• Why isn't there a PC port of Red Dead Redemption already?

In the trailers, there was a notable PC CD ROM logo at the end, but Rockstar hasn't shown anything yet. How come someone hasn't just gotten the PS3 files and made a PC port?
Uhhh.... Rockstar said they aren't going to port it to PC. Also I don't think porting from PS3 to PC is that simple.
Because it's not happening.
"how come someone hasn't just gotten the ps3 files and made a pc port?" no stop just stop
because rockstar is shit at ports source: GTA IV
It would be nice, it could happen and it SHOULD, but R* are the worst at porting games so they should let someone else do it.
I think Rockstar is going console only now. See: Terrible GTA IV port, RDR console only, L.A Noire console only
I think Rockstar is going console only now. See: Terrible GTA IV port, RDR console only, L.A Noire console only
LA Noire isn't made by R* though, so it's not their choice whether it goes on PC or not.
Aww, I wanted mods!
Also I don't think porting from PS3 to PC is that simple.
Theres a 360 version.
How come someone hasn't just gotten the PS3 files and made a PC port?
I don't know whether you want them to make a PC port off the PS3 version or you honestly think that it's as simple as taking files from the game, slapping it onto a disc and calling it a PC version. If it's the second one, refer to the post above. Though if it was the first one, note that porting from 360 to PC is easier than PS3 to PC because they are incredibly similar.
because rockstar is shit at ports source: GTA IV
GTA IV has been working well for a long time.

They're too busy on the dreamcast port to worry about your silly PC.
I'm fine with it never being ported. I know I'll never play it and I'm not really bothered by that, and I don't see why people get so riled up about this stuff. If you're that desperate pick up a cheap console and play it on that. Oh and the GTA IV port thing, yeah it was a buggy piece of shit on release and practically unplayable on a lot of systems, but they did a great job of patching it up to full working order eventually. To be honest I think they were kind of put off the PC after the whole Hot Coffee mess with San Andreas. Later editions were changed to disallow modding even and likely discourage people from buying it on the platform. Yeah ports would be nice, but don't expect anything from them.
Because Rockstar is pissed that they couldn't win with modders in GTA IV.
Because Rockstar hates you.

Maybe I don't have 300$ on me right now. Maybe I just want to play a quality game without having to buy a new gaming system. Maybe PCs shouldn't be ignored when making AAA games. Also - Hot Coffee probably doubled SA sales. I doubt they hated that.
I was kind of looking forwards to playing RDR on my PC when it eventually happened, but now I know it's not happening. God dammit. What's the chance another company will port it? I really don't want to have to buy it for my 360 (which I never use any more anyway), especially since I can't use the 360 controller for shit now...
Also - Hot Coffee probably doubled SA sales. I doubt they hated that.
Yeah, but Rockstar got fire under its ass after that came out.

I don't like playing games on fucking consoles, if I'd want to get a console to play the game I would fucking get one, but I want to play it my PC, without the stupidly awkward controls and the horrible aiming that console games have. Some people don't get consoles and play games on them because THEY DON'T WANT TO PLAY GAMES ON CONSOLES. Rockstar aren't very fond of PC gaming.
Because it would take :effort:
Rockstar aren't very fond of PC gaming.
They fucking should be, modding in the PC versions of GTA3, Vice City and San Andreas is what made people play them to this day. If not for the PC versions, all those 3 would have been long forgotten.
First off I see this "hot coffee ruined PC gaming for rockstar "shit ever where. La Noir forums, GTA 4 forums, here. It litteraly has no baring on anything ever. To think it has even the slightest weight with why there is not a PC port is even dumber then to say "why cant we make our own version form PS3 files." Rockstars lack of PC ports can be sumed up into 3 reasons 1. They have difficulty porting the Rage engine as seen by early GTA 4 builds which arguably improved with patches but still ran very poorly compared to other equally impressive games. 2. They claim piracy as a real and common problem to them. They site torrent users and other large numbers as proof. If you believe this, read this first, so you can understand more about piracy numbers and why they are often inflated, then reevaluate your position. http://blog.wolfire.com/2010/05/Another-view-of-game-piracy 3. Their teams are (relatively) small and quickly change focus leaving little time or manpower for a port. In my opinion we will see a port in the next year, if not then we will never see one. Which is too bad because the PC market is there, we are just smaller then the console market and untill developers and publishers realize that 1-3 million sales is a success on the PC and not to hope for the 48 million they see on consoles, we will never see proper support from console developers.
Because it was shit.
I might be wrong here, but didn't R* say that they were not going to port GTA IV to the PC yet did it anyway? They even ported EFLC. While GTA IV does run like shit on most computers I still found it awesome as fuck on the PC and I'd love to try RDR out.
