Ok so we've all heard and seen the "Ideas Guy". That one guy who makes some thread on the forum about some silly mod or game he wants made and attempts to assemble a team together that consists of like 50 mappers and coders, and doesn't get a single one. Not to mention he actually can't do anything other than spew out ideas. Anyway, this thread is about us sharing our thoughts on mods we like to fantasize about and hope that one day may actually happen. Remember, this thread is mainly for sharing your ideas for a mod, so if you have ideas for a full game and don't want to share it because you think some company is watching over us and might take your idea and claim it as it's own in some sort of conspiracy case, then don't post. Some basic rules: This thread ISN'T for recruiting people for your mod, this is just to share ideas. Rate someone winner if you really like their idea. If that said idea gets a lot of winners and people like to talk about, then try getting a team together for it. So with that said, let's begin. I like horror games. I like playing them at midnight only to play them for like an hour because I'm too scared to continue. One thing I've always wanted to see is a multiplayer game where one player controls the events that happen in the game, much like the Afraid of Monsters server in Sven Coop (link). I imagine that the player would be able to control sounds, spawn monsters, close/open doors, turn on/off lights, as well as jump around the level and teleport people. The link above is honestly the best example I can show you. Maps would have to be very large (maybe even consisting of two or three levels) to actually give the scare-er a chance to get around and get set up. Players would be given an objective (chosen by the mapper himself/herself) and the scare-er would do their best in attempt to make players piss their pants. The scare-er would have a small variety of stock sounds to choose from, like moans, screams, and stingers. They would be able to walk around the level as a person (much like in the video link posted) or fly around invisibly so they can easily enter rooms and such with players in them to mess with entities inside. I'm not sure how the scare-er would be chosen, randomly seems like the best choice but on a server change it could be possible that the person gets chosen twice in a row, which wouldn't be very fun. So Facepunch, let's hear your ideas.
i like games that don't suck dicks and lately that's all that has been coming out my idea is this: let's all work together to make a mod that doesn't suck. there's an easy solution to this: if there's a concept that sounds like shit, then it is shit, and it won't be feautured in my mod: baller mod. that's the title. who would skip by a title called baller mod? i wouldn't. i'd be watering at the mouth at the title alone. baller mod is about hugo baller; he's a horror adventurer and his girlfriend penelope got herself kidnapped by a pedophile named erwin mcgreggor. sound familiar? that's right -- you have to beat the shit out of everybody by stomping on their heads and you have to solve witty puzzles by jumping. it blends classic sidescrolling platformer juice with isometric tactics. you and your tactical team of SWAT dwarves have to sneak in to erwin mcgreggor's poppy fields in laos and netrualize erwin's pedophile force and save penelope it blends horror with dramatic action rail shooter sequences. what's not to love? make it for me and i'll make it go retail. but first i'll cut you from the team and take credit for everything. all profits go to me. thanks!
Recently there have been a lot of gritty modern war shooters where you're a soldier fighting terrorists (and by extension, terrorrism) and hiding behind chest-high walls. I want a mod where you are a chest high wall fighting soldiers (and by extension, soldierism) by waiting for them to take cover behind you and then crushing them and otherwise antagonizing them to death. You then gather and recruit an army of chest-high walls, bunkers, broken down vehicles, crates, unbreakable wooden doors and explosive barrels to take revenge on society. There could even be a secret, forbidden romance between the unbreakable wooden door and conveniently-placed ladder. :v:
i'm liking that idea!
I had an idea not so much for a story or gameplay concept but more for a perspective one. Instead of view models (which even Team Fortress 2 and the Left 4 Dead games use), you see the world model perspective of everything through your model's literal eyes. Pieces of the weapon models are individual for their respective bits of animation (slides, chambers, magazines, etc.). This would also show your body from the chest down with clientside rendering done to get rid of your model's head so it won't block your view. The problem with this, however, is that everything would have to be a moderate amount of polygons or higher-definition textures in order for it to not look crummy, and because the game would be relying on player model animations, the weapons could look like they're not even aiming in the right spot or, if using default player animations, the player would look extremely stiff. If pulled off right, though, it could also be extremely immersive if there wasn't killer headbob.
I call it American Patriotism and the fight for Freedom Unlike COD you're a giant Uncle Sam walking around a big map and each country has the stereotyped person above it. When you beat them you take a shit on that section of the map and plant a giant American flag. This makes Uncle Sam grow bigger and bigger while the rest of the world complains about how stupid Americans are. This will obviously be the greatest mod ever made and every major leading developer will fight to buy the rights.
until someone complains to gabe about it
how about you are a voice actor looking for work when all of a sudden the world is in danger: the international space station has entered earth's atmosphere! it's falling fast and is going to smash in to mount fuji and is going to cause a shockwave that will send us to kingdom come. your quest is to climb to mount fuji and dissuade the ISS from falling to earth. the ISS is your long lost mother and she is looking to take you back with her but you want to stay with your earth friends. your destiny lies here but she isn't having that shit, so you have this amazing boss duel where you have to blow the ISS apart by launching turds on it there's even a smartphone minigame called turd launcher where you have to make a catapult that launches poop nuggets further than ever before.
I'd love to see a short indie game where you do quite a bit of training as a soldier only to find out you're a useless mook and get gunned down by the "hero". In the model of a flash game, but not necessarily one. Also, a game that fuses traditional platforming with environment alteration and pathing, as in Kirby's Canvas Curse or Okami, would be very nice.
you're a hardcore gangsta rapper raised on a farm who wants to make it big time but the only problem is that you have no means of making it to the big city. because there's a bike thief going around you have no way of transportation to travel to hollywood so you decide to hitch a ride. problem is you're clear in west virginia and not a lot of people take black rapper wannabes as hitchers, so it's hard, you know? you eventually get a ride with a vegan couple headed on over to kansas to see their pops who's dying of terminal cancer and they tell you their story yo my father he aint feelin so well the other day he called me; he fell i knew it was enough; i knew that i had cause i might never get da chance t' say goodbye dad so here's my story and my girl whitney she's a total sweetheart and she dont like turkey so that is all cool and that be all fine cause i'm the same way; i even hate swine red meat aint for me and neither is white meat give me some sushi or greens; that shit i'll eat! i'll munch it up good and sure i may be lithe but it's better to be skinny than a big fat meat pie so you hear their story and you have to hitch a ride with a trucker who's going even further west to utah but this isn't an ordinary trucker; he's a pro at crochet yo here's my motherfuckin story about my goddamn crochet pick up my needle and stick it in da net and i twirl it around once; maybe even twice bust that shit right on through and make it look all nice yeah motherfucker i'm stitchin up a song a rap beyond words; this rhyme you so long anyway you carry on and finally find refuge in vegas and you realize through your journeys that you're better off being a motivational speaker who speaks in rhymes it'd be like the most heart-breaking earth-shattering virtual experience ever created. this dynamic adventure game will make you laugh, cry, and punch niggas in the throat. who wouldn't buy this mod
Ok, you don't have to share all of your ideas with us...
i'm contributing to this thread if you dont like it delete it OH WAIT YOU CAN'T HATAHAHAAHAA
Ok I'm pretty sure you're just thread shitting. And no, I can't delete, and I don't plan on it, but if I wanted to I could easily ask a moderator to take care of this thread. Or better yet, you.
i'm kidding baby but i'm all out of idea juice for the night. i'll come back tomorrow
I want a Crowd Dispersal Unit set for the Soldier. Primary: The Tear Jerk, a launcher that fires tear gas containers taped to rockets. It would travel slower and have a longer reload, but creates a temporary area-of-effect after hitting something. Enemies that come into contact with the tear gas experience a slowdown effect, as well as take 5 points of damage a second. Secondary: The National's Guard, a riot shield that can only be used with a melee weapon. Increases certain types of damage resistance from the front by 70%, but increases damage taken from behind by 30% and causes a 90% slower weapon switch. Melee: The Ne'er-do-well's Nightmare, a nightstick that increases melee speed by 20% and causes a small slow-down on a successful hit, but does 30% less damage. Hat: Is not needed for the set bonus. Obviously a specialized Riot Control helmet. Instead of paint covering the whole thing and ruining it, a sticker on the helmet would change color. Set Bonus: 50% less knockback from all sources, 15% extra damage against enemies capping an objective, 15% extra damage taken from behind.
-_-
Oh, I'm sorry, I thought this was an idea thread.
It is, but it's not an ideas thread for hats and items in TF2.

an entire game set with N64 style polygons, and no actual textures (no faces either)... Everything is either a solid color, or composed of solid colors, the main character wears a suit and a gas mask and can turn into a shadow to avoid enemies, solve puzzles, and other such things (but you cannot attack directly). The mod itself is completely silent except for the background music, and a few little sounds that occur when you turn into a shadow and turn back, or trigger something. Boss battles are puzzle styled against shadow creatures who share the same powers as the main character. Also, the main story is this: Lab experiment goes wrong, group of scientists gain power to turn into shadows, all but one are overtaken by their shadows. You play as that one scientist who was not taken over by his own shadow. You have to pretty much hunt down the other scientists who are now shadow beasts, and at the same time protect civilians and stop some unknown government force that is trying to cover up this mess Black Mesa style (kill everyone). Game ends when the player has rescued the required amount of civilians, defeated all the shadow beasts, and stopped that silly government thing, last 4th of the game takes place in a city. Main character is then dubbed a Super Hero at the end, and names himself Shadow Mask. Game/Mod is a 3rd person puzzle game, with a non-turnable camera, but the camera set up Alien Swarm Style (whatever that style is called) (camera can be zoomed out, panned and such). The games color scheme is grey-scale, mostly White, (with yellow, or red for hazard lights and such).
its this game thats like halo with dinosuars. Ohwait.
I want a game called "Fuck shit up" You play as a viking teleported into a modern city. It will be like Grand Theft Auto in the sense that you can roam around freely, but there are no missions, there is no currency, and the only goal is to fuck everything up. You go around breaking shit around the city, you can hijack shit and crash it into shit. I want there to be realistic debris flying everywhere like in Burnout. One of your weapons should be screaming. If you scream at someone hard enough, they become a viking too and assist you in fucking shit up. You can either be elaborate in fucking shit up, or you can do it the simple way. For example, you hear about a business meeting in the 20th floor of an office building. You can take the elevator up to the floor and burst in with your posse and fuck shit up, or construct a giant ramp of dead bodies and burst through the window on your motorcycle You win when the entire city is rubble, you fucked all the shit up, or if everyone is a viking.

too late i already copyrighted your idea as mine, go cry in a corner while i take all your profits
:((

Just Cause 2 + GTA IV engine, cars and physics + San Andreas + Multiplayer
Yeah, I had this mod idea for ages. It's a hour after the events of Half Life 2. The Citadel is already damaged, and of course it'll blow up, and the Combine Depot Track attached to the Citadel Base in the City 17 underground has attained heavy damage aswell, allowing swarms of headcrabs to flood in. You start off a Civil Protection Officer Kelly Moss at Depot 12, watching an emergency broadcast signalling a critical mass failure of the Citadel Core and informing all Union Assets to evacuate the City immeadiatly. A masked Officer tells you to get your vest from the armoury, which has unfortunately been overrun with zombies. After that, you proceed to the main section of the Depot, where two higher-ranked, unmasked Officers named Redmond and Kate respectively proceed to tell the rest of the Officers about their escape plans. Suddenly, a Zombine manages to break through the emergenvy barricade used to stop the outbreak in the rest of the depot, allowing the zombies in, and also deactivating main track power. After a secondary barricade seperates the rest of the depot from the main chamber, everyone is proceeded to put into seperate squads to go on a field outing to Depot 6, the only remaining Depot with proper power in the Underground and to arrive at the main Overwatch Rendevouz point in City 17's old Commercial District. Since Kelly is the only Rank 4 Officer in the depot, she is assigned squad leader for three lower-ranking Officers Gene, Richard and Samantha. Richard is seperated from the others when a mass swarm of fast zombies break into the squad's area at one point, and Gene sacrifices himself to allow Kelly and Samantha to escape via an elevator. I'm not exactly sure what happens with the rest of the plot after that. But I did have idea of Kelly heading through an old luxury hotel being stalked by Assassins, or a moment where she sees two rebels brutally tortuing another Officer. There was also going to be Gonomes and Medic Officers. Gonomes would be introduced, but no fought, by being seen murdering a maitenence worker with it's acid, and then later properly fighting some of them in a large chamber full of Overwatch Converts undergoing memory replacement. Medic Officers would be wearing a more Combinized version of a Rebel Medic Uniform, the lore being that these Officers were introduced during the uprising, and were thus given a Uniform that could easily allow them to traverse the war-torn city. There was also gonna be more variations in zombies, with more mutations and such. There was also an idea for an Overwatch Unit with a Rocket Launcher, and a Stalker Variation that acted like a giant organic bomb. Kelly would end up getting killed by a Hunter in the end just before managing to board onto an APC with Redmond inside, but as she dies, everything goes wako. She's suddenly in a weird room stuck in place as a woman in a suit at a desk is seen. The woman talks about stuff regarding how "The best get rewarded", and you suddenly flash into a small town that seems to be before the Combine Invasion, with people greeting Kelly and asking if she's "Had a good trip". After some walking, you arrive at a house. The door opens as you approach it. Credits Roll.
That's not an idea, that's a story.
It's a mod idea.
I've had the idea of making a mod for Team Fortress 2 based on the story I've been writing. So far I have a rough idea of what it'd look like, most of my inspiration coming from listening to music and associating songs with certain events. Before I go in depth, you may want to read a bit of the story to get a rough idea of what I'm talking about. It would be mostly single player, with the option of doing the campaign cooperatively, and a simple deathmatch-esque multiplayer. The campaign would have different factions to play through, having to clear to a certain point in the first available one before unlocking any others- The WPA being the first, then the US, Zerstorung's Army, and finally the residents of the Pokemon universe. Throughout the game, you'll have access to a backpack like the one in TF2. Items you had in TF2 would be transferred over and bear the vintage title, no matter what previous rarity they had. As you progress in the campaign you'll get items as rewards, as well as money to be spent on weapon customizations. The customized rarity would be put to use on items upgraded in the campaign using the money you've earned. For me, thinking up boss fights seems to be the most fun, rather than plain levels. While I do have a few outstanding ideas for them, the number of boss ideas highly outweigh the level ideas. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just means I'll need to find a place for each of those bosses. How I envision them working is that the boss would have a set amount of health based on the difficulty chosen, and you try to defeat them with the character you're given. Some boss fights will seem impossible due to the abilities of the character compared to the boss (I.E. Civilian vs A Soldier) though it'll help amplify the fact that it's a boss, and isn't supposed to be easy for you or the character. As of now, I'm thinking the game would simply follow the story in terms of game-play. While the story is still unfinished I've already worked out a very large portion of it ahead of what I've currently written. Most of my focus is on pretty much everything -past- what I've written to this point, so most of my examples would be things I haven't written yet. For a majority of these future thoughts, I have multiple outcomes for each scenario, making it a bit difficult to choose on over the other. I'd give an example, but I can't really think of any that don't involve Pokemon in some way, but if you guys are interested at all I suppose I could share what I've come up with. I don't want this post to go on forever, so I'll wrap this up. I have no clue whatsoever on how I'd accomplish this, my first idea though is to pick up drawing so I can sketch up concept art at the least. If I ever did receive help, I'd in no way steal all the credit for it, though I'm not really sure how an Idea's Guy is portrayed... Now that I think about it I probably have a lot more to say about this, but I'll stop for now and hear some opinions on what I've said so far.
I want someone to make Call of duty black ops clone for source but with everything remotely cool I can come up with my 12 year old mind because my shitty computer can't run the genuine black ops and my parents wont buy it for me :downs:
