Rise as a Legend. Ryse: Son of Rome is a stunning action-adventure that follows Marius Titus on a heroic quest to avenge the death of his family, and preserve the honor of Rome, at all costs. Take Your Place in History Embark on a journey of revenge, betrayal and divine intervention: Ryse: Son of Rome tells the story of Marius Titus, a young Roman soldier who witnesses the murder of his family at the hands of barbarian bandits, then travels with the Roman army to Britannia to seek revenge. Quickly rising through the ranks, Marius must become a leader of men and defender of the Empire on his quest to exact vengeance - a destiny he soon discovers can only be fulfilled much closer to home. There's No Place Like Rome Ryse: Son of Rome presents a cinematic recreation of the Roman Empire in breathtaking detail, from the northern reaches of Britannia, to the Coliseum and the very heart of Rome itself. Stunning visuals bring every aspect of the Empire to life: Incredibly detailed facial animations add character to the people you encounter, and new CryENGINE features allow for a world unlike anything you've seen on console before. Become Legendary Action, adventure and Brutal Realism: Experience a cinematic adventure that leads you deep into the dramatic world of the Roman Empire. The brutality and intensity of Roman warfare are brought to life in visceral detail, thrusting the player into the chaos of close-quarters combat. See and feel the emotion on your opponent's face! Players have to master sophisticated sword and shield combat techniques to vary attacks and manage multiple enemies, and then finish foes with one of over a hundred brutal final executions. CryENGINE Unleashed Witness the power of CryENGINE 3 in full flow on Xbox One. New features like Crytek’s Virtual Camera hardware provide more directorial power than ever before, meaning developers can make lighting, environment and effects changes on the spot to create a more immersive game world. Meanwhile, advanced Vertex Animation combines with numerous other new features to set new standards for facial animation and realism. At every turn, CryENGINE’s power is put to work not just to change what you see on-screen, but how you connect to the action too. New Ways to Play Command and fight with Kinect for Xbox One. Optional voice commands allow players to direct attacks and encourage their troops, while motivational cries can turn the tide of a mass battle by rallying troops or focusing attacks. Physical gestures can be used in combination with (or instead of) button presses to launch ranged weapons, or to block with your shield. Full SmartGlass integration: With the ability to deep link straight into the campaign and launch from SmartGlass, players can jump directly into the experience. In-game DVR lets players review and share the best experiences from their game directly from their tablet. A context-sensitive achievement and help guide will help players unlock secrets along the way, with tips that are synched to their location and situation. Players can manage their character, inventory and upgrades directly from their SmartGlass device, and also get the latest game news.
it's rocksteady batman but it's not.
It's funny how they swapped out the QTE execution buttons after all the complaining. I have a feeling this will probably end up a bit mediocre, not great but not horrible, just forgettable. Which is a shame, because I love this era of history and wish we'd get more games in it.
I usually love games set in this era, but I won't be picking up an Xbox one for a few years at least.
That Physics. That arrow deflect. That throw from the minotaur. This game is fucking hilarious.
Is there any depth to gameplay or is it just hack n slash?

It feels like all the effort going into this game is going to be for sod all, It really doesn't look like much, it looks like it plays like shit. It looks stunning and brutal, but it just doesn't have any sort of staying power or something that makes me want to really want it. It might be better when you actually get your hands on it, perhaps... If your going to make a game set in this timeline, make it more like this game. I think the game might be really fun, like Spartan Total Warrior without the mythology, and more of a focus on timing attacks. I might just be a sucker for anything with Romans in it though.

I think I can wait till Ryse is bargain-bin or goes multiplat at some point, if it ever does.
I really like the ancient rome settings I know this game has gotten criticisms but I'll prolly give it a shot nonetheless
It looks like a DMC style of combat, but sadly I've really grown to love the soul's series (demon souls <3) style of combat where each move needs to be more carefully calculated then just button mashing.
This is going to play exactly like Space Marine it looks like. I just can't see the actual depth of gameplay though.
I would seriously discourage anyone from buying this.
I would seriously discourage anyone from buying this.
and here comes g-strogg, who's opinion is fact and if you disagree you're objectively wrong. Looks like a neat game, reminds me of a ps2 title that I can't quite remember t he name of. If I get Xbox i'll probably snatch this one.
how is anyone actually defending this game?
you know it's kind of a shame the combat engine is the way it is. That ever changing arena thing sounds badass
Colosseum mode looks really cool.
Every single fight seems to slow the game down and wait for you to hit a button. Before that is just button mashing it looks like. I believe a reviewer called this game "...as much fun as dialing phone numbers" and I'm starting to see why.
I got to play this at the xbox one tour and I enjoyed it. No, it's not super revolutionary but it's solid, meaty hack and slash and it looks phenomenal. If I were to ever get up an xb1 I'd pick this up.
Eugh, the game looks alright, but everything's so inaccurate.
It has a really nice presentation and aesthetic, but the gameplay looks absolutely boring
Why are the shields that small? Why are the gladiators armored to the teeth (and wearing purple)? etc.
It looks beautiful. The combat looks fun. But I bet the combat doesn't get any deeper or more complicated than that. and that's just not enough.
I think they were just trying for a Tekken style fight game, except a little more dynamic. It looks pretty badass in that sense. As far as story and gameplay, it's obviously sheit.

I know they've been changing it up since then but I don't know how it's going to turn out if they change the core elements of the game in that short a time
Yeah, this reminds me less of Spartan and more of it's unofficial sequel/deformed brother Creative Assembly locked in the attic: [t]http://www.segabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Viking4.jpg[/t] It was basically Spartan with less polish and shitty QTEs. Ryse has one of those things down.

They had the gladiator mode for the demo and it is quite challenging and satisfying. The blocking mechanic requires timing because unlike assassins creed you have to pay attention to enemy moves. the qtes are only two or three presses for every time you enter an execution after damaging an enemy enough. Again, it's not revolutionary but it feels tight and very satisfying to play.

I didn't even state an opinion of the game, but I will now. It looks very bad and there is a high risk that potential purchasers will be seriously disappointed even if they for some reason think the media looks good.
Marius Titus Ryse: Son of Rome presents a cinematic recreation of the Roman Empire in breathtaking detail,
Having really unhistorical names is apparantly "breathtaking detail".
