Wikipedia summary stuff:
The Sims 3 is a strategic life simulation video game, and is the successor of The Sims 2, both in The Sims series, created by Maxis. The game was released for Windows and Mac OS X in June 2009. The Sims 3 was released to home consoles on October 26, 2010, for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo DS. It will be released for the Wii platform on November 15, 2010.[8][9][10] There is also a Nintendo 3DS version under development, which will be in 3D (although the console itself has not been released yet).[11] It has also been released for mobile phones, such as those running the iOS, Windows Phone 7, webOS, Android, and Nokia N-Gage platforms. The Sims 3 proved to be an instant success, selling 1.4 million copies in its first week and dominating the sales charts over a month later.[12] Critics issued mostly positive reviews. The Sims 3 gained an 86% score from aggregator Metacritic.[13]
While the Sims 3 for PC was fantastic, advanced, and fun, a console port was announced. If you've ever played any of the Sims games for the gamecube or original Xbox, you'd know that the console ports were amazing. Direct control over your sim was a major feature, but the best and most prevalent feature was the co-op splitscreen mode, where you could play with a buddy. With the announce of the new Sims 3 for the console, I got particularly excited. I had fun fooling around on the PC version, but another co-op sims game was long overdue. Me and my brother used to spend hours playing co-op at home, back in the day. I was really excited to relive those memories. BUT, alas, the Sims 3 for the console is a gigantic slap in the face. It completely ignores all those previous development directions and is nearly a carbon-copy of the PC version. Just look at the "features" list:
Xbox 360/PS3 features Connect through Xbox Live and PSN to share your creations and download content from other players around the world. Connect with Facebook Connect and Twitter and share your achievements with your friends. The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game will not have direct controls, but will instead use tradition controls as seen in The Sims 3 PC. It is thought that features from The Sims 3: Late Night, such as CAS breast and muscle sliders will be included.[13] The city in 360/PS3 will have short loading times when moving between areas, unlike the PC version.[14]
That boldened bit is my favorite. That isn't a fucking feature, that's the blatant LACK of a feature. Actually, the only "feature" that this game has over the PC is some useless networking garbage for facebook, and the ability to "share your creations". Actually, that part is a bit insulting. In a game that's about crafting your own life, they give you the option to download someone else's shit. So where the hell did co-op go? That couldn't have been an oversight, it's what made the console versions worth buying, it was an inherent part of the port. What the fuck Maxis? I actually rented this before purchasing, because I expected me and my girlfriend would be able to do splitscreen, but co-op is totally fucking absent. I've never been more disappointed in a game before. I've been completely deterred from buying this game.
Nintendo DS sims 3? Fuck yes!
Are you joking? No Co-Op? Fuck it. That was the only damn reason to buy a console version. Disappointing. But not suprising.

What's Direct control? I remember playing The sims on my gamecube.
What's Direct control? I remember playing The sims on my gamecube.
I think it's like moving the left stick and moving your character, like in a third person game.
I'd love coop in sims games. On pc though.
I think it's like moving the left stick and moving your character, like in a third person game.
That Sims stranded on the PSP has direct control.
That Sims stranded on the PSP has direct control.
Yeah I had the one for the Wii with direct control. And if I remember correctly, The Sims for the original Xbox had direct control.
Ha ha, no co-op? No buy.
I hope EA/Maxis gets the message and either adds co-op via DLC or adds co-op/direct control to Sims 4.
"is some useless networking garbage for facebook" Aww someone doesn't have enough friends for facebook
I have 177, but really, who gives a fuck about what I do in The Sims? It's useless.
Where did all the good coop games go :saddowns:
Direct control + coop made the sims FUN for me. I can't even play the non-xbox version.
I have 177, but really, who gives a fuck about what I do in The Sims? It's useless.
Whoa.
177 oh no what will my 500+ friends list do oh noo
Does anyone think that someone will add the Karma thing into the PC version(mod). No direct control sucks as well. [sp]If they do decide to change the controls again, I bet the person who posts that news will say ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL.[/sp]
[sp]If they do decide to change the controls again, I bet the person who posts that news will say ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL.[/sp]
Someone should mod it so that when you go into direct control it plays that sound.
I hope EA/Maxis gets the message and either adds co-op via DLC or adds co-op/direct control to Sims 4.
Yay. Now we can pay 60 bucks TO PLAY A FEATURE THAT SHOULD'VE BEEN IN THE BASE GAME! :fuckyou:
No co-op? Well, I'm not getting this game, now.
Game will probably sell millions anyway.
In my opinion the sims have always been and will always be a PC license.
I thought the console versions were terrible, the only one that was alright was Bustin' Out, but that didn't really seem like the Sims
Sims is just one of those games that doesn't work on consoles.
177 oh no what will my 500+ friends list do oh noo
And how many of them have you actually met? :smug:
Damn no Co-Op? Sims Bustin Out on PS2 was the most fun I've ever had with a friend on a game.
I think it's a good idea that The Sims doesn't have online, if it did it'd be running on EA's servers, and their servers are shit.
I played it for laughs today - it did actually make me laugh how shit it was. Now, if only I could remove it from my game history :|
