Jeb posted a twitter update. No 1.8 tonight [quote]There wont be an update today, but tomorrow I will *at least* update the prerelease[/quote] [URL]http://twitter.com/#!/jeb_[/URL]
As much I want to play 1.8 this is probably a good thing as the pre-release is riddled with bugs.
Not sure this needed it's own thread...
Why new thread? What are we going discuss about, or did you create it to do some late release ranting?
I am for one, very sad. This was the highlight of the day. Yes you read correctly. The highlight. I obviously don't have much in life to look forward to currently. Especially on mondays. Secondly I think Jens should've stuck with his release date. Basically he just screwed a ton of people over. Well what can you do. Oh well. v:v:v
Wow....
Personally I am glad. The current small list of 1.8 servers will remain well populated by good players, the bugs will be fixed and the real 1.8 will be stable, we get a nice update to the prerelease tomorrow, and we get a possibility of some good fixes with the generation/EXP. Not to mention that I won't be at work when the update arrives, so I get to play it as soon as it comes out. I for one, welcome the delay.
Tin-foil hat on. Maybe they purposely leaked it so people would have something to chew on, giving them a couple extra days to work on it without backlash from fans for missing another deadline. [editline]12th September 2011[/editline] Also, totally saw this one coming

[editline]12th September 2011[/editline] [b] The leak was obviously on purpose. The forums link to it, and it even says "Pre-Release" at the top, which shows it was prepared beforehand. [QUOTE=Loriborn;32255444]I think you're meant to make your reply outside of the quote tags.[/QUOTE]
But if they released everything on time, they wouldnt have time to go on vactions and roll around in money

Whiny, entitled kids like you are why no company these days gives any release dates or Update timelines. Screwed a ton of people over. Psssh. How exactly? By not releasing a bugridden piece of malware that crashes servers and clients on a whim? This is why we can't have nice things.
God damn we now have 4 different threads just for 1.8...
[QUOTE=loggerin;32256146]As long as they fix the xp orbs i don't mind an extra days wait. woo creeper [IMG]http://i.imgur.com/HzgYc.jpg[/IMG][/QUOTE] Notch did say that the making of a good game required A LOT of particles.
Just gotta remember that it's for the best. Now back to playing the pre-release!
The longer the wait, the better the final product.
[QUOTE=eninco;32256737]The longer the wait, the better the final product.[/QUOTE] Not necessarily. I'd like to remind you of Duke Nukem Forever
Well in all fairness, the rights to DNF were purchased, and then the game was thrown together just to capitalize on the name.
[QUOTE=TheTalon;32257140]Well in all fairness, the rights to DNF were purchased, and then the game was thrown together just to capitalize on the name.[/QUOTE] The build of DNF that we are playing was started on around 3 - 4 years ago, and I'm sure that some assets from previous builds were used. Many games that have a development cycle of only 2 years (such as Call of Duty games) are still capable of acquiring an average score on Metacritic above 80, and even 90.
Why give everyone a date? Just fucking release it when it's ready.

[/QUOTE] I have constant deadlines, so complain I shall. I have no problem with notch taking his time, It's just when he lies about release dates.
[QUOTE=myalt22;32257279]Why give everyone a date? Just fucking release it when it's ready.[/QUOTE] I reckon that they should still announce a date, but the date actually be two to three weeks after the intended delivery date. That way, if there are delays causing the game to not be delivered on the intended date then it's no biggie because no one was to know that it was supposed to be released alot earlier. If the update is released before the announced date, then the community would be rather happy with the developers.
They should just not release it in two parts and release it when it's ready.
Plus its not like we can't mess around on the pre-release.

It's unfair for them that they can't rely on a business to keep to its words, and it also shows how unprofessional the business is as well. I reckon it's perfectly reasonable to "whine" about things like this, as it's only for the better. I know of deadlines myself as well, and I always make sure to meet everything on time. That way, people are happy with me and they are likely to choose me for later tasks. Maybe Mojang should understand that concept.
[QUOTE=myalt22;32257322]I have constant deadlines, so complain I shall. I have no problem with notch taking his time, It's just when he lies about release dates.[/QUOTE] They never 'lied' about the release date, they said September 8th (and later September 12th) was a GOOD GUESS. Good guess =/= confirmed deadline.
