So, while playing a HL1 Mod that just kicked me back into HL1, I thought of something. HECU Grunts are a little dumb. So how could this be solved?
That's when I remembered how much my friend kills the shit out of me on every deathmatch game or Counter Strike, so I was used to him killing me.
Imagine, one man, The Freeman, running through Black Mesa, being hunted by HECU Grunts. Now imagine being those grunts, all the tactical planning to avoid being easily killed.
Problem is that I have no modding skills. Take full credit, but this would be an epic mod. If you don't want to play this, you're mad.
So it's like Freeman Vs. Human Controlled Grunts?
Good luck Gordon
So it's like Freeman Vs. Human Controlled Grunts?
Good luck Gordon
They'd have lower than average stats (lower health, damage, etc)
It's been thought of soooo often.
It's been thought of soooo often.
And nobody has done it? The modding community makes so many shitty mods and avoids the good ones...
Because the modding community is a small group, and the ones who create mods want to create what they feel is good for them.
Most of the time, when someone tries to make a mod, no one wants to help because they have either little progress or they see something as fail and just blow it off, or they have their own ideas and don't want to help. what people don't understand is, it takes work to get things done, so per say people won't see that many mods if they keep putting down other mods saying "oh just ideas guy" "get more progress". There is only so much progress you can get by your self unless you teach yourself, coding, modeling, mapping, sound design, texture design. You can get lucky and get people who want to help, but most of the time, people see new mod ideas and dont give a crap about helping a mod that is in its beginning phases, because they don't see anything visually and they don't want to stick their 'name' onto a project that doesn't look good(hasn't even started that much yet).
Again this is just my experience from watching other mods, trying to create my own mods. Most of what I have written has been off experience, or people have told me has happened to their mods.
Since than, I have learned mapping, texture design, some coding, and even some sound design. It has taken forever but it isn't a bad thing to learn.
So basically you're the Ideas guy for a HL1 Version of the TF2 Vs. Saxton Hale mod.
I can't wait to not play it.
well 2 hour ninja by guy above. Should learn to read.
GG Freeman. We hardly knew ye.
That's such a dumb idea.
It's literally not original at all (as said above it's basically TF2's Saxton Hale mod) and it doesn't even sound like a good idea anyway as HL is a more realistic series while TF2 does it better.
If you have been on Facepunch before then you should know that they were going to smash your idea threads into tiny little parts.
So it's like the Verus mode in L4D?
this is called juggernaut and it's been in tons of games
It seems like a decent idea, actually.
In fact, if you were to just use Opposing Force's assets for the grunts and were given access to the NAV code for the freeman bot you could create something like this relatively simply.
Stick a freeman bot at some point in the map and have him run and jump around similarly to TF2's bots along a waypoint path while attacking players.
Additionally, porting over GoldSrc models is as simple as a recompile.
Don't heed the pessimistic guys that spam up this section.
I can't wait to not play it.
Why are you waiting? I'm not playing it right now!
Sort of reminds me of The Crossing. Anyone else remember that? It was a pretty cool idea, but then the guys making it put it on hold.
Sort of reminds me of The Crossing. Anyone else remember that? It was a pretty cool idea, but then the guys making it put it on hold.
Man, that's exactly what I wanted, too. I don't even care if its Half Life, I just thought it'd make for a simpler mod.
I'll help! I am very good at making ideas. :downs:
