• Dead Island Duplicate Product Code

I bought dead island the other day from a gamestop, and yes, before I get chewed out for buying retail instead of directly from steam, I had some gift cards left over so it was like 5 dollars as opposed to shelling out $50. I guess I'm getting what I paid for. When I came home and punched my CD key in to activate it, it said it was a duplicate product code and would not be activated. So presumably gamestop either sold me a used copy (it was packaged as new) or one of their employees took the key and repackaged it. I already shot steam support a question detailing my problem, asking them to reset/move the key to my account, and as nice as steam support is, they take forever, and god dammit I'm impatient. Is there anything I can do to make this go faster? Can I bitch to gamestop, or will they just tell me I'm trying to rip them off since I already opened the box and could have already registered the product? Am I just screwed for being stupid? Oh hey there's a dead island thread right down there. Ooops (User was banned for this post ("Missed the megathread" - Orkel))
You could try, as you said, going to Gamestop, but you are probably right, they will more than likely tell you it is an open product, and they do not do exchanges/refunds on PC games. I'd try sticking with Steam Support. You have the steam product key, and they is all they need to assist you in fixing the problem for this particular situation. They are slow, but they will get it corrected.

They'll most likely ask for a picture of the CD key, perhaps even the receipt, along with your Steam name in the picture. Might as well prepare beforehand.
Going to gamestop wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. If they tell you that they can't do anything, call corporate.
Go to Gamestop. I did this when my Empire : Total War key was a duplicate and I got a new one.
