Edit: I talked to one of my friends who found a way to make windows 7 a lot less fugly (No... Not just a windows XP theme... I never said XP was pretty, just less ugly :)), which was one of my two main reasons for not wanting to switch and thanks to msdnaa, my second main reason has been taken care of, so he persuaded me to switch :) Still, I'm sad that It will be even harder, to play some of my old games :( Oh well.
Upgrade and buy W7. Seriously.
why buy windows XP? why not just stick with win2000? seriously, you are using 9 year old software.
The DX10 for XP is hilariously hacky and poorly done, and it will make all of your games run like shit on a pancake. Just get Windows 7. Oh wait, you don't want Win 7? Enjoy not having modern games then.
Anyways, I'm really hoping someone on Facepunch will be able to find a solution.
After hours of painstaking research and countless expert opinions I do believe I have found the solution. Stop being an idiot and ditch XP and use W7.
hey guys im on windows 3.1 can anyone redirect me to a emulator for dx 10 thanks
I highly doubt a 9 year old graphics card can run all the newest games on highest quality. Get Windows 7 or stop bitching about support. XP was good yes, but it's incredibly out dated.
Someone PLEASE find some way to play Just Cause 2 on XP... I have tried both Windows Vista and 7, and they look and feel like crap! Why would I want to buy something that does the same as what I have no, but with alot of useless extra features and a fugly look? Would you buy a new graphics card if it made your games look fuzzy and glowy? (More than they already are :P) If your own graphics card (although 9 years old) could run all the newest games on highest quality? Anyways, I'm really hoping someone on Facepunch will be able to find a solution.
If it did the same as XP, then you wouldn't have a problem, there's a reason for new operating systems being released.
Why would I want to buy something that does the same as what I have no...
Yes, XP does all the same stuff as 7 and Vista. Except for, you know, support DX10.
I have windows vista and It looks barely any different than xp.... What is your problem? Seriously my mother uses Xp. (btw have never had a problem with vista V:v:V)
The patch is called Vista/7
Ive seen lots of people bitching about xp, but you have to realize that it is 9 year old software, if you think about it, the hardware from that period wouldnt run shit.
What are you talking about OP XP looks like complete shit compared to Vista and W7.
If you're still not keen on the new visual style, just turn on classic mode
The look isn't the only thing stopping a lot of people(including myself) from switching. XP just gets it right, without fuckloads of bloat, crap, stupid UAC shit, etc.
The only stupid part is you. Why use XP? Win 98 has less bloat and crap than XP. By your retarded logic Win 98 is better than XP.
I've used the one that lets Halo 2 run on XP, and it works great. Although, the Vista/DX10 requirement in Halo 2 was pretty much artificial to get people to upgrade. I wonder how much Vista/7 and DX10 specific stuff JC2 uses.
Most likely a lot. Switching it to DX9 would almost certainly break all the shaders, and, being the sort of game it is, might break the geometry as well, if it uses more recent tricks to modify meshes. And yes, switching Halo 2 to DX10 was wholly unneeded. The original XBox was only DX8.1!
:downs:
Enjoy your crappy, out of date OS.
OH GOD CHANGE AND NEW TECHNOLOGY ITS ALL SO TERRIBLE Upgrade.

Unless sexy aero is crap.
OH GOD CHANGE AND NEW TECHNOLOGY ITS ALL SO TERRIBLE Upgrade.
If i remeber correctly DirectX 10 wasnt given to xp users to force us to buy the "at that time" shitty overally bugged Vista. Also to all thoses saying bawwww its 9years olds, How old is the source engine??
Also to all thoses saying bawwww its 9years olds, How old is the source engine??
Stop right there, the point you're trying to make is dumb. The source engine is old but it has constantly evolved with the times and still looks relatively good.
The source engine runs fine when it feels like it but it is still a terrible engine for pretty much anything that involves detail and incredibly sexy shaders. It also has the stability of "that drunk chick at the party"
Haha, no.
Just to point out Halo 2 didn't have any DX10 features, it was just Vista only.
You might as well just get it. It's not that expensive and you'll learn to love it in the future. Plus alot of games coming out are going to start not supporting xp.

I prefer XP and that is all I will say.
I remember being like you once, I'd had XP for a long time and anything different from it seemed ludicrous. Now, with Win7 installed, I don't want to look back.
I own a Gamecube, but I want to play Halo: Reach. Someone got a patch for it?
UAC is disabled with 4 clicks and 3 keystorkes im sorry but if you can't handle that shut the fuck up.
And to be fair, UAC exists for a very good reason. Despite knowing full well how to disable it, I haven't, and I'm running Vista, which uses it far more than 7. Linux/BSD/Unix users have been putting up with a similar feature for years. I can't even tell you how many times I have to retype a command, prepending "sudo". Yes, it's annoying. But having it can stop, or at least make visible, a wide variety of malware. There's a reason why comp-sec people hate XP far more than Vista or 7.
