So I'm going to be making a mod that improves the Endermen (making them scarier/more formidable). I just need you guys to tell me WHAT to change, as I'm not the greatest game designer. So suggest things for me to change about them. Current changes to be made: -Remove/change zombie sounds -Increase health -Increase damage
You should make them scarier and more formidable. Just saying.
Make them Much tougher and taller. 25 hearts of Health, and make them appear after you create your first Nether Portal. Also, make them specifically destroy your buildings once noticed (much like Ghasts can destroy some blocks in the nether) Bam. Much more scary
Kind of like a...pop?
Notch is already doing this for 1.9 though.
make it so if its not in the line of sight, it whispers. [editline]28th September 2011[/editline] as in, not even on your screen.

Also, bring back the green eyes and gray particles for the Endermen. They look so fucking stupid with purple eyes/particles.
Something like this should play when endermen are near
Keep/Don't change the zombie sounds Decrease Health Decrease Damage
When you look at the enderfags, the screen gets darker and the sides of the screen become alot closer in like tunnel vision.
What would make them scarier is if they were invulnerable to anything but water/lava and only moved when you couldn't see them. Keep it so that they're passive unless looked at, but if you look at it and don't have a bucket of water or lava you're doomed.
Keep/Don't change the zombie sounds Decrease Health Decrease Damage
You might as well lay ender pearls out for us then.
You might as well lay ender pearls out for us then.
Good point. Make it so whenever you spawn in the world, it gives you an ender pearl. /sarcasm

Like how a Creeper is scary.
Creepers are scary because they can surprise you sometimes. If you want the Enderman scary like that, it'd need to teleport behind you randomly with a loud POP noise, hopefully scaring the player and causing him to turn around as the Enderman smashes his head in with a stone block. Actually they should deal damage based on what block they have, I.E. leaves wouldn't cause you to take damage while something hard like stone would deal a lot of damage.
They need to actually do something with the blocks they move around. How about instead of griefing my buildings/forests, they build obelisks and pagan altars and shit. [editline]28th September 2011[/editline] Maybe if they build a certain whatever, it summons some much larger/tougher mob.
Make it so when you look at one, all the ones nearby look at you aswell and slowly start to walk towards you.
Narrow player FoV when nearby. If 1 block away from an enderman make it roughly as narrow as when a fully charged arrow is in the bow.

Pack mentality. Looking at one make all of them nearby become hostile. Also suggested sounds: And this may be beyond your abilities, but them removing blocks to get to the player, instead of just randomly, would make them scarier. You couldn't just hide in your house until morning, they'd get you.
Maybe only dig/bridge their way to you once they're alerted. I'd hate to have half a dozen endermen spontaneously tear through my wall.
Endermen just don't seem consistent. I can wave my crosshair all over them, and they won't do anything. I can attack them and kill them easily, and sometimes they get me. The modded in version of 1.7 seemed scarier, because once you've looked at it then you have no escape, you must confront it.
Make them invulnerable to water, and make them just vanish when the sun comes up.
make it so that its when you look completely away from them that they attack you, not if you look a centimeter on their body they attack
Make them follow the player at a safe but visible distance, if they're on the players screen for a few seconds, have them teleport somewhere behind the player. Being on the player's screen adds to a total time, which, when a goal is met, it begins to gradually move closer and make louder whispers until it's close enough and then just speeds toward the player swingin'.
I would make them pretty much exactly like the weeping angels from doctor who. They are passive to start like normal but when you look at them directly for the first time they freeze. They cannot be killed while you are looking at them, and by looking at them I mean you can see them on your screen at all. They also dont move as long as you can see them. When you cant see them they quickly teleport towards you (making sounds so you know if you accidentally look at one) If they reach you they insta-kill you. The only way to kill one is to bait it in to water/lava/cactus etc. Basically DONT LOOK AT THEM. And if you do DONT BLINK.

You need to do everything other then that that has been suggested, BUT make it so they don't die in water.
Why is it a bit much? It would make them scary as hell and you would never want to look at them directly. Plus you could use the ender pearl as a sort of shield or something so then they dont insta-kill you and they dont become invincible when you look at them, then if you have like a diamond sword and the ender pearl then you could take one on much more easily without dying.

Notch should make the Endermen stalk you slowly, such as being in the woods, you look at it accidentally, you run, climbing hills, and it slowly teleports closer and closer as the sound it makes gets louder and louder until it attacks you letting out a screech that can be heard from miles away. May seem stupid to some of you, but thats how I picture an Enderman if it were actually scary. Right now it just teleports at random spots around you and walks over to you when meters close and then attacks you.
Remove the purple particles please.
