Would using a VPN to install games preloaded on your steam but not released in your country be legal?
Do it anyways.
I would not want to if it put my account at risk
Your account won't get disabled, how do Valve know you aren't just in the USA?
Maybe, I thought steam releases it when America gets it.
Nope, I'm waiting for Fallout New Vegas, which released in the USA the other day (yesterday?)
We have to wait until Friday D:
Oh and if you did use a vpn to unlock the files then I really doubt anyone would notice. It wouldn't be illegal really, my friend got his copy of NV early for 360. :saddowns:
i was thinking about it because i did pay for it. It would be just like pre-ordering from usa.
Yeah, it's stupid when we have to wait several days longer than the USA on Steam, it's not like the copies are held anywhere.
I would be ok with it if we got new things out of it.
My friend did exactly this to unlock Vegas.
It worked. He's playing ATM as a matter of fact. I'm still waiting on the Oct 22 release.
WHY am I still waiting for this?
I used a VPN to unlock Metro 2033 before it was out in the UK, and I just went offline as soon as it launched and have had no problems with my account.

It's not legal and VALVe will take you to court.
What VPN service should I use? All the ones I've tried won't connect to the US store.. =S
I use my own vpn on a vps and I use it to buy steam and all other games that think 1eur=1$.
Haven't been banned so far.

Why would you get banned, it's not illegal or against the TOS.

Well I'm getting games cheaper than they are supposed to be for me, so... I don't know.

It's still not illegal lol, you could just as easily get a friend to gift you them with money you sent over paypal.

But if they're in USA and I am in the UK?
He was just playing with you, simmer down.

So?
The guy who leaked the Half-Life 2 Source code in 2003 was in Germany and got tracked by the FBI. He was than arrested and put on trial by the German government in November 2006.
