We fought our ways through hell and back. Now all that separates us are a window and a door that won't stay open. This is right after the part where Alyx helps out with the sniper rifle.
noclip
Nope. You can't return to the room.
You had to improvise at that part. I build a little contraption with that gravity gun that tipped the gnome out the door when it opened. Restart that part and do this: Get a box and put it beside that door. Then find a chair and put it on top of the box. Put the chair on top so that it's slighty leaning backwards into the door. If you get it right, put the gnome on the chair and be on your way. When you open the door, the chair will tip backwards off the box and bring the gnome with it. Sort of like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkIrAC25b-0&feature=related
You know, at the part where you see Gman on the bridge and Alyx uses the camera to focus on the car, you can just launch the gnome with the gravity gun to the road where the gman is. It will be there when you get the car, it's what I did.

I think I just carried him all the way through. yeah...
Gah, this was the must frustrating achievement ever. The parts where you had to wedge in the car were annoying, especially when you were being chased by the chopper.
Good news everyone. Me and Gnome are reunited again. I didn't want to redo that whole area though because my last save was all the way back when Alyx was dead and I still had to retrieve the antlion extract. But I made it.

Autosaves only stay current through the last 2 checkpoints. Else it's up to manual saves earlier on.
I dunno, been a while since I got the little rocket man achievement.
I loved this achievement, took me more hours to complete than the original game. That's what achievements should be, not HURR COMPLETE CAMPAIGN ON EASY +10000
I just shot the gnome onto the bridge or something at that part. I should probably finish Ep2, I put him in the rocket but haven't launched him.
Helicopter part WILL be annoying man, I know it. Toss -> get in car -> BRUMM! -> out from car -> toss and rinse and repeat. Unless you manage to keep it in the jeep.
GAH! that happened to me. Used the chair to hold door open and sucked him back to me. But took a fuck ton off effort to get the chair to fall so it would hold the door. First time I got him out the chair flung out and killed me :saddowns:
Would be good if you had a spoiler warning somewhere, I only have Half-life 2 so far.
I don't remember having this problem...I hope I didn't carry it through the puzzle D: You could probably toss it over before you leave the top, too.
Would be good if you had a spoiler warning somewhere, I only have Half-life 2 so far.
The game has been out for 3 years and you've not played it? unfortunately: this fits - Son, I am dissapoint.
Setting up a contraption feels seems a bit much, I remember just placing him so he's right in front of the point the railing sort of breaks, and pulling him while jumping. I thought that's why it's broken in the first place.
Helicopter part WILL be annoying man, I know it. Toss -> get in car -> BRUMM! -> out from car -> toss and rinse and repeat. Unless you manage to keep it in the jeep.
I really fucking raged at this part. But then I discovered solution so simple it was just awkward. Leave gnome somewhere on this map, and then just drive until next map loads. Then go back, and here you go - heli-less map, you can glitch your gnome to your jeep and on the way again
Little rocket man is a sonofabitch. I brought him all the way through there. Through zombies and combines. Through toxic sludge and headhumpers. He fell out of the car in the long straight helicopter/traintracks part and I had to crouch behind trains with 1 health all the way there and back. I brought him all the way through the race with dog. FINALLY, I made it to the rocket. I put him in. ...And forgot to close the door. I went through the strider battle because I thought I would get the achievement when the rocket launched. Rocket launched, no achievement. And my last save was either during the strider battle or all the way back at the vortigaunt caves. Rather than redo all that, I named a chair "gnome," stuck it in, closed the door, and got the achievement. Hey, I did the work, right?

Unfortunate for you :C
wait what how do you name props?
Center your crosshairs over the prop on question, then type into console: ent_fire setname name Replacing "name" with whatever you want to name it, obviously.
wait what how do you name props?
sv_cheats 1;ent_fire !picker setname namehere;sv_cheats 0 :) [editline]21st October 2010[/editline]
Center your crosshairs over the prop on question, then type into console: ent_fire setname name Replacing "name" with whatever you want to name it, obviously.
Needs cheats, so do it how I did it so you don't disable achievements :)
Center your crosshairs over the prop on question, then type into console: ent_fire setname name Replacing "name" with whatever you want to name it, obviously.
Actually it's just ent_setname
Needs cheats, so do it how I did it so you don't disable achievements :)
Cheats don't disable achievements.
Actually AFAIK they do, but there's a trick you can do to bypass it - you can sv_cheats 1, then sv_cheats 0, then save the game, exit out, go back into the save and then continue.
Actually it's just ent_setname Cheats don't disable achievements.
Um, yes they do, the only way to do it is to use
sv_cheats 1;your_cheat_here;sv_cheats 0
or the method above. Ent_setname also requires sv_cheats.
