, CoD fans are BEGGING for a monthly payment system. Since when do gamers want to pay monthly except for high quality games, which the CoD series isn't.

dude, even for quality game series,NOBODY wants to pay to play
NOBODY
Kotick is like the antichrist of gaming.

NOBODY
Nobody really wants to pay period, both of your points are refutable
I want to ask, does seeing Bobby Koticks face, in any picture, want you to punch him right in the face?
Or am i alone on that one?
You know, I'm sure I could type out a lengthy, eloquent arguement as to why he's so incredibly wrong.
But frankly, Bobby Kotick is a dumb cunt, with absolutely no knowledge of the industry he's a part of.
