Everyone, It's ok. We can sit while playing Kinect.

According to http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/10/15/the-nightmare-is-over-kinect-will-work-if-you-re-sitting.aspx this article, Kinect now uses the neck as a base for movements instead of the spine. This will allow you to sit down while playing.
Now all they have to do is make it less terrible. But, everyone has dreams. :allears:
Less terrible?
Seems like you'd have to exaggerate neck movements and have a hard time watching the TV while trying to play.
So we will see this:
but on the couch instead?
The neck is the base instead of the spine? How exactly does that work? That must mean they completely removed full body recognition. First sign of failure. I really think they should stick to full body. So what if you're too lazy to get off your ass and play a game. That's your problem. Ever think that maybe it's unhealthy to sit on your ass all day? Microsoft is trying to make people not so lazy/fat. can't work with all you fatties whining about "oh my god I have to stand up to play a game?". Sheesh..what has this world come to. Back in my day, kids played OUTSIDE. They didn't have video games, or at least most didn't. They actually socialized with the real world.
I tried playing the Wii standing up for a while, it just felt awkward- then I learned you can do the same shit sitting down and never stood up again, unless I felt like getting into it really intensely for some reason.

Lightyears ahead of its time.
Best to stand up while playing Kinect.
That's what motion games are for.

Everyone was bitching about how you have to stand, so I made a thread about it to tell people that you don't have to stand up.
Not saying I disagree, but the majority wants to sit down.
It's because it becomes impractical for gamers, who tend to play for hours on end, opposed to a 15 minute workout with Kinect.
Guys I got the perfect idea to fix Kinect.

Make it so that you can plug this in to your Xbox and then you can sit on your couch and press buttons and use analog sticks. It's ingenious!

How is it better to be active than to be not active? That's like saying it's better to eat a cup of sugar every day rather than an apple.
How is it better to be active than to be not active? That's like saying it's better to eat a cup of sugar every day rather than an apple.
If you want to be active, go be fucking active. When I play games, I want to veg out and relax and enjoy myself, not feel like I'm working. That's what my gym set and my bike is for.
I don't know why some people whine that you have to be standing to do it. Good job morons, if you wanted to use motion interactivity with only your hands then go play the Wii or the lacking-in-innovation Playstation Move.
How is it better to be active than to be not active? That's like saying it's better to eat a cup of sugar every day rather than an apple.
Outside, which is free, generally less retarded, and more active than making a slow 360 spin in a racing game or touching a fake tiger all alone in your living room.
Still beats doing absolutely nothing.
I don't know if anyone has noticed but I rarely ever see any children playing outside anymore. It's so god damned rare I'm starting to wonder if anyone is even reproducing at this point. Parenting has become so lazy that parents will not punish their kids for not playing outside. They will encourage their kids to play video games because they don't want to watch them 24/7. Our future, these kids, are not going to give the world much to hope for if they don't actually do something with themselves. So yes, if it means they are spazzing out to a video game which isn't real when they won't do anything else because it isn't a video game, I am going to say that the more active a video game makes you, the better.

If you want to exercise go to a gym, or better yet go outside.
Most kids would rather play Halo or CoD than Kinect Animals, Kinect Adventures, and Kinect Fitness combined.
[editline]16th October 2010[/editline]
They're not aiming for kids by the way. They're aiming for people who do not know how to play a videogame with a regular controller.
or touching a fake tiger all alone in your living room.
For some reason this made me feel really depressed
It's funny because there are some of you who actually think this is an alternative to exercise
If you want to exercise go to a gym, or better yet go outside.
The gym is actually "outside" the basement.
I'm not even gonna bother with this.
God, it's a video game, your supposed to relax and enjoy with a controller or mouse/keyboard.
If you want to be active, go be fucking active. When I play games, I want to veg out and relax and enjoy myself, not feel like I'm working. That's what my gym set and my bike is for.
I don't think you're the target audience for the Kinect.
And also, why is there bitching about an optional accessory for the 360? There is still a controller to use, and I doubt the next Unreal/Halo/major 360 release is going to require you to use Kinect.
I mean, it's like someone saying "Hey, you guys can have an apple for 50 cents, and it's cool if you don't want one" to an angry crowd of people saying "No, make me a fucking cookie. I don't want your healthy fucking apple, if I wanted one I'd go to the grocery store"
And on another note, a lot of people live sedentary lifestyles, whether it's office work or sitting in school all day. You guys need to udnertstand that not everyone goes out and does manual labor; for some people the Kinect is going to be a great way to relax and get a workout.
Now I'm rambling. But seriously, why the fuck are there people that are so averse to physical movement? Maybe it's just me not spotting as many lazy people before, but it sure seems like everyone has some sense of entitlement in the sense that they shouldn't have to get off their asses.

Because most developers will have valuable time taken away making the "optional" kinect control shit in a new game because their publisher said "it's the new thing, we gotta do it and get more customers"
That's why. It's optional, but a snowball can roll and build up to an avalanche of fail

Yeah, or people who get their physical activity somewhere else instead (like the gym for example) and don't really feel like flailing their arms in front of the TV when they already get more than enough exercise elsewhere.
[editline]16th October 2010[/editline]
Still, this won't fix the fundamental problem with Kinect.

You may have a point. I just ultimately believe that the games made with the Kinect in mind will be Kinect exclusives - I mean, with the controls being so completely different, there very well may not be a way to design that kind of cross-compatibility between controllers/control methods. But shit. I'm just drunk.

Well, like I didn't even really say before, I think their target audience is going to be those people that have a 360, but aren't into the "hardcore" gaming, y'know? IE people who have FT office positions/etc that live a sedentary lifestyle. I don't even believe it's any real threat to our "real" games, because we are a completely different market.
And don't say casual gaming/the Kinect is going to wipe out hardcore gaming. This same argument has been going on for 10+ years, and nothing has changed so far.
ProTip
You do not have to buy it.
Serious, If you want to sit down, do not buy it and play with the controller...
I don't give a sit
