So, from what I understand, this action RPG is a hard-core game for hard-core gamers. According to Giantbomb, it is fair, but it is punishing. If something is bigger than you, it will probably kill you. The key to this game is to respect .
It comes out on Tuesday, October 4. A collector's edition was available for the exact same price as the standard edition if you pre-orded. You might still get a collector's edition, though, on the 4th. I'll be buying this instead of Rage because, well, I'm kind of FPSed out right now. And everything in Rage looks a tad too brown for me. Plus the last game I enjoyed from ID came out in 1997, and it was called Quake II. Who knows, maybe they're due for a good game. IDK, I'll wait to see what the reviews say.
But this game has got me excited. I've always wanted a game that would punish me for running headlong into a bunch of monsters without actually thinking, making me scream like a little girl. And if you watch IGN's or Giantbomb's streams, there is a lot of screaming.
From Giantbomb:
Long ago the world was a gray, lifeless place covered in fog and dominated by dragons. Then, fire appeared, and creatures emerged from the dark, finding souls of lords within the flames: Nito, first of the dead; the Izalith witch and her chaos daughters; Gwyn, lord of sunlight, and his knights; and the sneaky, easily forgotten pygmy. They challenged the dragons. With Nito's powers of disease, the witches' firestorms, Gwyn's powerful bolts and the aid of Seath the Scaleless, a dragon who betrayed his own kind, they succeeded, vanquishing the dragons and starting the Age of Fire.
Such is the game's backstory. Not much is currently known about the world as it is in the game, or the events that will there transpire, but it involves themes like "kings and knights", "death and the depths of the earth", and "the flames of chaos".
Some things I've learned about Dark Souls this past week from watching previews:
You can choose from these 10 classes:
Warrior
Knight
Wanderer
Thief
Bandit
Hunter
Sorcerer
Pyromancer
Cleric
Deprived
But after about Level 10, you can use basically any item or armor piece for any of the classes, which makes it easier to play how you want to play.
This game allows no chatting, at all (and if you want to whine about it, I suggest going to GameFaqs and whine there, as that's where it seems that 12 year olds who don't have their own cell phones go). The reason is that the devs wanted the player to feel very alone and isolated. However, there is a system where players can leave "notes" in the world for other players to find. These notes can be helpful or hurtful. In one instance, I saw, a player found another player's note saying, "Big bad knight up ahead." And there was. Another note said, "Nice treasure at the top of the stairs." There wasn't - just death.
Players can also see how other players died by viewing their "ghosts" left behind by blood stains. Furthermore, you can "invade" another player's game and help them with bosses or be a dick and kill them. So far, the gaming culture in Japan, with this game, seems to be overwhelmingly helpful - players helping other players out. In the US, so far, it is the opposite. Yay, the US is full of trolls.
Anyway, this is my first game OP, and this game doesn't seem to be represented here on FP. I figured this would be a good place for my friendly fellow FPers to come, share strategies, brag about boss defeats, or just have a good, cathartic, cry.

The whole next 15 minutes is pretty cool, as they try to sneak past the Dragon, the run into a giant knight of punishment (not official name) and a giant steel boar.
Demon Souls was the only game that I've walked away from due to immense amount of "FUCK THIS MONSTER/NPC/BOSS".
I still have to wait 6 days to get it,Might pre-order it.
$88 limited edition is the cheapest console game i have ever seen so far.

No Royal class?
How will i be a sucky noob now :(
Am I the only person who feels that demon's souls wasn't a legitimately hard, it just had this faux difficulty brought on by cheap enemies who'd kill you in 1/2 hits?

It wasn't even hard. Warding makes the game a joke.
Considering people have finished Demon's Souls NG++ on soul level 1 as a de-leveled Royal, I think it's just a matter of knowing what to do and being able to do it well.
Also Demon's Souls had a shit ton of exploits that let you render most bosses easier than the enemies inhabiting the level.
October 4th?! Damn, I'll keep my money at home so I won't spend a damn penny. Can't wait. This is a dream coming true, I love Demon's Souls with a passion. Anybody else saw that demon girl walking around GamesCom?

Man i suck at online shipping, Never done it before.

Sorcerer, Pyro, or Cleric would probably be the new Royal.
The all start with a weapon and something for casting, as well as a low level.

It could be hard, depening on what you pick. Because i picked Royal and spammed Soul Arrow, most bosses where easy. Due to magic being a bit overpowered.

After watching a lot of play throughs, it seems that if you have a decent shield, and have it raised, you can withstand many attacks against characters of equal level.
I also have to say that getting hit by a sword and dying after 1-2 hits isn't cheap, but "realistic." I like the idea of ever present danger, and of using caution to win. During the IGN playthrough, one review said that 95% of the deaths were the player's fault. I like that.
I've just learned about this game and I must say, the whole community run "Help or Hinder" setting as I like to call it is really intriguing. That and I'm a huge sucker for roguelike-esque games. I think I'll definitely have to pick this one up some time, thanks OP.

Man i suck at online shipping, Never done it before.
I don't know. I just went to amazon.com and looked for Dark Souls. It doesn't matter which region you get if you order for PS3, but apparently 360 has region locking so check before ordering if you're getting it for 360. I'm getting it on PS3 so I had no problems. Also the preorder collecters edition deal (same price as regular edition) should still be on
edit: actually make sure you check how much shipping costs because it does add a fair bit. It'll still be cheaper than buying in store in Australia, but depending on how much you're willing to spend it could take a while to be delivered
I just bought it at the local "Game" shop.
Some guy i speak to works there and is the manager so i don't really mind.
PVP footage + invis ring = F.U.N

probably most thing I dislike about the game now to be honest. Seems really unnecessary.
Wow that guy playing with the invis ring is a dick, I'd ragequit right then and there.

Well it's one thing because he's dealing with invading Black Phantoms, but it's still a rather bitch move; especially being capable of insta-killing anyone and they're not able to do anything about it.
Op is updated with some reviews coming in. Everything seems to be above 90%.

You DO realize there's already an established Dark Souls thread, right?

You do realize that the only Dark Souls thread is split between Demon Souls, was created in August, and has very little info about Dark Souls in the OP.
The only other thread is about the E3 demo. If you don't like what I've done here, get the fuuuuck out. I'm just trying to be helpful, and you're just trying to be an asshat.

Whoa, geeze, touched a nerve, did I.
Oh man, this game. I was an absolute boss at demon's souls (mind you, it was after countless hours), but I have died so, fucking much in the first half an hour of this game that I almost had to put it away. It is much, much more difficult and a whole lot of unforgiving. Absolutely love it though, it keeps calling me back for more.
