It's an addon which measures the capabilities of your gear with a number.

No, Gearscore IS bullshit. GS isn't even a viable method of knowing someones skill.
Gear Score add on is a really good add on and it does the job it suppose to do just fine.
It's not suppose to show you how good someone is.
It's just there to show you a number that represent the quality of your gear.
Nothing more nothing less.
To be honest, gearscore isnt SKILL per-say but to get those items require some skill therefore i only look for it to see if they are geared enough for raids

gs is shit though, i have a 5080~ gs and i beat rogues on the meters with over 5500gs. it's sad seeing bads with good gear.

What's easier, mousing over someone and finding out how much item budget they have, or inspecting them and going through each piece making assumptions?
Precisely, as flawed as GearScore is and as much as I hate the people who rely on it, it is a handy little time saver that can be useful.
I've been using wow heroes for gearscoring now, since my out of date gearscore addon shows up as banned, i dont wanna risk getting into troubleusing a newer one.
And i can use wow heroes to view anyone on any realm and compare myself to them. Its just better

Smart WoW Player: Skill > GearScore
Fact: Most officers are smarter then the Guild Master.
My guild uses gearscore to filter out the rabble. We know that our guild's members are good, but we have no way to estimate the skill of "that guy that whispered you."
My gearscore is 3100, And my guild said it was too low...
Half of the guild had 2000-2800
I'm at 5500 now, highest I've seen is 5850.
