Surroundings in Singularity are extremely dark

So, I've just picked up Singularity in the Steam summer sale, and started it up, only to find that everything around me is extremely dark. Does anyone know how to fix this, or at least what's causing it?

Intel Core i7 2600K @ 3.40GHz
8 GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 5700
