• Half Life 2 Lighting Problem

There seems to be a problem. I've tried restarting Half Life, but every time, all the shadows are gone. No shadows. In fact, everything is bright. Really bright, and the skyboxes seem to have suffered adverse effects as well. Exhibit 1: See how it's so bright in there? No shadows. Exhibit 2: The sky is so grey. Exhibit 3: This shit just ain't natural. Exhibit 4: Look you can even see the wall behind the Breen screen. Exhibit 5: Either that Citadel is glowing or my HL2 is broken. So, anyone else have/had this problem? More importantly, do you people know how to fix this annoying problem?
Whats yer pc specs? The graphics looks horrible. Even you put mat_fullbright 0
Everything looks like shit with fullbright on
turn on HDR
mat_fullbright 0 in the console
Do this. That is your solution. Don't listen to anything else unless you tried this and it failed.
Okay, there seems to be a problem. I went to try it out, so I loaded the first part as I did to demonstrate the problem before, and it all looked normal and not weird. See? So normal, and not weird. So, thinking the problem was fixed, I loaded my last save, back at the beginning of the "Black Mesa East" chapter. And the problem recurred. Not normal and weird. Also not good. So I tried the console command you all recommended (mat_fullbright 0). I was amazed at what happened next. To my great surprise and shock, a magnificent nothing happened. The command passed uselessly through the console. I tried activating sv_cheats 1, but that didn't work either. Look at all the amazing nothing. It's shocking. So, what next? Perhaps it's that save file. Maybe It'd be best to just reload the save before that one, as much as I resent that helicopter battle. [editline]10:59PM[/editline] Oh yeah someone wanted to know my specs. They're horrid, let's just leave it at that. Bad enough to make the average computer nerd keel over and puke.
I had the same problem in Black Mesa East and Ravenholm until I went here http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1286478&page=21 Try using "-dxlevel90" on the launch options, setting the HDR on your video options to full, and typing "mat_hdr_level 1" in the console This is how I fixed it but it might not work for you
Ok guys, all of you who've suffered through the screwed up fullbright starting from Black Mesa East chapter - here's the fix. Lighting Fix Download, & extract to "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\[Your Steam ID]\" Load the game & run with HDR off. This is the fix for lighting issues. If error persists simply use console to type "mat_fullbright = 0". It should work now. For the skybox which gets screwy starting from d1_eli_01 (Black Mesa East) fix is below: Sky Fix Same procedure as above. Enjoy!
