This is the alchemy discussion thread, I'll update the OP with recipes, guides, etc. The Basics: To perform alchemy you need several resources. Potion Bottles: These are used to store your potions when they're done being created. Pretty simple, you'll need a good supply of sand (and storage, you can't stack potions, only bottles!) Brewing Stand: You'll need at least one of these, but with more you can mass produce potions quicker. It takes a long period of time to cook a potion so having more will increase your output dramatically. Ingredients: Ingredients are used in the brewing stand to actually create potions. You'll need a lot of each of them, and they each have their own effects and interact in hard to predict fashions. From left to right: Sugar: Crafted from sugar cane. Fairly common. Redstone Dust: Mined from underground, pretty easy to get. Nether Wart: Found only in nether fortresses, pretty damn rare, but it's farmable so once you get a little bit, you're set for life. Blaze Powder: Crafted from blaze rods, which are in turn dropped by blazes. Found in nether cities, they're apparently very hard to fight (I haven't found any yet, and I've been spawning my blaze powder) Fermented Spider Eye: A spider eye crafted with a brown mushroom and a piece of sugar. Pretty easy to get once you set up a mushroom/sugar cane farm and spiders are pretty commonplace. Spider Eye: Dropped by spiders sometimes, surprisingly uncommon, it can take a lot of spider kills to get one of them. That said, spiders are hardly rare so you'll be able to get more if you want them. Ghast Tear: Dropped by ghasts, pretty hard to get since ghasts LOVE to hang out over lava, and don't even drop that many. For economical reasons, it'll be best if we can find potions that don't need this. Glowstone Dust: Dropped by glowstone when broken, once you reach the nether you'll have an unlimited supply of this essentially. Magma Cream: Crafted from slime balls and blaze powder. Slime balls are dropped by slimes. Pretty rare, since it comes from two uncommon mobs (one of which is deadly) Finally, you'll need an infinite water spring, to fill your potion bottles. Making The Potions: First, you have to fill your potion bottles with water, simply take some bottles to a water tile and right click, you'll fill up a potion with each click. For each stand you have, you'll want 3 water bottles, since that's the most economical amount, otherwise you're wasting ingredients. Next, you right click the brewing stand to begin the procedure: 1. Animated bubble thing, indicates that the potion is brewing. 2. Ingredient Slot, you place your ingredient here and if it's suitable for the current potion it will begin the brewing process. 3. Progress bar, shows you how long until the current ingredient is finished brewing into the bottles. 4. Bottle slots, you can put in water bottles (to begin the process), empty bottles (for no reason, perhaps storage if you want) or potions (to brew the potion more and change it's effect) After you put everything in, it will begin brewing. Sometimes an ingredient simply won't brew, I'm not sure on the exact rules of this, but basically if it's not brewing, try another ingredient. Keep in mind you can ruin a good potion if you add the wrong ingredient to it! Recipes: Potion of Healing: Instant Heal 1. Nether Wart 2. Ghast Tear Potion of Swiftness: Speed (3:00) 1. Nether Wart 2. Sugar Extended Potion of Swiftness: Speed (8:00) 1. Nether Wart 2. Sugar Potion of Strength: Strength (3:00) 1. Nether Wart 2. Blaze Powder Potion of Fire Resistance: Fire Resistance (3:00) 1. Nether Wart 2. Magma Cream Note: Adding redstone dust to a nether wart based potion seems to boost the length of it's effect, while adding glowstone dust boosts it's level. If you find a good recipe, write down the exact order of ingredients and post it in this format: Recipe Name: Effect 1. Ingredient 1 2. Ingredient 2 3. Ingredient 3
Oh thanks!
Ultra Speed Potion: Super Speed (24h) 1.Laxatives 2.Speed
Looks cool!
From my experiments, potions that don't have nether wart as their first ingredient can't become a positive potion. The only ingredients allowed after redstone or glowstone based potions are fermented spider eyes (which always result in a weakness potion)
Found these so far: Healing Potion : Water Bottle + Netherwart + Ghast Tear (InstantHealth) Healing Potion : Water Bottle + Netherwart + Ghast Tear + Glowstone Dust (InstantHealth II) Fire Resistance Potion : Water Bottle + Netherwart + Magma Cream (Fire Resistance 3:00) Fire Resistance Potion : Water Bottle + Netherwart + Magma Cream + Redstone (Fire Resistance 8:00) Strength Potion : Water Bottle + Netherwart + Blaze Powder (Strength 3:00) Strength Potion : Water Bottle + Netherwart + Blaze Powder + Redstone (Strength 8:00) Strength Potion : Water Bottle + Netherwart + Blaze Powder + Glowstone Dust (Strength II 1:30) Swiftness Potion : Water Bottle + Netherwart + Sugar (Speed 3:00) Swiftness Potion : Water Bottle + Netherwart + Sugar + Redstone (Speed 8:00) Swiftness Potion : Water Bottle + Netherwart + Sugar + Glowstone Dust (Speed II 1:30) Negative Effected Potion : (Note: I found out how to do PoisonII and longer poison effect and weakness effect, I dont think its necessary for me to post them here since i don't think anyone will need them ) Poison : Water Bottle + Netherwart + Spider Eye (Poison 0:45) Potion Of Harming : Water Bottle + Netherwart + Spider Eye + Fermented Eye (Instant Damage) Weakness Potion : Water Bottle + Netherwart + Fermented Eye (Weakness 1:30) Potion Of Slowness : Water Bottle + Netherwart + Sugar + Fermented Eye (Slowness 1:30) Unknown Potions??? Mundande Potion : Water Bottle + Redstone Thick Potion : Water Bottle + Glowstone Dust
I'll put up the fire resistance, redstone/glowstone seems to be an alchemical rule that boosts an effects power or it's length.
What's this "alchemy" thing?
What's this "alchemy" thing?
Notch added alchemy to mineraft, items can be combined to create potions with unique effects. Read the OP.
:suicide:
Uh no, obviously you don't understand how well these were implemented. The way the potions work is amazing for MC. Each potion is difficult to get, there are thousands of different unique potions, and the potions do not stack. Plus, potion buffs are not over-powerful.
:suicide:
I'm not seeing the bad.
Personally I love potions, and will love them even more if I can poison arrows and my blade (for a set number of hits)
Personally I love potions, and will love them even more if I can poison arrows and my blade (for a set number of hits)
Once Notch adds this then I will love him.
Um I believe Alchemy is magically turning an object to gold. Its apothecary for potions, no? All poison can do right now is for right now is tricking players into drinking it. Except that's hard because there's a massive label when you hover your mouse over it in the inventory menu.

It was basically an early version of chemistry. However; the main idea of alchemy wasn't to create gold, but due to greed the alchemists often tried to create gold or something to grant them eternal youth .

I'm gonna go make some potions now.
If there's an invisibility potion eventually added, I'm going to go fucking nuts in servers.
Give the potions unofficial cocktail names Screaming Bloody Orgasm On the beach ect.
Give the potions unofficial cocktail names Screaming Bloody Orgasm On the beach ect.
I totally want a Damage III potion named "Punch in the Gut"
If there's an invisibility potion eventually added, I'm going to go fucking nuts in servers.
It's like the Secret Griefer Identity but worse.
From my experiments I think they've severely dumbed the system down since the original version :( There seem to be far fewer combinations and I've only gotten potions to level II.
Netherwarts is the only starting ingredient worth anything if you want anything but Potions of Weakness.
It could be that Jeb hasn't finished adding everything correctly. Jeb keeps wanting to change the system because the potions can't stack, or something.
Okay, I don't think Fermented Eyes are useful for anything, I do know they knock healing II's to Weakness potions though V:v:V
Wait 1.9 is out? Since when?
If only you could put a sword and two potions of the same type above it to create a sword that does 1 hit of the effect of both potions combined.
should be able to create poisons, which you can apply to a sword or arrows which cause damage to mobs, AKA, shoot creeper with poisoned arrow, creeper starts taking damage every few seconds for a period of time.
should make an explosive dampening compound, like u throw it at a creeper, and it goes sssssss, but no boom... also u can apply it to a block to protect it
