For any Valve game that has multiplayer, most of the time when I try to join a server or do a video stress test, the game crashes saying, "failed to lock vertexbuffer on ::C8MESHvertexbuffer::" or something along the lines of that. And, I need some help of why this is happening.
If you need some specs of some of my parts, I will post them.
Please, post your specs for us. I have a feeling it's bad hardware.
Aren't that great. To get you prepared, I have an AGP motherboard with Win. XP

Well, considering that you're playing games by Calve, it probably is really bad
Derp. Thanks for pointing that out.
You need a new computer. Definitely. Can you go to dxdiag and tell us your specs from there?
Like RAM?

Looking at this I seriously felt like I was back in time :v:
Type DDR
Size 1024 MBytes
Channels # Dual
DRAM Frequency 199.5 MHz
CAS# Latency (CL) 3 clocks
RAS# to CAS# Delay (tRCD) 3 clocks
RAS# Precharge (tRP) 3 clocks
Cycle Time (tRAS) 8 clocks
Fuuuuck only 1024 MB
"t h e" is right, playing with an nVidia 6 series card = bad idea.
Until you get a new PC, try putting one of these in your game launch settings for your games.
-dxlevel 80
-dxlevel 70
[editline]25th November 2011[/editline]
But really, my best answer is to get a new PC, as it is all very old hardware that shouldn't be played on.
What does it do?
I'd recommend dxlevel 70 for best performance. At least I think
To put it simple, tones down graphics
Holy shit, get a new compooter man.
What does it do?
Since your card probably can't handle DirectX 9 graphics, this forced Source to use DirectX 8 or 7 graphics.
We're in the DirectX 11 era.
But would it stop the crash?
[editline]25th November 2011[/editline]
Motherfucker why is it me that has to have the worst computer in this house.
I can't fucking wait to get a new fucking motherboard, so then I can get previous upgrades from my brother.
He upgrades a fuckton.
I can't fucking wait to get a new fucking motherboard
That won't fix your computer sucking
But would it stop the crash?
Try it and see. If you read the above, you may be getting the error because your card can't handle the load. If you decrease the DirectX level with one of those launch options, your card may be able to cope.
That won't fix your computer sucking
Not immediately, but DDR slots in this day and age is not something you want to stick with.
We're in the DirectX 11 era.
Though technically we're still in DX10, considering the fact that more than 50% of people are still in DX10 and only 5% of people use DX11
[editline]25th November 2011[/editline]
MY AUTOMERGE
I got the full error again, and I still have it up now.
failed to lock vertex buffer in CmeshDX8::LockVertexBuffer
Also, I'm mostly playing CSS.

It is true that most games aren't DX 11 yet, but regardless DX 7-8 hardware is pretty ancient.

Have you ever been able to run these games successfully before?
I put it to
-dxlevel 70
I put it to
-dxlevel 70
Try -dxlevel 80
then, try -dxlevel 81
Yes, I ran them very well with my previous, shittier card.
Yes, I ran them very well with my previous, shittier card.
But have you ever ran them successfully with the card you have now?
Besides from the error and missing white textures, yes
dude, i've been telling this over steam for the last year just about, it's your goddamn computer. everything in there is outdated, and your best bet is to launch everything in the lowest possible graphical settings until you can get a new computer. i've sent you a few builds in the past, and prices may have changed (for the worst mostly because hdd prices are through the roof) but upgrading this current computer is mostly a waste of time because you have an agp mobo which most nothing supports, ddr ram, which has been outdated for a while, and the pentium D wasn't the best processor when it was first released.
But my family doesn't give 2 shits for my computer (except for my brother, but when I talk to him about stuff, I feel like a fucking moron and feels like I'm asking for too much) So whenever I say stuff like, "I need a new computer" I feel like a jackass somehow.
Also, I bet my family couldn't put enough money into my computer stuff.
[editline]25th November 2011[/editline]
And I also want to find out my bros mobo so then I can get some hand-me downs from his other parts.
I fucking want it to fucking badly fucking fuck

Let me make this clear: Don't depend you your family for upgrade money. Save it up yourself. That's what I did.
I bought an already pretty decent machine off of Craigslist ($250 total for a really nice case, two DVD-RW drives, and a good Gigabyte motherboard). From there, I plop in a GTX 560 Ti, a quad-core Phenom II processor, and some 4GB DDR2 RAM. Bingo, cheap but very powerful setup.
Computers are expensive, and there's no way to get around paying for pricey stuff if you want a gaming platform.
Though, if you don't feel like saving about $700 total for a beefy machine, just go to Wal-Mart and buy a $300 eMachine or whatever they have on the shelf. They have gotten pretty decent in the past few years and even my grandmother's ran older games pretty well.
The only way for me to save up is with this $10 allowance, and no other way.
25 weeks for $250
I am so impatient.
