what kind of image have i got to use for the spray, all the images i've used give me error.

Try vtf. You can use the program VTFEdit to convert your images into it. You can download it here: [URL]http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?c=178[/URL]
Also, try to keep TF2 related things in the Team Fortress 2 section.
.tga is just fine
