One of my favorite games, Deus Ex majorly deserves a Megathread. With Human Revolution's release, if you haven't played this game yet, you will be very glad you did. Thread Music
Deus Ex (abbreviated DX) is a cyberpunk-themed first-person shooter/computer role-playing game developed by Ion Storm Inc. and published by Eidos Interactive. It was released on June 22, 2000. Receiving almost universally positive reviews from critics and general industry acclaim, the game was a frequent candidate for, and winner of Game of the Year awards. Set in a dystopian world during the 2050s, the central plot follows rookie "United Nations Anti-Terrorist Coalition" (UNATCO) agent JC Denton as he sets out to combat terrorist forces which have become increasingly prevalent in a world slipping ever further into chaos. As the plot unfolds, he becomes increasingly immersed in a deep and ancient conspiracy, encountering fictional recreations of organizations such as Majestic 12, the Illuminati, and the Hong Kong Triads throughout the course of his journey. Ultimately, Denton unravels the goal of the conspiracy: A world oppressivly dominated and controlled by the social and economic elite.
Deus Ex is an open-ended, first-person shooter, role playing game. The game features a complex bio-modification system which can be used to upgrade the characters abilities. (i.e. The player can give himself regenerative tissue biomods or the ability to run at tremendous speeds.) The game has multiple skills the player can focus on. For example, a guard blocks a door down a long corridor that the player needs to get through. The player could use a nearby Security Console to tap into a nearby bots targeting systems and program it to kill the guard and then unlock the door through the console. Or he can use a cloaking bio-modification to sneak by the guard, use a lock pick to bypass the door and move through. A more direct approach can be taken by attacking the guard head on and using remote explosives to breach the door. The skill system is very complex and requires managing. This means you can just expect to get head shots every time with a sniper rifle if he is not trained in using rifles. The same goes for hacking. If the player is untrained in hacking computers or security consoles, they will have to search around for datacubes pertaining the proper username and password. A deep story, addicting techno soundtrack, great combat, and multiple ways to complete objectives make this an amazing. Many would call this a spiritual successor to the System Shock series. I have beaten this game well over a dozen times, and haven't tired of it yet. I always come back to it every few months and play it again. The great part about it is far from short. It takes me on average 20 hours to complete. The original in-game textures were of a very low resolution, some textures even being as low as 32x32. However, it was discovered that it is possible to increase the resolution of those textures to a maximum of 256. This has been tested in-game and we have witnessed the start of a massive graphical overhaul. 1. Features: All new remodelled and retextured Objects. 2. Objects will sport a high resolution of 256. 3. Brand new character models and matching high resolution skins. 4. Character models are more individual. For example each guard/trooper type will now have its own model instead of using the generic one. 5. Character models now have their own fingers (removing the 'mittens' effect). 6. Models that require animation will be full animated from scratch to compliment the higher quality feel. 7. Characters look darker and more moody to enhance the game play experience. 8. Vehicle models and weapons will be remodelled, skinned and reanimated.
Deus Ex: New Vision
It's called Deus Ex: New Vision, and has replastered 75% of the walls in the game with remastered, high resolution textures that should make the classic first-person shooter/RPG—which these days isn't looking too good—look a little better.(Kotaku)
Best game ever made. That project HDTP thing wasn't very good the last time I tried it. Neither is the ENB series. Just ignore the crappy old graphics and enjoy the game.
I was playing this game yesterday, I shit you not. I am up to the part were [sp]You wake up in the detention cell and have to escape the place with the NSF[/sp]
What kind of Day O' Sex fan would I be if I didn't post in this thread? I think it's nearly that time of year again to reinstall and play.

Man, I haven't played it in forever. I always loved it, I just wish they never made the sequel.
I loved this game. Now I have to reinstall it.

A Bomb! I love this game, shame the online pretty much sucks.
I tried to install that mod that improves the game shitload a while back, but it didn't work anymore after that. I'm mad. [editline]12:12PM[/editline] Also who's betting on Deus Ex 3 being a disappointment
Someone should put up a list of mods. [editline]04:59AM[/editline]
[editline]12:12PM[/editline] Also who's betting on Deus Ex 3 being a disappointment
If you bet on it being a piece of shit, then when you go to play it, you're already going to think it's shit. I'll agree, Deus Ex is amazing, and the chances of them really making a great sequel to it are minor, I'm still betting it'll be a good enough game worth playing. Nostalgia is killing gamers today IMO. Everyone lives in the past and anything worth while that comes out now gets ripped on for not being something that's 10 years old. And all the titles from 10 years ago are treated with god praise despite some of the flaws that were common with them.
This topic finally made me buy Deus Ex. It will more than likely not disappoint.
This topic finally made me buy Deus Ex. It will more than likely not disappoint.
the first few levels will dissapoint
First level WILL disappoint most likely, otherwise it just keeps getting better and better
I keep this game installed all the time. So that when someone mentions it I can just go and play it. Such an amazing game. Anyone looking for more Deus Ex goodness should check out The Nameless Mod. Awesome mod which keeps the feel and gameplay of the original intact. Although the stories a bit stupid, it has about 10 hours worth of gameplay per story, and there are 2 different story arcs.
Am I the only one who doesn't hate the first few levels?
The sequel to this was a complete disaster. I won't even bother to explain the reasons why.
Love this game 5 stars! sequel... fuck it and burn it!
I remember I played the first level, ran out of sniper bullets missing my target and was killed by the guy I was trying to taze. Somehow now I must reinstall it though. How many people play the online these days? I remember playing the online and doing horrifically poorly. But it was fun either way.
The mention of "Deus Ex" and "Sequel" in same sentence makes me bleed from eyes and yell in terror on the top of my lungs.
I was playing this game yesterday, I shit you not. I am up to the part were [sp]You wake up in the detention cell and have to escape the place with the NSF[/sp]
That was the best part of the game. [sp]Breaking out, only to find yourself in the UNATCO HQ you started at during the beginning of the game was = mindblown[/sp]
I just started the game and chose the crossbow with the tranq darts. To try it out I shot it at a guard, and it obviously hit because he flinched in pain, but they didn't knock him out. I shot another two darts into him but he still didn't fall over, and he ran towards me shooting so in panic I shot him to death with my pistol. What am I doing wrong with the tranquillizer darts, do they need more time to get through his system, did I hit him in the wrong place or something? Also is there a way to kill/KO somebody without using up ammo of some form? I'm doing alright by tazering people and stabbing them but I only have so much tazer ammo left.

The tranq darts take a little time to take effect if it wasn't a headshot. Make sure you're using the GREEN darts and not the white or orange ones.
I've only played the demo years ago on a demo disk. Coincidentally I just read the Top 100 PC games in the Feb. issue of PC Gamer, and Deus Ex was number one.
TRanquilizer darts take time. You will see him continiously get hit by the effect. So, shoot once AND RUN LIKE FUCK! Alternatively get as close as possible and crowbar them in the back of the head. Or sneak, sneak, sneak.
Both my brothers have played it and loved it, and I can't think why the heck I haven't yet.

If they do I'll end up having to kill all the guards I confront after I knock them out, so they don't tell their friends something's wrong when they come around.

It's really the same as killing. Except most of stun weapons are silenced, amking them more viable.
Some day I will get past the first level. Some day.
Am I the only one who doesn't hate the first few levels?
I don't hate them because they are good. I never understood the whole thing about this. What is it that makes this level so bad? To me it's one of the most interesting (but I could say every level is great too though).
Some day I will get past the first level. Some day.
Just sneak past and crowbar everyone [editline]05:46PM[/editline] Hit them in the head or they won't die
