A thread about the many glorious Business Simulation games, tycoon is in quotations as this is what most people refer to them as (and most have it in the name) but not always. Airline Tycoon
Airline Tycoon is a business simulation game by Thomas Holz and Robert Kleinert, in which the player must successfully manage an airline. The original was developed by Spellbound, and published by Infogrames, however, the succeeding versions were published by a variety of publishers. The original Airline Tycoon was created for Windows, however, the later Deluxe version was also ported to Linux, Mac OS X and ZETA. In this game, like all Tycoon computer games, the objective is to become a tycoon, and in this case, an “Airline Tycoon.” This is achieved through the balance of income and expenditures.
Airline Tycoon is in my top 3 tycoon games hands down. It's got charming graphics and solid gameplay. You compete against 3 other tycoons, either CPU or player controlled. Your goal is to wipe the others out, you accomplish this by buying a majority of their stocks and liquidating them. To do this you have to plan efficient flights, successful routes or hauling cargo. Capitalism 2
Trevor Chan's Capitalism II (simplified Chinese: 金融帝国II; traditional Chinese: 金融帝國II; pinyin: Jīn Róng Dì Guó II) is the business simulation game sequel to the original Capitalism. It was created by Enlight, and published by Ubisoft Entertainment in 2001. The player creates and controls a business empire. This in-depth strategy game covers almost every aspect of business that could be encountered in the real world; including marketing, manufacturing, purchasing, importing, and retailing. It features two new campaigns (Capitalist Campaign and Entrepreneur Campaign), plus an in-depth tutorial. The gameplay is very similar to the original version. One noticeable difference from Capitalism I is that there are fewer products derived from agricultural resources. Capitalism II will run on modern versions of Microsoft Windows whereas the previous versions would not.
Haven't played nearly as much of this as Airline tycoon or RCT2 etc. But it seems like a deep number crunching game, that isn't stuck on a certain business type. You can open a bunch of different stores or factories. Your success depends on various things like your placement, and your access to goods. That's all for now, before someone freaks out about me not including the Rollercoaster Tycoon or Railroad series, I thought i'd bring some lesser-known games to light.
Roller Coaster Tycoon, Zoo Tycoon, SeaWorld Tycoon, Theme Hospital, Restaurant Empire, etc.
Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis.
Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis.
That game is terrible. There's little challenge and after a while you'll find yourself letting the dinos go just so you have something interesting to do.
That game is terrible. There's little challenge and after a while you'll find yourself letting the dinos go just so you have something interesting to do.
Letting the dinosaurs out is fun as fuck though
Railroad Tycoon 3 is one of the best tycoon games created.
The dinosaurs and map editor were boss, I was pumped about it when I was younger, the execution is just bad though. There just wasn't much to the whole tycoon part of it.
Lemonade tycoon is awesome.I used to play it back when I didn't have internet all the time.
Toilet Tycoon was boss.
Dinosaur Tycoon. Stay in the damn electric fence. Stop eating the people. Rex got out again. Argh, damn it :argh:
Zoo Tycoon is best tycoon! (well actually I enjoyed RCT3 more) But holy shit, the nostalgia!
Theme hospital and rollercoaster tycoon!
Holy shit nostalgia on Airline Tycoon!
God damn where is Cinema Tycoon, I used to play that game obsessively..
Theme Park, RCT 1 - 3, Theme Hospital, Chris Sawyer's Locomotion, Transport Giant, Sim City 4, Cities in Motion and the much hated Sid Meier's Railroads are my favorites. I remember playing Constructor, Sim City 2000 and Railroad Tycoon 2 as a kid (on consoles, urgh!), I didn't know what to do. I'm glad those games are not forgotten in the age where every second game is an FPS.
Sid Meier's Railroads are my favorites
Playing that after Railroad tycoon 3 was like having virtual disappointment happen right in front of me.
I love tycoon games, but the fact that there are so few good ones is sad. They also have some shitty cartoons and totally boring gameplay mechanics. Rollercoaster will always be the king of the tycoon games.
All the best tycoon games were made in the 90s, imo.
They should make a plantation tycoon. Turn your family farm into a huge plantation!
They should make a plantation tycoon. Turn your family farm into a huge plantation!
Hire your very own illegal immigrants! You can even abuse them using state-of-the-art movement sensor technology!
A tycoon about building space colonies and managing the colonization of planets would be pretty cool. If executed rightly without a shitty cartoony style.
A tycoon about building space colonies and managing the colonization of planets would be pretty cool. If executed rightly without a shitty cartoony style.
Like Shores of Hazeron without the lag and nightmare fuel?
Well, I don't know about that game but I love putting buildings on planets.
Aw man, Zoo Tycoon and the Dinosaur expansion pack? Glorious days were had with it...
Hire your very own illegal immigrants! You can even abuse them using state-of-the-art movement sensor technology!
What? Illegal immigrants. I'm talking set in 1850s. Buy and sell slaves in a realistic and dynamic slave auction! [editline]31st May 2011[/editline]
Like Shores of Hazeron without the lag and nightmare fuel?
Theres no lag in SoH but plenty of nightmare fuel.
capitalism 2 isnt a fucking tycoon game, the shit is a corporation simulator, i could never get the hang of it it was always too frustrating to do ANYTHING
Does SimTower count as a tycoon game? Loved that game, pity it doesn't work on Windows 7 x64 and DOSBox doesn't work.
Well, I don't know about that game but I love putting buildings on planets.
I think Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri is as close as you can get. Does that count?
Man, I remember playing Yoot Tower (simtower 2) forever as kid. some of those movie clips used to scare me shitless as a kid.:allears:
They should make a plantation tycoon. Turn your family farm into a huge plantation!
With an animated singing Paul Robeson to liven the spirits of the workers.
