I also google'd this issue.
So here is the story/problem:
Long time ago I have been having problems with punkbuster. I decided to uninstall BF:BC2. Why? Because I gave up :(
Yesterday I decided to re-download/install the game (via Steam). Problem was is that it didn't ask me to install Punkbuster when game was first launched. So I got my self back into the same bullshit. Something with PnkBstrA.exe not working.
I quickly went on Google, searched found a great (so I though) solution and followed it:
1. Go into your bf:bc2 folder and look for a folder called "install".
2. Go into the PunkBuster folder (in install) and run the application.
3. Uninstall PunkBuster, then restart.
4. After restart run the Application and install PunkBuster.
5. After finished installing Run the test.
6. You are done, go have fun.
Well he was some what right. It did in fact solve my PnkBstrA.exe problem, it is now running in my processor. So being a happy goose I turn on the game-> join a server-> Pick my cla------ PunkBuster Error: (yada yada) PnkBstrB.exe not working.
What?
I go back into the "install" folder and run the test again.. Boy oh boy how many errors have appeared. Told me to go make a ticket at "evenbalance.com/troubleticket/update_ticket.php" (I did do that)
But that all happened yesterday.. Almost 24 hours ago.. Still no reply to my problem from evenbalance. :(
This is why I came to you guys for some help, I really don't want to give up again and waste 5gb of my bandwidth for nothing.
If you are just gonna come here and say "Yeah, punkbuster sucks my balls".. Well that wont really help my situation.
EDIT #1: I have ran the auto-updater, it is the latest version of punkbuster. (for Battlefield bad company 2)

Well crap, I forgot to mention my game punkbuster is up to date
This loads everything.
I ran the tool as Admin: It told me "No new updates needed. All versions are up to date"
Open task manager, close all PnkBstr related tasks [B]and[/B] services (click the little shield icon before) then search and delete PB from your OS drive and reinstall. Using a registry crawler to remove all PnkBstr entries at once would be good as well. If that won't help something else seems to block it from running properly, officious security suite?

Problem solved (some what) after I reinstalled it, it still only gave my pnkbstrA.exe and no B.
I went into services and manually turned on B. So far it was working.

go to your firewalls and make sure lolpnkbstrb.exe is allowed through them. then go to task manager and click "New task" type in pnkbstrb.exe or find pnkbsterb.exe in system32 and start it.
