Let the Nostalgia begin... I honestly can't say very much about it because I never really played much of it. I bought it after I had already played AoE2. This game will forever hold a special place in my heart. It is the best game I've ever played, and one I would go back and play no matter how old it gets. It simply never gets boring. It's a perfect blend of base building, economic management, and military engagements. 15 Civilizations(including the Conquerors expansion), each with their own unique techs and units. This game pioneered things seen in RTS's today such as unit garrisoning, rally points, and the ubiquitous idle villager button. Good times out-ranging castles with British longbowmen fully upgraded all the way. The civilizations are: Britons Byzantines Celts Chinese Franks Goths Japanese Mongols Persians Saracens Teutons Turks Vikings Aztecs Huns Koreans Mayans Spanish Another great entry from Ensemble. The God powers and myth units are awesome and rooted in actual mythologies. Unlike Aoe2, there's only 4 factions(Greeks, Egyptians, Norse, and Atlanteans including the expansion), but each one has 3 tech trees(gods) you can choose, each with it's own strengths and weaknesses. For instance, Zues let's me cast lightning bolt, a power which can insta kill any unit, he also has techs that improve infantry. Poseidon on the other hand can recruit cyclops' and has cavalry improvements, etc. There's also ridiculous end-game Titans that can be made, which are awesome. While I don't like it as much as AOE2, it is still very fun in its own right. It's alot different from AoE2 in that it's more fast paced, focuses more on ranged combat, and discourages turtling. The graphics and physics are also fucking awesome. British French Dutch Germans Russians Ottomans Portuguese Spanish Iroquois Sioux Aztecs Indians Chinese Japanese I'm rating myself a heart because Microsoft shut down Ensemble studios, and because I love this franchise. Hopefully AoE:Online isn't a lets-kill-this-series-by-making-it-a-cash-shop-fest-farmville
My favorite RTS game series ever released. Killed countless hours during high school.
AoE:Online disappointed me so much that I went out and bought AoE1 and Aoe2 again just to feel happy about something. I'm still waiting on a real AoE4 and I doubt that's coming.
Awesome.
Age of empires 1 is the one that is forever to be with me. Played it every day when I was little and loved the feeling of having a small settlement slowly growing. Was amazing  It's hard to find that spark in gaming nowadays. Was probably just because I was young though, not sure.
One of the best game I ever played! So many hours of my life devoted to AoE2 have to install it again.
I really don't like AOE3. You say it's fast paced, even on fast it feels unbelievably slow paced. I can take a nap by the time my units finish killing another army.
Nothing quite like the feeling when you pike rush some baddies.

Best RTS series ever developed, hands down. When I was 8 years old or so I asked only for AoE2: Gold Edition for Christmas Best week after Christmas ever

I remember the awesome cheat codes. Like the cobra car and the monster truck.
Ha, when i was younger i thought the starting villagers we're the only units you could use. Sadly, i took out my brother with like 15 of them :v:
Woololooo!
I am struck with the urge to kill my friends.
That titan from the AoM screenshot, is it photoshopped, a mod or just a part of the campaign I haven't played yet?
Its from the editor. Actualy its not a unit just a bunch of giant roots put together and some lava to look like eyes.A big part of my time playng the game went into editing stuff like that.
I might do a reinstall of AoE3.
You played AoE:Online? It's a baddie you say?
I have friends who have played it and talked about it to me and from what I've seen. It's quite disappointing and gimmicky.

I loved building giant Roman city's and then destroying it with a giant army in first game and building castles sieges in the second game. Ah the memories :unsmith:

Truth be told, I only played the first two games because I never liked how the new games looked, for some reason. I just love the old AOE engine.
