I was going to write it myself, but I couldn't seem to keep it short so... I'll steal the Steam description! :niggly:
At the dawn of the 22nd century, the conquest of space and the colonization of the solar system is being monopolized by several huge and ambitious mega-corporations. Although extremely delicate and vulnerable, a balance is maintained by these companies. At the very edge of the solar system the companies make a discovery which will shift the technological advantage and upset the balance. And so a new conflict is born: "The Jupiter Incident".
Nexus - The Jupiter Incident is a real-time mission-based tactical space game featuring spectacular real time battles and breathtaking motion picture quality. Focus on tactics and action as you control up to a dozen battleships encountering aliens, unknown solar systems and astrophysical phenomena in your struggle to save Earth.
Are you ready to take on the challenge?
Gameplay
You take command of a small fleet of ships. Depending on your progress through the game, and which mission in particular, this may range from one to about a dozen ships. Every ship comes equipped with customizable weapons, systems, and engines. Once you reach the second episode of the main storyline, you'll have shields for additional protection.
Combat revolves around tactical decisions involving collapsing the enemies shields and destroying the hull, or using anti-subsystem lasers to disable the enemy ships. There are basically four different families of offensive weapons. Anti-Ship, Anti-Shield, Anti-System, and Area. The anti-ship group consists of gatling guns, plasma cannons, and torpedoes. For anti-shield there are the energy-shells. Heavy and light variations of laser are used for anti-system purposes while the area category includes weapons for taking out both shields and hull, but can be used against multiple ships at once.
Additionally all ships may carry small craft such as fighters, gunboats, and bombers and come equipped with flak lasers to shoot down the enemy fighters and missiles. Ships have a limited supply of power available with which to activate their support systems and weapons. The amount of power available to them is determined by the generators you've equipped them with. Further power can be supplied to the ships Support, Shields, Engines, and Weapons through the use of batteries.
The main campaign of the game is presented as a series of linear missions interspaced with briefing screens and engine based cinematics.

Nexus is a very moddable game. There are already a number of finished mods based on popular sci-fi shows and games.

There are more, including a few standalone mods. Worth checking out: http://www.moddb.com/games/nexus-the-jupiter-incident/mods
Notes: Though this game isn't recent by any means, and I'm not exactly a veteran Facepunch(er?), I'd hope this thread is satisfactory. Nexus:TJI is a truly wonderful game and I feel it is deserving of it's own thread. There is probably more I could do to this OP, and I will see about that in time.
Oh yes, and here is a link to the game on Steam, where you can purchase it for $10, if you feel like it: http://store.steampowered.com/app/6420/

And so on...
Man, i love this game. It's really hard to get into, but once you learn how all the ship systems work, it's amazing.
Is it possible to explore entire solarsystems and land on any celestial body?

If so i'm sold. :q:
Is it possible to explore entire solarsystems and land on any celestial body?
No, the game is pretty old, it's also really linear. Doesn't make it a bad game though.
Is it possible to explore entire solarsystems and land on any celestial body?
You can technically explore entire solar systems, with the map screen, but you cannot interact with them beyond that. It is unfortunate, for that would be simply incredible, but alas. Maybe if Nexus 2 could've been made. Still though, as thrawn2787 mentioned, the story is definitely worth it, despite it's linearity.
Decent game even though it sort of plays like EVE Online.
This game was pretty good but if I remember some of the later levels got really harsh.
If only they continued developing the sequel :saddowns:

Really? I do not. If they had continued, I'd of hoped they'd go back to the bubble shape... Nexus has some of the most awesome looking shields I have ever seen from any media.
EVE singleplayer.
I really liked the beginning missions, but after you get shields it is mostly "what the hell am I doing?"
I haven't played in years. I remember the penultimate battle being more difficult than the final one. Not sure why though.

Eh? How's that exactly?
I personally really enjoyed how you go from rocket propelled ships with spinning sections and all, to fusion/etc with energy shields and all that.
I thought games like Red Alert and whatnot were confusing. Then I found this game and Eve Online. Makes me shit bricks.
Yay, I finally finished my LP! I'll have the last two parts uploaded by later today. /excuse to bump old thread
Jesus fuck I haven't played this in years. I need to dig it- oh wait I have a copy on Steam :buddy:
I need to find the time to play through this.....
