Ok, seeing this was already posted in the proper place (Diablo III megathread), I'll lay out the basics. 1. Installer has been out for a few hours now. 2. It's the full beta. 3. To install you have to agree with an NDA, which has amongst other things: [quote](v) Blizzard may monitor and record any and all communications, electronic or otherwise, pertaining to the Game including, without limitation, packets, chat, email, message board postings, etc.;[/quote] 4. It is unplayable without a verified F&F account or crack. 5. The files are the same format as WoW, and can be datamined as such (OMG THE MUSIC IS FUCKING AMAZING SERIOUSLY) 6. Blizzard does not want you to download it yet, and may get pissy over it later (no beta access at all anymore or other shit like they pulled with the Cataclysm leak).

The beta itself takes 2 GBs of HDD space. The actual beta will be beginning this week.

An offline player is unlikely, unlike StarCraft 2 which does have a single player element, Diablo 3 basically doesn't and a lot of the game information required to make the game work properly is done thru Blizzard's servers.
