[IMG_thumb]http://game-server-hosting.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/gran%20logo.jpg[/IMG_thumb] Gran Turismo (often abbreviated to GT), is a highly successful and critically acclaimed series of racing simulation video games produced for the Sony PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable gaming systems. All of the games are said to simulate the appearance and performance of a large selection of vehicles, nearly all of which are licensed reproductions of real-world automobiles. Since the franchise’s first entry in December 1997, over 56 million units have been sold worldwide for the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3. OVERVIEW The Gran Turismo series is developed by Polyphony Digital and produced by Kazunori Yamauchi. The appeal of the Gran Turismo series is due significantly to the graphics, the number of licensed vehicles, the extent and detail of simulation, and the ability to tune performance. Handling of the vehicles is modeled on real-life driving impressions, tuning is based on principles of physics, and the sound of the vehicle's engine is based on recordings of the actual vehicles. The game has been a flagship for the PlayStation console's graphics capabilities, and is often used to demonstrate the system's potential. Although Gran Turismo has an arcade mode, most gameplay derives from its simulation mode. Players start with a certain number of credits, usually 10,000 (18,000 in Gran Turismo 3), which are used to purchase vehicles from several manufacturer-specific shops, or from used car dealers, and then tune their car at the appropriate parts store for best performance. Certain events are open only to particular types of vehicles. In order to enter and progress through more difficult races, a license-testing system has been implemented, which guides players through skill development. Players may apply prize money won in events to upgrade their existing car or buy a new one, collecting a garage of vehicles. Since Gran Turismo 5 Prologue launched on the PlayStation 3, an online aspect of the gameplay has started to evolve. GT5 Prologue has enabled users to race online with up to 16 players on track at once. Gran Turismo 4 for the PlayStation 2 was actually the first online-enabled Gran Turismo game but the online aspect of the game didn't make it past beta stage. Since GT5 Prologue is only a Prologue of Gran Turismo 5, the online portion of the game is basic and is set to vastly improve with GT5. Gran Turismo was developed by Polyphony Digital and first published by Sony Computer Entertainment in 1997 for the PlayStation video game console. After five years of development time, it was well-received publicly and critically, shipping a total of 10.85 million copies worldwide as of April 30, 2008, and scoring an average of 95% in GameRankings' aggregate. The game has started a series, and to date has spawned over 10 spin-offs and sequels. Gran Turismo features 178 cars and 11 race tracks. However, there are some cars which are exclusive to Arcade mode. INTRO GT2 Gran Turismo 2 (commonly abbreviated to GT2) is a driving simulator / racing game for the Sony PlayStation. Gran Turismo 2 was developed by Polyphony Digital and published by Sony Computer Entertainment in 1999. The games serves as a sequel to Gran Turismo. It was well-received publicly and critically, shipping 1.71 million copies in Japan, 20,000 in Southeast Asia, 3.96 million in North America, and 3.68 million in Europe for a total of 9.37 million copies as of April 30, 2008, and eventually becoming a Sony Greatest Hits game. The title received an average of 93% in Metacritic's aggregate. Gran Turismo 2 was also the first PS1 game to be emulated on the Dreamcast via Bleemcast. The game was also one of the top 5 best selling games in the Book of World Records Series. At the time of its release GT2 featured one of the largest lists of then new and historic cars available in a single computer games with nearly 650 from a wide range range of manufacturers from Acura to Venturi. In comparison the original Gran Turismo and GT3 A-Spec had less than 200 each. Certain notable manufacturers, such as Ferrari and Porsche, were not featured since the required licenses could not be obtained. However in the case of Porsche a company which modifies them, RUF, is offered as an alternative. The game also introduces endurance races, rally events, tuned cars, rally cars, and kit cars. INTRO GT3 Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec is a racing game, the first in the Gran Turismo series released for the PlayStation 2. Gran Turismo 2000 was the working name used when demonstrated at E3 2000/2001. As of April 30, 2008, the game has shipped 1.89 million copies in Japan, 7.14 million in North America, 5.85 million in Europe, and 10,000 in Southeast Asia for a total of 14.89 million copies. It is a part of the PlayStation 2's Greatest Hits. It ranks thirteenth in the list of best-selling unbundled console games of all time. The game was a critical and commercial success, going on to become one of the best-selling console games of all time. For GT3, the Gran Turismo Mode (Simulation Mode in the American version) has a reorganized layout, with a more structured and progressive arrangement of races and challenges. Races vary from short beginner events to multi-hour endurance races and also rallying events against an opponent. In addition, the car shops are now organized by country and then by manufacturer, which some find to be more intuitive than the East/West City method used in its predecessor. On the downside, far fewer vehicles are available in GT3 (just over 150 in total) than GT2 (around 650). This is attributed largely to the work needed for the more detailed graphics, providing detailed statistics for all the cars and the game's release being early in the PlayStation 2's lifespan. Other changes include the omission of the ability to "race modify" or add downforce to production cars, removal of suspension damage, and the absence of torque limits for races. New to the franchise, GT3 also contained unlicensed versions of actual Formula One cars that the player can win from endurance races. It was released on December 28th, 2004 in Japan and Hong Kong (NTSC-J), February 22nd, 2005 in North America (NTSC-U/C), and March 9th, 2005 in Europe (PAL), and has since been re-issued under Sony's 'Greatest Hits' line. Gran Turismo 4 is one of only two titles for the PlayStation 2 that is capable of 1080i output, the other being Tourist Trophy which was also created by Polyphony. By March 2010, Gran Turismo 4 had shipped 1.27 million copies in Japan, 3.05 million in North America, 6.56 million in Europe, and 170,000 in Asia for a total of 11.05 million copies and receives E3 2003 Game Critics Awards: Best Racing Game award. GT4 introduces several new elements into the installment, from Photo mode to real Endunrace races to snow rallying. GT4 was delayed for over a year and a half by Polyphony Digital, and had its online mode removed (later added in Gran Turismo 4 Online test version). The game features over 700 cars from 80 manufacturers, from as early as the 1886 Daimler Motor Carriage and as far into the future as concepts for 2022. The game also features 51 tracks, many of which are new or modified versions of old Gran Turismo favorites, with some notable real-world additions. GT4 continues in its predecessors' footsteps by offering an extremely large list of cars; the PAL version, for example, features 721 cars from 80 manufacturers. Each vehicle model has over 4000 polygons. Car prices range from about 2500 credits for basic 1980s Japanese used cars up to 4,500,000 credits for the top end (mostly Le Mans) race cars. Some special prize-only cars are not visible in the vehicle showrooms, and a few do not have corresponding dealerships, and thus are unmodifiable. The game includes some prize cars of historical interest, such as vehicles from as far back as 1886 at the dawn of the automobile. The game was announced at the E3 Sony press conference on May 11, 2004, the same conference where Sony announced the original PSP. Following five years of delays and speculation, it made a reappearance at E3 on June 2, 2009 in a playable form. It was released on October 1, 2009 as one of the launch titles for the new PSP Go. As of August 31, 2010, Gran Turismo has sold 1,960,000 million units. On June 1 2010, the game was rereleased as part of the Greatest Hits. Gran Turismo is available as both a Universal Media Disc (UMD) at retail and as a digital download from the PlayStation Store. The game features over 800 cars, although only four cars are present in any race. The exotic car manufacturer Ferrari is featured, and for the first time in the main Gran Turismo series, Lamborghini, Bugatti and various other cars were introduced and fully licensed. There is no damage model in the game. 45 tracks are included, and most can be driven forward and reverse, for close to 75 layouts. For the first time in the series, the game features the use of custom soundtracks that enables players to play their own songs whilst racing, but must be unlocked by progressing through the first secion of the Driving Challenge in order to use this feature which can be seen at the options menu. The music tracks can only be played if it is set on "MUSIC folder" and can be used for offline or online races. Gran Turismo features over 800 vehicles, each modelled accurately and statistics derived from their real life counterparts. Players will start with a low-powered car, but can upgrade as they progress through the game. The dealerships available change after every other race, so players won't always be able to buy what they are looking for. Like Tourist Trophy, there are only four cars (3 are opponents) feature in a race at any one time. There is an interior view available for each car — however, it is not detailed. Developed by Polyphony Digital and published by Sony Computer Entertainment, it is due for release in North and Latin America on November 2, 2010 and both Europe and Japan on November 3, 2010 on the PlayStation 3. It expands on the Prologue version and will be the first of the main numbered series to feature on the PlayStation 3. For the first time in the main series, an online mode will be available in the game, with 16 player capability. A damage model has been confirmed with variations of damage depending on whether the vehicle is "standard" or "premium". The final vehicle count for the game is over 1,000 cars. The game will feature 20 different locations and 70 different tracks. Night racing will make a reappearance for GT5, but it's not clear how many circuits will be able to be raced on at night. World Rally Championship, NASCAR, and Super GT licenses will be featured for the first time in the Gran Turismo franchise. A number of new additions to the Gran Turismo franchise will make their debut in Gran Turismo 5. A detailed damage model has been confirmed with variations of damage depending on whether the vehicle is "standard" or "premium". Weather effects are confirmed to be included, although the extent of the implementation is currently unknown. GT5 will be the first Gran Turismo game in the series' history to display in an optional Stereoscopic-3D resolution. Go-Karting will also make its first ever appearance in any Gran Turismo game to date with its inclusion in GT5. It's not clear how diverse the karting experience will be at this time. New visual effects never seen before in the GT series will also debut in GT5 including dynamic skidmarks, dust and grass being kicked up and affected by other elements and the ability for drivers to flash their headlights. Another new feature that will be included for the first time in the GT franchise will be a course creator. Gran Turismo 5 will become the first game in the Gran Turismo franchise to include both mechanical and external damage modeling (using the 'body melt' system), including a real-time deformation engine that will process model deformation according to the speed and angle of impact. In addition, it was revealed at the 2009 Tokyo Game Show that it will also be possible to overturn cars for the first time in the series. The vehicles in GT5 will be separated into "standard" and "premium" vehicles. Standard vehicles will feature a basic damage model with dirt, scratches and dents appearing on the car in the event of an accident as well as internal, mechanical damage. The more detailed "premium" vehicles will feature the full damage model with more accurate damage such as panels being ripped off. Gran Turismo 2 previously included damage, but was limited to mechanical damage only. Yamauchi has explained that he aims to achieve the 1000-car milestone but actual details on the number of cars in the game is still unclear, with the number ranging between 950, 1,000 and 1,000+. Lamborghini and Bugatti will make their first appearance in the game, following on from their introduction in Gran Turismo PSP, and it has been confirmed the new "gullwing" Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG will appear, along with Ferrari's recently unveiled 458 Italia. McLaren will also make their first appearance in GT5 as a native manufacturer, with the inclusion of the McLaren F1 road car (the F1 GTR race version was in Gran Turismo 4, but was included in BMW's dealership). Le Mans spec cars will make a return appearance. Early demos show no damage and only one track but more details may be revealed before the game is released. In an article briefly posted on Polyphony Digital's website, the introduction of electric cars was confirmed; this includes the latest Tesla Motors vehicle. Hybrids were previously included in Gran Turismo 4 with the Toyota Prius and the Honda Insight. At the 2009 Tokyo Game Show, Yamauchi mentioned that the latest hybrid and electric cars will be included, including the Tesla Roadster. The cars in GT5 will be separated into two types, "standard" and "premium". Standard cars will have standard headlights, very basic interior modelling and basic damage modelling. Premium cars will be extremely detailed inside and out, have headlights capable of high and low beams and an extensive, detailed damage model. The game will feature significantly fewer "premium" cars because they take longer to model. At Gamescom 2010, it was also revealed that GT5 will include the Jaguar XJ13 race car prototype, as well as the Ferrari 330 P4 and the Ford Mark IV race cars, and as the developers put it, "will allow players to create the race that never came to be", since the XJ13 program was canceled before the car was ready for competition. Up to 16 cars will be able to race on track at once and up to 32 karts will be able to be on track at once. This is the first time in the main numbered series that more than 6 cars are on track at once. Yamauchi said in an interview with Edge Magazine that Gran Turismo 5 could have some compatibility with the PlayStation Portable version. He said, in an interview with G4, that "we’re going to make it so that you can actually export the cars for the PSP version into Gran Turismo 5, so you can export your garage." Cars from Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will also be transferable to GT5. The game was reported by media in September 2009 to feature head tracking using the PlayStation Eye, though no official confirmation came in the following months. This feature would allow the player to move their head naturally while sitting down, upright, and have the view around the 3D cockpit change accordingly. Officially announced in conjunction with Toyota in January 2010 is a GPS-based device which, when loaded into the game, will create a 'ghost' lap of a run through a race circuit in real life if equipped for data recording, allowing someone to view or race against their real life driving. Naturally, this would only be available for tracks which exist in real life, there is no information on which or how many circuits in total will support the feature. Thats some liquid metal terminator shit right there. Did the car reform and try to find john connor afterwards?
I got to play this at PAX with the steering wheel and rumbling seat set-up, In 3D.
I want GT5 badly, it has the fucking Top Gear Test Track in it.
Could be a better megathread.. anyway, if I had the money, I'd definitely buy a PS3 for this.
I love this series. Sadly I don't have a PS3. Why are there so many great PS3 exclusives? I might just have to bite the bullet and buy one.
I need a PS3, so keen for GT5, PS2 couldn't do it justice.. at thread title, I'm not really that good a driver and I can get into the mid 6's with the Le Man's cars... Manual, aids on.
gt5 looks like it'll be boring like the rest (not to say i didn't have fun with 1-4 when i was younger) same old calculated handling, boring sounds, no damage, oh and the real fun part- 80% of the cars are just ps2 models without interiors. coooool.
Boring Sounds? are you high?
yes, they sounded boring and generic. either that or they were stupidly raw on stock cars. forza 3 does this but the forza has had the best engine sounds of any game really (EA does a good job with sounds on the NFS series)
Boring? Get the fuck out of here then. Also all the cars have interiors. There are (new)premium cars which is more detailed in everything. The standard cars all have interiors. And about the sounds are amazing. Also the pictures with the damaged ferrari. And why it is deformed that weird is beceuse that car was mainly made of plastic.

Do you know that this is for PS3?
Don't get me wrong, I don't think GT5 is going to awfully entertaining over time, but fuck me, It's a driving simulator. It's not meant to be MW2 style "PEW PEW PEW BANG BANG" trade it in. You get out what you put in, so if you don't want to spend the time getting a ferrari in the career mode, You're not getting that Ferrari. I'm not usually a graphics whore, and I can't drive for shit, but I might buy this because it's so beautiful. I loved the F1 car in GT5:Prologue.

Not only you are wrong, but also you need a damn eye check. They say 200 cars have interior deformation, not interiors. All cars got interiors, only certain cars have visual damage inside out. And I need a PROOF of your false statement.

Having an inch perfect damage model would be incredibly painstaking, very hardware intensive and just rather unnecessary. Gran Turismo is all about the driving and not crashing; if you want to smash up cars go play Motorstorm.
it doesn't have to be perfect it just needs common sense durr how 2 lok at crashs on google.jp
Watch this video: Notice how he has to crash into 20 walls at high speed before anything gets damaged
I'm happy it has damage physics. I remember back to the days of GT2, where there was no damage at all.
Quit your bitching, would you rather the cars have no damage at all?
Quit your bitching, would you rather the cars have no damage at all?
i'll quit bitching because i'm not going to buy it now
Quit your bitching, would you rather the cars have no damage at all?
I'd rather the damage didn't suck. All they have to do is change a number and make the cars crumple more, and it'll be fine.
i'll quit bitching because i'm not going to buy it now
Lol, car damage is your selling point.
Lol, car damage is your selling point.
When these racing games are all pretty much the same nowadays, yeah, it is
i'll quit bitching because i'm not going to buy it now
You don't want to buy GT5 just because the damage isn't realistic? Then, you can just fuck off.
Gran Turismo - is basically about not crashing At least they get the driving pretty much right, which is what Gran Turismo is about. To make realistic damage would be painful for them, and probably more of a novelty then anything else, I try not to crash at all. Yes, it happens, but as I said, it's about not crashing It's a driving simulator, not a "Lol I'm gonna crash and see how badly my car get's damaged simulator" [editline]06:36PM[/editline]
and just for fun, this screenshot (taken from the GT5 trailer below) shows the car advertising Gran Turismo 4 (but it’s a real-world car, so we won’t blame them):
I noticed this, there's a lot of Gran Turismo labels around the place, last night I saw a car with a Gran Turismo decal slapped UNDER the read wing of a car [editline]06:38PM[/editline]
Firstly, the 800+ standard cars won’t have interiors – so no cock-pit views for them.
