**They added in a link to my blog on the bottom left of their page next to the web designer.** http://www.vanquishvps.com/ http://cresty.tumblr.com/post/1492524662/best-one-so-far-i-fixed-some-glitches-in Granted, I didn't start putting watermarks on my images until a couple months ago to bring people to my channel and tumblr. The reason they couldn't probably find me is since this particular image has been spread all over the internet. I've seen it it on 4chan, other tumblr, reddit, blogs, forums, etc. But since I never marked it... I lost my control over it. What should I do Facepunch? Edit: Messed up on the title. If a mod could change "VPN" to "VPS" that be great, thanks.
find a way to become famous using it
I suggest contacting them and kindly (I really mean it) asking them about it. Don't be an asshole and try to arrange maybe some payment (Maybe some free hosting) and let them keep the picture. That's what I would do.
Send them a cease and desist. [editline]3rd July 2011[/editline] Here's their contact e-mail: chris@vanquishvps.com

Hey, if you don't get the result you're looking for, think about it this way. That hosting company thought your image was good enough to use as its background. If they acknowledge your ownership of the image, then it's something to put in your portfolio or whatnot.
ask them to credit you on the bottom of their page as creator of the background image. and ask nicely. don't be a dick.
Unless you copyrighted the image, You can't do much (if anything)
Unless you copyrighted the image, You can't do much (if anything)
I thought creative work was automatically copyrighted?
I thought creative work was automatically copyrighted?
It's supposed to be, but unfortunately it's not.
It's supposed to be, but unfortunately it's not.
You have no idea what you're talking about.
I thought creative work was automatically copyrighted?
I don't think that applies to game screenshots. It's too bad there's a dumb rating, it gives retards an excuse for not having a good retort.
It's supposed to be, but unfortunately it's not.
All creative work is copyrighted right after it's been finalized. You have no idea what you're talking about. "...Under the Convention, copyrights for creative works are automatically in force upon their creation without being asserted or declared. An author need not "register" or "apply for" a copyright in countries adhering to the Convention. As soon as a work is "fixed", that is, written or recorded on some physical medium, its author is automatically entitled to all copyrights in the work and to any derivative works, unless and until the author explicitly disclaims them or until the copyright expires. Foreign authors are given the same rights and privileges to copyrighted material as domestic authors in any country that signed the Convention..."

Third time I've posted this in a month If you live in the BLUE COUNTRIES, you don't need to apply for copyright or post a notice on it:
I suggest you copyright that picture just in case.
Agreed. Otherwise someone from West Sahara might steal it.

Anyway, contact them and ask them nicely to take it down. If you want you could offer them some sort of deal to keep it there. Make sure to hint at legal action if they don't, but avoid being too overt or threatening. I'm pretty sure the moment you create an artwork it's property of you so as long as you can prove it's yours, you should be fine.
If something I had made ended up being used on someone's website I'd be pretty cool with that. Still, you should definitely politely ask for them to credit you.
I wouldn't be a dick about it. I will try to contact them and see if they can simply add something like, "Artwork by *name* and then a small link to my tumblr or YT channel. Thanks for the responses. It's crazy when I see it on all sorts of gaming websites and blogs and I think, "wow, something I made was cool enough to spread all over the web." Same with my MC interstate v3. It still amazes me.
I suggest you copyright that picture just in case.
Creative Commons licensed image from Wikipedia

Similar thing happened to my dad. He took a picture of his semi-automatic Galil rifle in 2009 and posted it on a forum. Now it's spreading. Wikipedia claims that it was taken in 2007 and it's work of the U.S. Government, but the metadata shows otherwise. :v: Hope you won't get people claiming it as theirs.
I'm wondering, then, why the people who complain about their stuff being stolen by, say, Funnyjunk, just don't go and sue their ass, if their stuff is technically copyrighted.
Not worth the hassle unless it is being used and modified by a commercial venture such as this.
Another host is using your work as well, I don't know if you've given them permission but here it is. http://provisionhost.com/

They should legally have permission in the first place before using it.
I've done some scouting around on various MC hosting sites and found your image here too. http://provisionhost.com/
I've PMed you Brt5470 and hope we can get this resolved for you :)
For those that are wondering I am a representative of Provision Host and not VanquishVPS, although I will try to bring this thread to their attention.
I would just tell them to link to your tumblr.
