For Christmas it has been decided that I will get a 4gb Xbox 360 and one of the games I want to get for it is fallout 3.
Now I have come to a problem: does the game of the year edition, which has all the DLC bundled with it, still require you to install said DLC to the hard drive?
Because the console I will be getting will be the 4gb version I will not be able to put the DLC on a hard drive, because there isn't one.
So pretty much, I am asking if the DLC on the GOTY version is played from the game disk or installed on the hard drive.
You do not need to install anything to the hard drive unless you want to lower load times. That being said if you need more space get a cheap flash drive.
You will be fine.

What, so the DLC does not need a hard drive?
Thanks for clearing that up!

Well, it appears you are wrong.
I finally found a site that states whether the DLC needs to be installed and it said it does.
Why not get New Vegas?
Also, to be 4gb, doesn't it have to have some sort of hard drive?
You can get an Xbox with only 4GB space?
the shit

First, because I want to play fallout 3 first and secondly the 4gig is flash memory and not counted as a hard drive, so you can't install stuff on it.
I can confirm that the DLC does require a hard drive.
How about you get $200 instead and save up $100? Arcade models are just for people who watch DVDs and mean "I'm saving money but will eventually spend the full price anyway!"

Okay, I think I will sill get the GOTY version though because you can still play the non dlc part normally and it is cheaper than the standard version of the game, which is retarded.

My parents cant really afford any thing much more so I wold rather just get the cheaper one and a few games than one with a HDD and only one game.
Do you have an external hard drive or a thumb drive? You can install onto those things from your Xbox.

What, and install DLC on it?
I'm pretty sure. As long as it's large enough.
A software dev from Microsoft has written that a system update this spring will allow the use of USB storage (thumb drives or external USB drives) for game saves, DLC, XBLA games and even retail disk game installs.
Finally! No need to buy the exorbitantly priced 120GB drive for just a few extra GB. Most of us have a thumbdrive or seven laying around, and we should soon be able to use these for disk space - proof that there is a God.
The USB drive will need to be at least 1GB in size, and the 360 will install a system partition which takes about half a gig. Then you'll have up to 16 GB available for storage. There's the catch - you can only use up to 16GB, per drive, and only 2 drives max connected at one time.
Still, this is hugely welcome on my box.

Yes. As long as it's large enough.
Well that has just solved my problem, thanks.
If hard drive space is worrying you then why not make your own?

Neither was I, all you pretty much do is follow instructions.
Whats already out?
The update that added support for third party drives, I assume.

Don't you have to buy these in order save games?

They always have, you just have to partition it right on installation of drive.

No that's just a way for microsoft to make $ off idiots for buying a sub par space drive for 8 times the cost.
goty edition comes with the dlc on the disk, you don't need a hard drive
Just get vegas...
Just get vegas...
Fallout 3 and New Vegas are completely different games, both equally good in my opinion.

Pretty much, though it is slightly more useful then the memory cards were. But no you don't have to
Downloading the DLC, probably. But if you have the GOTY disk all that installing will do is lower load times.

But according to a article on the game you have to install the DLC content to play it. You cannot play it off the disk.

I will, after I have completed fallout 3.
I have a USB stick with 4 time the space of that Xbox.
