First there was http://www.nextfrictionalgame.com/, with some kind of progress bar. It reached the 100% mark and the site gone down. It got back later, as: http://somasystems.org/ It looks like a Horror Sci-Fi game, probably first-person, highly inspired by the SCP Fundation wiki. If you're unfamiliar with the SCP wiki, start reading up and git spook'd: It's been developed by Frictional Game and was foreseen on a 2012 blogpost:
At Frictional Games our main concern is our new super secret project. We do not want to say much about this project yet,but we can disclose that it will be horror and that it will be first person. One of the things I was most disappointed with in Amnesia was that it never really managed to deliver any deeper themes, but was more like a shallow fright-fest. For the new project we want to change that and really try and bring a certain theme to the front. Our hope is that this will create a very special experience, creating horror in a much more disturbing way. For the curious, some information on the path we are taking can be found in this paper. The game's current status is that we have pretty much all tech working, and have started to playtest the first parts. Still, a lot is up in the air and the current design is bound to change. While we do not want the project to go on forever, we want to use our good financial situation the best we can and make sure we do not just rush something out (which we did with Amnesia actually). Release will probably be some time in 2014
Speculation: http://i.imgur.com/edLWueP.jpg
the Vivarium recreates what it sees, then let his creation get out of the Vivarium qt Red Head freaks out when realizes it It's an AI in a box that boxed her. This game could be VERY good... by which I mean VERY bad. Important. 'Vivarium' = makes and contains life, simulated consciousness. She freaked out and yelled for it to be contained because it was racing through systems and grabbing up everyone.
Hopefully it won't be a leljumpscaresxD game like every other SCP based or inspired game that's been made.
Hopefully it won't be a leljumpscaresxD game like every other SCP based or inspired game that's been made.
By the look of the teaser, jumpscares will not be there (at least not forced, like Amnesia titles), instead they'll go more further on the atmosphere. That is what the old blogpost says. Now if they really will do as they said, one can only hope.
Jumpscares can be great if you know how to use them. See: F.E.A.R. Doom 3 Parts of S.T.A.L.K.E.R Part of using them is knowing when NOT to do a jump scare, FEAR does it really well, they get you with jump scares until you only just reach the point where you think you know where the next ones gonna come from, and then just to fuck with you the next one never fucking happens. That said jump scares alone aren't good, those games all use some extra elements to keep it from being too repetitive (except doom lel)
STALKER doesn't really have jump scares though. At least they aren't scripted jump scares
Another horror scifi? For the love of god, don't become Dead Space 2-3 and just be a jumpscare-fest type of game I really want a good scifi horror
Another horror scifi? For the love of god, don't become Dead Space 2-3 and just be a jumpscare-fest type of game I really want a good scifi horror
you say that like Dead Space 1 wasn't the same way
STALKER doesn't really have jump scares though. At least they aren't scripted jump scares
The first Controller in Agroprom underground could be considered one. Fucking shat me up
Another horror scifi? For the love of god, don't become Dead Space 2-3 and just be a jumpscare-fest type of game I really want a good scifi horror
It's frictional, should be good.
I really want an SCP game where you're one of the managers or something. Like a mix between Prison Architect and... I dunno, fucking Zoo Tycoon or something. Firing scientists, bringing in more of the grunt guys that always die, experimenting with the SCPs, containing breaches when needed, stuff like that.
A Frictional horror game that's heavily inspired by the SCP Foundation and likely takes place underwater? Sign me the fuck up.
A Frictional horror game that's heavily inspired by the SCP Foundation and likely takes place underwater? Sign me the fuck up.
Pretty sure it's in space bro.
Pretty sure it's in space bro.
actually i believe the leaked concept documents more or less confirmed it's set underwater
So this dude noticed something: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1311130&p=42374233&viewfull=1#post42374233 I took a better screenshot of the third time it flashes and here it is: [t]https://googledrive.com/host/0B0xR4GMZUqoJNU5YdFRCUkY5bGM/Text%20on%20Table.jpg[/t] [editline]2nd October 2013[/editline] Higher contrast: Looks like "T2GII IIPI" but I'm really unsure. [editline]2nd October 2013[/editline] I have no idea, really, tried to access the somasystem url with it, googled, found nothing :v: Maybe it's the machine's name or something?
Maybe there are some Cyrillic letters in it?

I think the first "T" could be a 0 though, since you can see a bit of red across to the left.
That was freaky
I love that suspenseful build up.
Wish someone made a game about SCP-093 (the Red Disc)
I hope they can throw in some randomness. The problem with horror games is that once you play through them, you already know where the scares are. I think that's what made the Ishimura section of DS2 so scary, you've already been there and it's all the same but it's different
99%, new entry incoming
I load this shit up to check the progress for shits and gigs for the first time since the site went up and it's at 99%. You are a cruel god frictionalgames.
http://somasystems.org/#4017 [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eytOzwyfiCA[/hd]
Nice acting. It seems it really is the SCP foundation on a rusted hulk.
Yeah; SCP is awesome, and I hope this setting is accompanied by good gameplay.
It seems the machine from before is indeed T260, since the new text comes along with this:
Quarantined in T260 Machine Rep CORRUPT DATA during the night it had taken itself apart. AM Engineer Imogen Reed quickly records an interview in case the Mockingbird would continue its self-destruction. CORRUPT DATA appears there is a real Adam Golaski working at Omicron. Invited Chief Engineer Golaski to talk to the impostor construct.
sorry but how is having robots and scientists fucking scp inspired?
sorry but how is having robots and scientists fucking scp inspired?
there really isn't any connection other than they're conducting experiments with them and that they designate them with different numbers
sorry but how is having robots and scientists fucking scp inspired?
Basically they test on things that might be dangerous to humanity and might be sentient, and contain them if they are dangerous. So yes, this is like the SCP foundation to an extent.
