I'm considering ordering a minecraft server, How much memory should I buy for 6-8 slots? (192MB, 256MB, 512, 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G)
You could get away with 256MB, but I would really recommend 512MB. I use Fluctis Hosting.
I host a 6-slot on a 1ghz celeron netbook with 1gb ram, but I've limited it to 512mb. The console spews stuff about not enough memory when it launches but it always runs fine.
At LethalDrive I generally suggest 256MB to every 5 slots for upmost stability, but you can get away with less RAM/more players depending on yer plugins and how spread out the players are. With the new view-distance parameter, you can probably pull off even more.
I use my own dedicated server with 7 gigs ram and about 6 cores @ 1.2~GHZ, on a dedicated gigabit line(to the internet, it has internal lines even faster within its own intranet)
Overkill.
512MB server would run fine for 6-10 slots. But what you have to start worrying about is if the internet can handle it.
