- Obligatory Gary Oak.
First of all I would just like to say that this is a playthrough I intend on finishing to either the end, or game over. The Pokémon games have played a huge part of my childhood, and I've recently discovered that there are rules you can implement, to make it a harder experience. I couldn't turn this down, I had to play it!
The rules I am implementing are (Some are custom, most are Nuzlocke Rules):
• If all of your Pokémon have fained, game over (You have to start again from the beginning).
• Pokémon Centres are allowed.
• If one of your Pokémon faints, he/she dies completely. It's your choice whether or not you choose to release the deceased. I've decided to create a "Graveyard" box, in the PC.
• Never use these items: TMs, EXP all, Town Map, Bicycle, Coin Case, Item Finder, Healing Potions, Vitamins, Buffers (I.e. X-accuracy), Elixers, HP-Ups, PP-Ups, Drinks and the Master Ball.
• No cheating device.
• No running away from battles.
• No saving before legendary encounters.
• You must only catch the first Pokémon that you encounter in each area. No more. If you miss your chance, then you miss out. (No Duplicates: See picture)
• Battle mode set to 'SET'.
• Fight every trainer possible.
• You must give all of your Pokémon nicknames, to increase attachment.

Part 1 - The Beginning

I think the SLIGHT audio delay is due to using the throttle to skip Oak's speech. I won't be doing it in the next part, and everything will be in higher quality. This first video was pretty much a test to see if I can do it. It'll be gone in the next chapter.
Here's the written journal of my adventures (I did this instead of a voiceover). Spoiler tagged:

[sp]First of all, I chose to be a female character because I've never played one before. I also chose the name 'Mia' because that's the name of my sister -I thought it would be cool to imagine that she is undertaking the same journey that I "went on" as a child.
Secondly, picked Bulbasaur (I named him Clarence) because I didn't want my starter dying in the first two gyms, especially so early on. I needed to think strategically.
Gary, of course, picked Charmander. My initial thoughts are that his Charmander is going to grow up to become a huge bitch for me.
The first battle ensues and Clarence kicked Charmander's ass. Victory! I went on my merry way (Having a funny feeling that my adventure hasn't yet begun) to Viridian City. I figured it would be a good idea to collect the potions and sell them for Pokéball money -seeing as I won't be needing them.
I come into contact (My first encounter) with a Rattata, Level 3. I also realise that I have no Pokéballs to catch it, so I vent my frustrations by having Clarence wipe the floor with it.
I arrive in Viridian City and give Clarence his well-deserved heal, before moving to the PokéMart to collect Oak's Parcel - Back to Pallet Town!
If I take a lot of damage on the way back to Pallet, I thought, then it doesn't matter as I can heal at Oak's Hideout.
I arrive and initially look around for a machine to heal. Damn! There is none, it's a good thing Clarence hasn't taken too much damage!
Pokédex time. Thanks Oak! There's a thought, what exactly is Prof' Oak's forename? David Oak? Eric Oak? I think I'll call him Klaus. Klaus Oak.
Return (to Viridian) journey! Clarence is Level 8 at this point, and is brilliantly wiping the floor with any Pokémon we encounter. Except for a moderately-threatening Rattata!
We make it back to Viridian and enjoy a much-needed heal. I'm on my way to sell the 2 potions that I have (For Pokéball funds) when I suddenly remember that there's another potion I can sell! I get it, and sell the three potions at the Mart, and in return buying 5 Pokéballs out of the money.
I need more Pokémon in my team! So I head to Route 22 (I can't catch one on Route 1, as I had no Pokéballs on my first encounter), hoping to get a Mankey, but I'm not sure if I can in this version. I stay close to the edge just incase of emergency. Encounter! It's a Spearow! Shit, It might kill Clarence! It's a dangerous level, too (5). Heated battle ensues... Clarence's HP is reduced to 5, while the Spearow's is just less than half-full.
Now's my only chance! I need to throw the ball now! If I attack once more, Clarence dies. If I throw the ball and it misses, Clarence dies. If Clarence dies, I have to start my adventure all over again and my playthrough ends. You can cut the tension with a knife. Success!!! I catch the extremely-tough Spearow, and Clarence lives! He'll make a fine addition to our team. Now I need to think of a name for him, hmm. Wait a second, he's a she... I wanted to call him Erik... Looks like I'll settle for Erica.
Team as of present:
Clarence (Bulbasaur) - Level 8.
Erica (Spearow) - Level 5.[/sp]

Good news! The sync error is completely fixed (It wasn't the throttle) and the quality is increased!

[sp]This is the second chapter in my Pokémon: Leaf Green Nuzlocke Playthrough! Quick recap: We started our adventure, delivered Oak's Parcel, and caught our first wild Pokémon - Erica! (Spearow). Let's dive quickly into it.
Checking my Pokémon's health, I notice they both need some rest/healing -I take them to the Pokémon Centre. With the upcoming battle cemented into my brain, I switch Erica to the first position. Ready for pre-match training! Level 8 is my target for her, to match Clarence. So, with the Rocky montage in mind I run back to Route 22 -Training begins...
First encounter is a Mankey. Damn! I wasn't sure if I could get one in this version. It would have been great to catch one, but Erica is already growing up to become a great addition to the team! Secondly, they'll be a lot easier to train against. Flying > Fighting.
There isn't much to say at this point, as I'm just grinding levels. I do however notice that I'm fighting a LOT of Mankeys. It's almost as though somebody or something wants us to succeed!
Ding! Level 6, a great start to training so far! I take her to heal at the Pokémon Centre.
Ding! Level 7, one more level to go! I take her to heal at the Pokémon Centre.
Ding! Level 8! We're finally ready. This is it. We all freshen up at the Pokémon Centre, and head proudly back to Route 22.
Suddenly I'm stopped in my tracks by the thought of defeat. The wasted training. The deaths of Erica and Clarence. Hesitantly, I move forward, into Gary.
I have chosen not to reveal the battle in the journal. Instead, you must watch the video. Skip to 10:25 if you're lazy...[/sp]

Now, with the outcome of the previous battle in mind, I leave the decision up to you, Facepunch, what do I do next?
Hi cypher
Pokemon Iron man mode.
Video needs funny/witty commentaries else it's boring to watch.

Somewhat true, but I don't have a microphone. I figured if you have the time you can read my journal either during, before or after. I've tried to write it in the best way I can to make up for the absence of voice.
[editline]28th May 2011[/editline]
Does the video play at different times to the audio for you guys?
Audio seems a bit delayed,
Looking forward to the next bit though.

I think the audio delay is due to using the throttle to skip Oak's speech. I won't be doing it in the next part, and everything will be in higher quality. This first video was pretty much a test to see if I can do it.
It'll probably be gone in the next chapter. Thanks
I will see your endeavor through
fuck i wish i could find my copy of firered D:
Edit: Couldn't find it so i just got a rom, im trying to do a nuzlocke run too now. It's really hard and painstaking at first.
Second one will definitely be up tomorrow
I'm interested in doing a Nuzlocke run. Should I use Emerald or Firered?
Good stuff, looking forward to part 2.
What do you guys think about me posting the journal in YouTube annotations instead of its present format? Would it block the screen/Would it make it more entertaining?
Basically is there anything I can do to make it better? Not including voice.
What do you guys think about me posting the journal in YouTube annotations.
Don't do this, if anything I think it will make it worse.
Don't do this, if anything I think it will make it worse.
Okay, so keep things as they are?
Part 2 is now up! Perfect sync/quality! In the journal I ask for replies to a particular question, I would be grateful if as many as you can could post them here in SPOILER tags.
welp
you [sp]lose[/sp]

[sp]Bit of a major fuck up, no? I realise my mistake, I was naive enough into thinking that Clarence was already adequately trained...so what now? I really enjoy making these movies, especially now I've perfected it. Do I call it a little mishap, and give myself a second chance, or move onto the next Pokémon game? Crystal.[/sp]
start another one bitchtits
start another one bitchtits
[sp]move onto crystal?[/sp]
that was over fast
that was over fast
Yeah it was, I went in underprepared. Just like I predicted, his Charmander is a bitch. :v:
So I have three options:
1) Keep playing
2) Start over
3) Re-do this, but in Pokémon Crystal
What should I do?
I vote start over with LeafGreen.
just start over and archive the first 2 videos at the end of the post to show the absolute failure of the first attempt
and don't fuck up a second time. Well at least not as soon.

Got it. I'll work on it tomorrow (Today, it's 03:25 and I'm too tired)
Cheers guys, I'll think of some way to format/archive this.
I'm going to stop recording/documenting now.
It takes a lot of effort, and it's not really worth it. In game I have to make sure to do the set objectives or viewers will find it boring, I have to rush strategies. Then when I get 'round to sorting out the recorded files, (Which I'm struggling to free up the memory for), I have to open them in another program, fix the syncing, and re-save it which takes about 10 minutes. Then I have to open it with WMM and save it as .wmv (Which takes a fair long time due to compressing), then I have to upload it to youtube and write a massive journal for it. (This is for ~10 minutes of playing)
Don't get me wrong, it's a really fun game to play and I'm loving every minute of this, but I'm not having as much fun as I should be. I mean, earlier I really wanted to play it, but I couldn't be bothered with the recording/editing/compressing/uploading/writing side of it -so I didn't play it.
I figured I will just make a comic out of the most significant "events/encounters" and post them in the Pokémon General thread. Unless you can think of something better?
Sorry guys, hope you'll understand.

Emerald 386 Nuzlocke on hardest rules is hell. Trust me, I've done it before and my god did I hate it. I had the worst rules picked out: 3 Center heals per town, no items allowed etc. I just grinded like fuck and then fought the gym leader, won with dumb luck and critical hits and then quickly ran to center heals.
Either add voice commentary or text commentary.
Seriously, I hated grinding, why would I want t osee someone else grinding?
But strategic pokemon is best pokemon indeed. You should have used leech seed.
I love this so much, please finish it!

If I write your name on my ass and take a picture of it, will you at least continue documenting?

I was going to, that's why I hovered over it a while, but I thought it would repeatedly do a "Not very effective" all the time. I went through the videos a lot today to see if I could've won from that battle, and I could. It goes to show how the 'pressure' of being watched throws you off.
