I just downloaded Resistance and Liberation, new update 1.6 came out. I heard it was pretty popular.
Fortress Forever is pretty good.
Pirates Vikings and Knights II is pretty fun
I'd say... Obsidian Conflict I guess.
Comine Destiny was good for it being just released a year after Half Life 2, this might not work though.

I'd recommend you to follow the activity around Bisounours Party, an old version of the game is out,it's not played anymore, but a new version is on the way.

Definitely this if you're looking for something that isn't HL2 themed. It's overall pretty great and I think a fair amount of people play it still.
Zombie Master is the shit. Not really populated anymore, but still the best source mod.
Suicide Survival is a nice mod if you are looking to dick around with some friends.
