• MS what have you done to Killer Instinct!?

Killer Instinct has been mistreated by Microsoft since 2007, they wouldn't let Rare make it because MS wanted Nuts and Bolts, but because that one game did poorly they sent them to Kinect hell never to return. Then Microsoft had the Gaul to give one of gaming's most underrated franchises to Double Helix, the company who hasn't made a single good game their entire career (they made the Michael bay battleship game). As I saw more of the game play it kind of looked fun but Microsoft somehow had to ruin that by not only rushing the game but making it a free to play game, forcing you to buy the rest of the characters. On top of that we only have 8 characters! This was OK for something like skullgirls because they were an indie developer with limited resources but have been releasing more characters for free when they first come out( doesn't help its $14.99). Double helix doesn't have this excuse so even for $20.00 this game is very bare bones since there is no story mode, no arcade mode to my knowledge, just overall it’s not a good value. But the thing that really got me was the characters they decided to put it, now I’ll give them credit for keeping most of the original fighters such as Jago, Saberwulf and Orchid. However It baffles me that they left out fan favorites like Cinder and Riptor in favor of Sadira who may or may not be good. But I will admit that’s a nitpick but this game not being a good value for your money is not. If they were allowed to Finnish this game and not rush it, I might have had a different view on this game but unfortunately is not the case. I’ll be surprised if Microsoft releases this on the PC on steam in its complete state (fingers crossed). Now I will try a demo of this game if given the chance but that won’t be likely for a while. If you like the game that’s fine however I wrote this so you would be aware of not only its micro transaction nightmarish nature, but also so you knew the history behind Rare having a passion to make this game but Microsoft ultimately squandering Rare’s talent.
Uh, Killer Instinct 2013 is fucking AMAZING, dude. They gameplay is so honed as compared to the first two games, while keeping the same fun gameplay style. Yes, it has problems, but Killer Instinct is far from screwed. Double Helix so far has done a BRILLIANT job on it so far.

Do you not have any problems with how little their is in the actual game right now?
Not really, because it's only $20. That's really nothing for a game that's this much fun to just play. I'm personally a big KI fan, and what hooks me isn't the amount of content or characters, it's the gameplay. And to me, for $20, the gameplay is utterly golden. Kicks the hell out of Skullgirls.

Skullgirls is $14 and is just as complete as something like the home port of Tekken 3. I remember back when $20 would buy a complete game. I'm also a fan of Killer Instinct as well, that's why I'm being so critical on Microsoft and Double Helix on this. I can also get "The King Of Fighters XIII" for less then KI 2013, I don't think I need to elaborate on King of fighters being complete. I understand that you like the new Killer Instinct but I am not talking about whether the game is good or not, im talking about what Microsoft has done to make it a poor value.
i really don't think any dev team would volunteer to make the michael bay battleship game. that was probably a situation where they really needed the money. you've also gotta consider that killer instinct was announced as a launch title so there would've been a strict deadline and some rush involved. give the devs a break.
Microsoft had the Gaul to give one of gaming's most underrated franchises to Double Helix
Microsoft sent an RFP and Double Helix was the studio that picked up on it. Luck of the draw, really.
Microsoft somehow had to ruin that by not only rushing the game but making it a free to play game, forcing you to buy the rest of the characters.
If you buy the game for $20 you get all the characters. Also, run some spell check next time.

It doesn't matter if DH were forced or not to make the battleship game, they could have made any game they made good but that wasn't the case. Yes, Microsoft is causing some problems, but it's far from ruined or screwed. I still hold hope that this game gets the recognition and care it deserves and gets much more additions to it. I don't want this game to fail, it's too good for that.
KI is great and the pricing model is fantastic. The "free" bit is essentially a demo you can play with your friends that keeps one character from being the "free" character. Have you played it? It's really fun!
I want a Xbox One JUST for killer instinct. Honestly the only issue with the new killer instinct ( From what I saw mind you ) Is the lack of content like a story mode or Characters ( i miss you Fulgore <3 ) Hopefully the future of KI will be a good one!
I will forever refer to the Xbox One simply as a "Killer Instinct Machine."
I thought it was a faithful recreation though I'd prefer buying the full game at the start.
True you get the very small roster but that's it, you don't get the characters that come next
Wrong. $5 for individual characters $20 for all characters (including upcoming) $40 for all characters and all skins/costumes Better deal than SF4.
Wrong. $5 for individual characters $20 for all characters (including upcoming) $40 for all characters and all skins/costumes Better deal than SF4.
8 characters for $20 isn't a value. King of fighters VIII can be bought right now for $14.99, a complete game that's a better value then KI right now. Is it too much to ask Microsoft to Finnish the damn game!?
I'm not paying $20 for characters, I'm paying $20 for a very well-made fighting game. The pay system is pretty dumb, yes. But the gameplay itself is worth it in my opinion.
I thought it was a faithful recreation though I'd prefer buying the full game at the start.
Why is that such a hard thing to ask for now a days?
I'm still iffy about their Strider game that DH is also working on, but Killer Instinct doesn't seem bad by any stretch. Just limited. But then the original Killer Instinct games weren't exactly content-heavy either. Plus doesn't the $40 deal come with the original Killer Instinct that they're working on making online-compatible?
If I recall correctly... Double Helix was initially created because the devs were really hopeful to get the Killer Instinct license. They ended up getting their reputation fucked over because they were only ever called to make movie games. Being people that had more experience in the fighting genre, they did horrible with the movie games. As soon as they heard Rare got the approval to make a KI for the Xbone, DH immediately whipped up a tech demo and showed it to Rare in an attempt to let them do it instead of Rare itself. They succeeded. Because Microsoft was a bunch of cockholes, Rare initially only had less than a year to make the game, so that means DH would have had less. It's not their fault. The F2P model is much more like a demo, in the same regards that 3rd Strike Online and MVC2 Online have demos, but you can play online against anybody, but not use the full roster. For less than a year, they fully fleshed out their engine, did amazing balancing work, and created what could be considered the best netcode of fighting games so far. The pricing model is much like a standard fighting game. They will be $5 per character(like Skullgirls is doing) but you can also purchase the first 8 characters for $20, which is 50% off buying each one individually. It's more than Skullgirls, but with good reasons behind it. A tutorial that's even more comprehensive than the Skullgirls tutorial. A very low entry barrier with a high skill ceiling allows newcomers to enter the fighting genre more easily and get good. MADE IN LESS THAN A YEAR I see nothing wrong with this game in the slightest.
Wait are you saying its not their fault that they made those movie licensed games? They could have pulled a Wayforward and made any of those games amazing but according to you they had more experience in the fighting genre, What experience? I don't care how quickly they fleshed out their engine, the point is the game was rushed and it shouldn't have been because if they had the time to complete it none of us would be having this conversation right now because then Microsoft wouldn't be pulling off this Microtransaction nightmare on gamer's. Btw what do you mean "It's more than Skullgirls, but with good reasons behind it."

I don't care how "rushed" you think it is, it's better made than many popular Capcom fighters. I'd waaaay sooner play Killer Instinct than UMvC3.

A better value fighter for your dollar would be something like King of Fighters, Injustice Gods among us or Skullgirls. These games are all complete and were not rushed to the market because MS was an impatient spoiled brat of a company.
If $20 is too much for a well-made game, currently finished or not, then I feel sorry for everyone who bought the Minecraft beta.
If $20 is too much for a well-made game, currently finished or not, then I feel sorry for everyone who bought the Minecraft beta.
You seem to be conditioned to accept an incomplete game because your a KI fan, I don't care if the game is well made or not, its an incomplete game and you shouldn't be OK with that. I'm guessing the reason Double Helix is making this is because Rare wouldn't have rushed it out for launch, they would have given Microsoft the finger and said their not releasing an unfinished game. If the game is good that would only make things worse sense a good game is being tinted by bad business practices.

Not to mention, when you pay that $20, you still get all the rest of the game as it's released. So, basically, it's JUST LIKE A PAID BETA. There's literally nothing for me to complain about. I agree that the pay system isn't ideal, but it's seriously just $20. The gameplay is so good, I don't CARE that it's currently unfinished. It will be finished in a few months, and it will STILL be only $20. If anything, right now people are just getting to play the beta early. And it's a DAMN GOOD beta.
Never played the old ones, probs never gonna play the new one, but it looks like a decent game. When's that kickass soundtrack coming out tho?
