Honestly, it's pretty good. After all, the majority of the art assets were created by notch at first, which was pretty good for a programmer.
Plus as an added bonus to using the default pack, you will always have the textures for new blocks and stuff when they're added.
Cobblestone is fucking terrible.
everything rocks but cobblestone
[editline]10th May 2011[/editline]
and sand
It's not ugly, but I do wish some things could be other things.
Buuut, I've been using the default for so long everything else looks incredibly wrong.
I really like the default, but the cobble ruins it so much.
I think it looks good, except for the grass looking bad in some biomes.
Cobblestone looks bad compared to the stone-bricks that most texture packs offer.
I like everything but biome-colored grass and cobblestone. Those are basically the only bad things in the default pack.
I think it is fine pack, but after seeing some other packs, it is pretty bad. I like using different texture packs based on what I am building.
Cobblestone and windows look like shit
Oh yes, Esteam is right. Windows also ruin it.

I have to agree, the cobblestone is a huge eye sore to look at.
I've grown to love the cobblestone texture, we make all of our buildings out of it and at this point I like it better than smoothstone...
[editline]10th May 2011[/editline]
windows are crap though
[editline]10th May 2011[/editline]
love the top of sandstone, but the side and bottom are crap
[QUOTE=Esteam;29746787]Cobblestone and windows look like shit[/QUOTE]
I remember when notch introduced windows (because everyone was using leaves as windows before) in creative and people were all "fuck yeah" but then everyone was all "FUCK NO REMOVE THE MARKS IN THE GLASS YOU RETARD" and notch never did remove those marks.
Cobblestone? I did not really care for cobblestone but I can't say it looks bad, but if I had to pick out a bad block it would be glass. Because it has those white lines that block your entire view.
No. At least, it's better than all the butt-fugly "realistic" texture packs out there.
I want glass to be completely transparent with just a small small border so you know it's there. And cobblestone needs to be fixed

And for the border to remove when its next to another glass block.
BORDER BORDER BORDER
BORDER GLASS BORDER
BORDER BORDER BORDER
Thats regular glass, heres one next to another glass block:
BORDER BORDER BORDER BORDER BORDER BORDER
BORDER GLASS GLASS GLASS GLASS GLASS BORDER
BORDER BORDER BORDER BORDER BORDER BORDER
I hate the default look, but then again I've been using Painterly exclusively for a few months now.
Everything is good except cobblestone and lightstone. My god that's bad.
It's not terrible, but it works. It could be better, though texture packs exist for that reason. :v:
Cobblestone rocks :rimshot:
The default bricks are pretty bad too, but no one uses them much anyway.
the new "fixed" grass looks like garbage.
I feel like it needs to be pulled together a bit more, instead of trying to fit new things into the kind of bland style.
It works, but it could be a lot richer.

For example, bricks seem really out of place. Bright red colour and white mortar? It would be way nicer if it looked more natural.
It's not the best thing in the world but it's not terrible either.
I've always thought about it from a gameplay-side interpretation. Cobblestone is a solid building material and easy to obtain, but it's ugly. Smelting it into smooth stone makes it look much nicer, but at a cost of resources and time. You get bricks from clay, which are rare and time-consuming, but look very nice. It's... "balanced."
Windows suck fucking dicks though
[QUOTE=NoobSauce;29749262]It's not the best thing in the world but it's not terrible either.[/QUOTE]
I agree. Some of these other texture packs are absolute trash.

Compared to what they used to be in Classic and Indev, they look a lot more realistic and darker.
