I'm in possession of an old laptop and I'm well aware that it won't be capable of running any new games. So instead I'm thinking about getting a bunch of cheap older games - like, some I've always thought about playing but never have.
I'm thinking in the line of max payne 1 and 2, hitman 1 and 2, deus ex, unreal 2 and etc. and even older of course. Do you have any ideas? Are there any 'must plays' from that era?
Gotta play Dungeon Keeper 2, man.
Giants: Citizen Kabuto is a must.
Elder Scrolls 3 : Morrowind
If you're looking for an RTS the Blitzkrieg series is nice. If you're looking for an FPS the original Half Life is great.
do you have Unreal Tournament 2004? if not, that's definitely a must-have.
What about Tief 2, tha't pretty awesome
Medal of Honor: Frontline, and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron at the top of my head.
If you're looking for a classic tactical shooter set in neither World War II or the modern era get Operation Flashpoint and its Resistance expansion.
Diablo II and the Starwars DarkForces series.
Red Alert 2
Command and Conquer Generals
Silent Storm.
Thief series.
Diablo II LoD forever and ever
System Shock 2 all the way.

Actually yeah Diablo II is probably my favorite game of all time. Play this.

This
Or if you can find a copy, Fire Warrior.
Dawn of War 1 and winter assault maybe, they run really well on my old computer. Maybe they'll run on your computer, too.
Day of defeat 1.3.
Cod 1 and Medal of Honor : Allied Assault .
Boiling Point: Road to Hell and the sequel(although it's not that old) if you can get a copy; White Gold: War in Paradise.
Evil Genius
Age of Mythology
Psychonauts
Dawn of War 1 and winter assault maybe
And Dark Crusade
I was going to suggest Hitman Blood Money (You can probably run it, and it's the best of the series) and Max Paynes and Splinter Cells, but then I read your post and saw you were already considering them. Good lad.
Doom series, Dungeon Keeper, Half-Life 1, San-Andreas, and Starcraft 1 are all pretty good games.
yeah definitely Dungeon Keeper
Age of Empires II
and
Psychonauts
Play Heroes of Might & Magic 3.
I don't know if you're into turn-based strategy. I'm usually not, but I fucking love HOMM3. Get the expansion packs too, so you can have randomly-generated maps. Then get the fan-made expansion pack, Wake of Gods.
If into RTS check out Homeworld, its a great game
Doom series
Duke Nukem 3D (Always awesome)
Fallout 1-2
Halo Combat Evolved.

Aint that fun on PC because there's no CO-OP option. Custom Edition is fun tho.
