• Problems With Left4Dead 2

I purchased Left4Dead 2 a couple of weeks ago on steam and it's been working fine. However I haven't been able to play it since the update last Friday. When I try to play the game it comes of with the message "completing installation...0%". It then gets stuck on 1% and comes up with the message "In order to run steam properly on this version of windows, the steam service component must be installed. The service installation service requires administrator privileges." I then click "install service" and it appears to install. A message then comes up that says steam must be restarted to install the latest update. It restarts, but when I try and play the game it just goes around in the same loop as before. I am the administrator of my computer and I have tried various fixes for this problem. I have deleted the steam service file manually, but this doesn't work. I have verified the integrity of the games cache and gone into control panel and repaired steam but neither of these has worked. I have even re-installed both Left4Dead and steam, but the same problem keeps on happening. As I said I have been able to play the game before. I have encountered this problem once before (the second time I played the game). It went through the cycle twice, then the game automatically restarted itself and worked without having to install itself. Has anyone else encountered this problem and has a solution? My specs are: -Windows 7 home premium 64bit -AMD athlon 635 -NVidia GTX 460 Full specs:

I would tell you that you have to be an administrator for this installation to be completed, since that always works for me, but I've never experienced the "Close Steam for updating" message while updating L4D2, so I honestly don't know how else to help. Have you tried it from other admin accounts on your computer or is yours the only one?
Mine is the only account on this computer [editline]21st October 2010[/editline] And the restart window only comes up because I've updated steam
I made an account just to post this: you can't install the Steam service because you're not running Steam as an administrator. Close Steam, right click on it's icon and run as administrator. Try to play again and the game should finish installing just like it's supposed to. Hope that helps!
