[release]
What is EarthBound?
EarthBound, MOTHER2 in Japan, is a RPG developed by Nintendo for the SNES. Despite having poor sales, the game quickly became a cult-classic and is famous for its portrayals of the American culture. The game stars the young boy Ness, gifted with psychic powers, and his journey to save the world from an evil alien known as Giygas.[/release]
[release]
The Cast
EarthBound stars a cast of 4 young protagonists. Ness, a prepubescent from Onett. Paula, a young girl from Twoson. Jeff, a genius from Winters. Last but not least, martial arts enthusiast Poo from Dalaam. During your adventure, you will meet a cast of memorable citizens, enemies, and skateboarding hippies.[/release]
[release]
Music
The music of MOTHER is fucking beautiful. Don't believe me?

Listening to that song alone should convince you to get this game's soundtrack.[/release]
(If this thread becomes popular I'll add some stuff on MOTHER 3 and MOTHER 1, too.)
So that's where Ness in Super Smash Bros came from... Mystery solved!
I was scared of Threed when I first played Earthbound.
Moonside however, was kinda trippy.
I've never had such a nostalgia wave as I did when I remembered this a couple years ago.
I would murder for an updated release of the 3 MOTHER games on the 3DS.
If you haven't played this game what the fuck are you doing play it now now NOW.

Have fun sleeping after defeating the final boss.
My favorite RPG of all time, I can't praise it enough, whoever loves RPGs and hasn't played this should definitely get it.
Max of S2D incoming in 3, 2, 1...
I'm just waiting for this game to be on virtual console.
i was planning to buy this game for the Snes even though it costs alot
i don't want to play it through a emulator
One of the best games ever made, I personally think it's really good but wasn't a huge fan of the fighting system. That didn't stop me from enjoying the game and finishing it though :P. It was also very challenging!
I tried playing this and the gameplay is boring for me. But the story itself is great.
Someone told me to play this game, but I was like, "Yeah, after I play some S.T.A.L.K.E.R.."
Then the person started playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. too. I'll get to this game eventually.
twoson was awesome

No, play this game. To hell with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Play this gaaaame.
This game is the SHIT. I still have it for VC.
This game is the greatest RPG I've played in a long time.

Tried it on an emulator after I remembered playing it as a kid. Felt filthy and stopped. I must beat it as intended.
Onett is one of my favorite opening levels of any game.
I kinda liked Mother 3 more, it had a lot more character development, in my opinion.
The bosses in Earthbound were awesome, though. Especially that officer in Onett.
It had soul destroying DRM if you pirated it, once you beat the final boss it would "freeze" and when you restarted the game all your saves would be deleted
best game ever
saw it at a pawn shop for $99.95.
best game ever
This.
I wish I still had my snes.
Never played EarthBound myself, but I did play Mother 3 back in the day. It was a pretty good game, but I kind of regret never playing EarthBound and the first Mother game first.

So it's completely impossible to completely finish the game playing it on an emulator?
That is heartbreaking.

You can play it on an emulator. It emulates it like it's an actually SNES so there would not be problems with the DRM in the first place. There is a code you can enter in your emulator that'll activate the DRM Hard Mode.

Odd, but then how did the DRM actually function? Was that only on cracked consoles or something?
Just check out this link, it explains it all.
This is my favourite rpg game from my childhood.
