This is a really strange issue I've been having recently. Almost every single mod I have installed, whether using the 2006 engine or later, simply crashes on startup, most of the time with no error message. Some of these mods actually freeze up and come up with an error saying that a startup.vtf file is missing from /console/ or something. This is usually preceded by a white screen when playing the intro movie that comes with the mod.
I've tried changing the SteamAppIDs in the gameinfo.txts to 215, I've tried reinstalling Source SDK and its bases, and I've tried verifying HL2's files. Does anyone have experience with this? Am I the only one with this issue?

This is an issue related to steampipe, where many mods were affected by the conversion, thus breaking old mods. You're not the only one with this issue.
The only thing I could find that MIGHT be of help is this: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3145777

I've tried this link, but for some reason the fix didn't work. This link, however, did the trick: http://lambdageneration.com/modding/source/fixing-half-life-2-and-portal-mods-on-steampipe-a-quick-guide/
It seems to be pretty much almost the same thing...either way, I'll leave this up in case some other guy needs the help.
