It's summer, Steam is having a great sale again and the servers are so slow, I don't get much results when searching for games in categories. I could access the games directly through the search but that way you won't stumble upon great games you never heard much of. The media often talks about AAA-titles and successful indie-games but what about all the games that didn't get much recognition through expensive publicity when Steam wasn't as famous as today? This thread is exactly for those games! Get your tinfoil hats ready, because you represent an evil genius hidden in an underground base on an island, manupilating the whole world with your henchmen. You build a base, you hire [del]slaves[/del] workers, you train them, you send them out into the world to accomplish missions and steal cash and valuable items. Of course you won't stay unnoticed when you shrink the Eiffel Tower and transport it to your island to decorate your base with it! That's why you have to deal with special agents and less special agents which you can either distract with a hotel on your island or they'll run straight into your evil traps before they wake up in a prison cell waiting to get tortured or end up as fried meat in a bodybag hanging inside your cooling chamber. Not free of bugs and the modding ability is limited but it's one of the best games I've ever played! Ok, you might have heard about this one, but I'd like to put it here anyway since I didn't know what to expect from that game. It's an action RPG with a hero (and his brilliant voice) you instantly have to love forever. The story and dialoges are very entertaining. The gameplay is good but nothing revolutionary. It's exactly what you would expect from an action RPG. The style however makes it very special. The first game plays in a cliché-fantasy world, the second one comes with guns instead of melee weapons. Eufloria not only manages to be artistic without a rainbow gradient overlay, it's also a lot of fun! You start on a planet, plant your saplings, they become trees, they will produce more saplings which are also you're units in the fight against enemy saplings. This sounds like Galcon Fusion and that's exactly what it is. Only difference is it is very slow-paced and offers more complexity. Every sapling has three different stats (armor, strength and speed) which vary depending on the planet they grew on. There will also be trees for defense and special upgrade plants later. It can be modded via LUA and it's fanbase is not as small as you would expect it. It's only problem is it can be very hard. These games comes from Eidos and they probably got some PR but before I got them one and a half years ago in the Square-Enix/Eidos package and I've never heard of them before. I thought it was some kind of WWII flight simulator. But I was wrong! It was neither a simulator nor is it only about planes. It's an arcarde game and you take control of planes, ships and submarines. Not only one at a time but all at once. If you don't want to control them directly, open the strategical map and give your units orders like in an RTS. New units can usually be spawned at aircraft carriers, docks and airports. The uncompleted Penny Arcade Adventures are a pseudo-RPG with Final Fantasy like combat in which you have to press buttons at the right time to deal the most damage or block an attack. You won't find such games on the PC often. It's hard to describe this game. You're a robot, you use your arms to hold physic objects and you shoot other robots with your ... uhm ... guns ... yeah! I don't know much to say about this game other than give the demo a try! It's kind of different. The match-3-concept is worn out ... until you make it the base of an RPG game. You match colorful stones to gain Mana, then you use your abilities or match skulls to defeat the enemy. As simple as it sounds, it's that addicting! In the first game you run over a world map, in the second through dungeons. I prefer the first one. I say give it a try! This looks really cheesy and in fact it is. But it's also an Anno/Dawn of Discovery-clone in a wild west scenario. You gather resources, people come to your town, you give them a job and you hunt evil animals and bandits. A simple top-down shooter for your casual needs. In the first game you're only a stationary turret, in the second you can walk, in the third you can also use vehicles. 200 levels for a small price. Your turn! Post some good games you didn't hear much of before. Nothing mainst(r)eam!
I've heard a lotta good things about Evil Genius. Might pick it up.
I got battlestations pacific on Direct2drive. I should download it sometime and try it
Puzzle Quest looks fun, but I'm not sure on how grabbing it is. Not to mention Evil Genius, which I've heard so much about. Gah, why can't I have them all? :frown:
Evil Genius is fantastic. I picked it up during the Christmas sale and poured quite a bit of time into it.
Eufloria is one of my all time favorite games. I dont really know why but i just love it, its so quiet and peacefull
Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines deserves a place on this list. http://store.steampowered.com/app/2600/?snr=1_4_4__13
I loved the battlestations series, but my disc broke. is it on sale? I must have it!
X-Com series is totally worth the money, one of the greatest games of all the time. Star Ruler is also pretty great but really hard to get into. But once you managed everything the game is addicting.
Wow, I didn't know that the Penny Arcade game was so dirt cheap. Buying it right now! 1,8€ is basically the price of a bus ticket here.
People havn't heard of evil genius? Surely you jest?
Evil Genius was so fucking cool
How is Evil Genius and Death Spank hipster?
How is Evil Genius and Death Spank hipster?
How can you not possibly get a joke? Don't be so uptight, hipster.
How is Evil Genius and Death Spank hipster?
The thread is hipster "Probably never heard of"
How's the X series (the space simulator)? It looks pretty interesting to me, but I want to know if it works on 64bit Vista. Also which one (or which pack) shoud I get?

I found it dull, and I racked up 700 hours in EVE online. Once you finish the plot, you need too much time to get any further.
I consider this a hidden gem: http://store.steampowered.com/app/7800/ I don't know anyone else who has played it so I might be wrong.
I consider hammerfifht a hidden gem Great control scheme too

I would play video games but it seems way too mainstream.
AI: War. Very underrated 4X RTS game, and if you're into these sort of games it can entertain you for a very very very long time because of the variation.
Good old stubbs why aren't there other games where you can be a zombie?
Couse Zombies make video games and don't want people to know that so they make games where you KILL zombies. On the side note, I'd love new Stubbs game, the pissing part and "motivational speech" were great .

I've always been curious about it.
Deathspank is just too awesome. If someone hasn't played it, do it now.
Get your hands on Hammerfight. Great fun. trine too.
I wouldn't exactly call it "hidden", but Killing Floor is one of the absolute freaking gems of Steam. It's a must own for just about any shooter fans. Also, Amnesia the Dark Descent I cannot stress this enough. If you are at all, a fan of Survival Horror, stealth, or just like to get scared, then Amnesia the Dark Descent is fucking perfect. It's the scariest game I've ever played, with an incredible atmosphere, a plot that kept me hooked and guessing, and incredibly tense gameplay.

Deathspank is hilarious and awesome. I recommend it to everybody!
Couse Zombies make video games and don't want people to know that so they make games where you KILL zombies.
Sorry what?
Penny Arcade Adventures is fantastic. It's such a shame they cancelled it.
