Arma 2: Operation Arrohwead will be released on 29th June exclusively for PC. Quote : Prague, Czech Republic, April 22nd Award-winning independent development studio Bohemia Interactive today confirmed that Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead, the forthcoming standalone expansion pack for Arma 2, best military simulator of 2009, will be available to buy across the globe from June 29th. Developed as a massive standalone expansion pack enlarging Arma 2 to a completely new level, Operation Arrowhead promises to deliver yet more of the highly authentic military simulation gameplay the series is famed for, while shifting the action to an all-new environment and adding key new features to Arma 2’s already vast palette. Set in the fictional region of Takistan and taking place three years after the Arma 2’s campaign, Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead features three new world maps with radical new terrain; sandy deserts, a dense city with surrounding countryside and a rocky mountainous region. Also included in the standalone expansion pack is support for controlling unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to observe, strike and rescue from afar, along with a fully-modelled FLIR thermal imaging simulation with unprecedented realism to give the player advantages while working at night, going as far as to model vehicle engine heat, tyre friction and even glowing weapon barrels after being fired. A new campaign is included, with Bohemia Interactive taking the experience gained from its previous games, combined with real world events and political intrigue, to create a storyline that serves as a chilling reminder to the geo-political situation the world finds itself in on a constant basis. Other new features include a detachable backpack system for carrying more weapons and ammunition, and an overhauled optics system allowing keen marksmen to ‘zero in’ their scopes to account for ballistic fall-off. ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead employs a third-generation engine benefitting from more than a decade of continual development and unique experience in implementing new technologies and procedures. Named the Real Virtuality engine, it is widely recognised as the premier platform for modern military simulations where realism and technical accuracy are crucial. Bohemia Interactive Studio’s Real Virtuality engine is used as a base for real-world training simulators implemented by numerous governments and militaries around the world including the United States Marine Corps, the United Kingdom Minstry of Defence and the Australian Defence Force. ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead features in full: • New Playable Content: New story campaign for both single and multi-player gameplay. Wide range of new tutorials, single scenarios and multiplayer modes. • Massive Game World: Three brand new Central Asia-style large maps including expansive urban, desert and mountainous terrain, featuring a fully destructible and interactive environment. • Extra Units and Vehicles: Multiple factions for all sides including US Army, United Nations, Takistani Army and Guerrillas making a collection of 300+ new units, weapons and vehicles. • Ultimate War Simulation Experience: Fully integrates with the original ARMA 2 for unmatched warfare simulation. • Unique Gameplay Elements: Detachable backpacks with equipment, advanced weapon optics, material penetration modeling, remote real-time simulation of Unmanned Arial Vehicles (UAV), freedom of decision and repercussive actions. -pics- holy shit WMDs quick call bush -Videos- FLIR, with UAV ("Littlebird" UAV) [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQUy15Hfct8[/hd] A teaser with the new units etc [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tiD-vdIl38Q[/hd] game insight thing , devs talk [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fx7w77aNPGg[/hd] village module thing, chesty beat me to it [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gyVO7BZIss&feature=player_embedded[/hd] Arma 2: Operation Arrohwead will be released on 29th June exclusively for PC. Nah, Arma 2 gets boring pretty quick.
Yep, ArmA2 was awesome but unpolished and lacked some stuff that everyone expected in it. This being an expansion (standalone) it should be ArmA2+Polish+more content. So yeah, getting it.
Takistani, damn they're not even trying anymore.
The game looks hugely improved in my opinion. It's still going to be horribly unoptimised I reckon, which is a shame, but the campaign looks much improved and I shall have great fun in the editor regardless. Oh, and this was just announced - looks awesome: It's basically a module that spawns a random village at a location you change. It will be so helpful for mission editing.
Looks awesome. I'm looking forward to the inclusion of Bundeswehr and Czech Army units. In one of the videos they showed the opeation of a working rangefinder in one of the tanks. They need to implement a ballistic computer so I can plink tanks and BMPs just like in Steel Beasts.
In before people start bonering over FLIR.
Yessss! I love Arma 2!
This should be interesting. [editline]06:52PM[/editline] I expect a sudden spike of "black hawk down" missions, when arrowhead comes out.
I expect a sudden spike of "black hawk down" missions, when arrowhead comes out.
There already are a few I think.
There already are a few I think.
A few, which is actually a shit ton. [editline]07:01PM[/editline] I will definetely be buying this though, no matter what the price.
They better put a AC-130 in it. Oh and having the Germans in it is awesome. Also attaching big guns to vehicles with the "AttachTo" command in the editor was good fun. And I can't be the only one that loved making desperate escapes in the editor. You start as farmer with shit guns and have to travel over the whole map to reach safety, and all possible hinders are on the way.
I will definetely be buying this though, no matter what the price.
It's a shame that idiots had this impression with the shitty mainstream games. I'm getting this as well.
That's my birthday! :buddy:
I don't understand the screenshots of this game. Look at the first ones and the visual are incredible, scroll down to the bottom and they look really bad. Were the preview team not playing on the highest settings or something?
pretty much. That, and there is a filter, "Movie Day" which makes the game look pre-rendered sometimes edit: the bottom pictures.. the render resolution isn't set to 100 percent. Set it to 70 or so in game and ArmA 2 will look like those screens... [editline]07:18PM[/editline] more screens from the same site yay M14
more more more I like this better than JCOVE's [editline]09:49PM[/editline] this is the AH-6X UAV.
Yep, ArmA2 was awesome but unpolished and lacked some stuff that everyone expected in it. This being an expansion (standalone) it should be ArmA2+Polish+more content. So yeah, getting it.
In my opinion the lack of polish led to more laughs than anger. Nothing like doing a 2 hour long mission and then having all of us die because our helicopter's tail rotor gets shot out by an infantryman with an AK from several hundred meters away. However that was the game when it launched here in the US, it's a lot better now.
led to shit like this although that's still probably not fixed..
Is this standalone or do I need ARMA II?
standalone.
boo bad game
boo bad game
no  [editline]04:21PM[/editline] I need a new computer.
boo bad game
shut up you didn't even say hi to makol, he is sad now
Looks to me like they improved the shader models.
shut up you didn't even say hi to makol, he is sad now
my day has been ruined :saddowns:
I really am excited about the random village generator. I like CQB combat, but sometimes, it gets old when you know that if you stand in X area, you can kill anyone who moves through Y area. I think that just tipped the balance for OA, in terms of me purchasing ARMA 2 or this. This, to me, is pretty much ARMA 3. What I want to know is if the ACM or ALICE will spawn armed enemy civilians who attempt to locate and then ambush your team.
Hopefully they'll fix the awful performance issues in the original ARMA II.
Hopefully they'll fix the awful performance issues in the original ARMA II.
1680x1050 with everything but AA and postprocessing on high with my 8800GT and I can run quite well. Well, it will never be as optimized as Mass Effect.
hopefully, they'll put all the patches on the steam version :)
