• I converted the new Valve intro into .bik format.

I wasn't quite sure whether to post this in a bunch of threads, or just one and wait for it to spread around, so instead I'm just going to make this thread. This is the new Valve intro, taken from the Dota 2 client and converted into the format Valve uses for in-game videos. Installation: You can simply drag and drop this file into the media folder of any Valve game and you'll see it when you start the game. cool
Where can I see it previewed?
This means you can use it as the default start ups in their current games. Edit: I need to read the OP....
This means you can use it as the default start ups in their current games.
oh i didn't know that

holy shit, did his fucking head turn?!
yes
-snip- See post below.
Seems to me that you converted the YouTube video of it instead of the actual file Valve uses in Dota 2. (There are fraps FPS counters in the first few frames) THIS is the actual video used in Dota 2, if someone could see if they could convert THAT to .bik (I tried but couldn't find anything. Hell, Media Player Classic is the only player that comes close to actually viewing it) it'd be the real deal.
meh, you have to look closely to see the fraps counter thing. not a big deal. [editline]25th September 2011[/editline]
Eh its converted, let me just ... grab the original version one here ..... (Will be back with it)
what
Fucking christ I got enough nightmares out of watching that on youtube the first time, I especially don't need night terrors every time I launch TF2 or GMOD or CS:S

For some reason I could only read it in windows media player http://i.imgur.com/ZnvfQ.png
Its a scaleform video codec, thats all I know.
Scaleform is by Epic Games or something apparently. I think they do a player for it. Fairly sure we're still on Source though.

Scaleform is by Autodesk apparently, don't know if there's any converters
CRI Movie 2 codecs should be able to read it, apparently.
apparently
wow really valve really
-snip- Seems like the original file wasn't a .bik
if they're using scaleform it probably means VGUI's out
if they're using scaleform it probably means VGUI's out
We've known this for awhile. I got bink to TRY And convert it. It looks like an Acid trip. Edit: Anyone with the UDK should be able to extract the video.
I've been investigating this mysterious usm format and, from what I gather, there's nothing we can do. However, that won't stop me. I found reference to a program called VGMToolbox which apparently can handle the CRI Movie 2 format, hence I tried it on Valve's new intro video and this was the result: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTuQkP4jJDQ This is pretty good, you have to admit, but I suppose some of the conversion artifacts do need to be touched up. Oh, and I accidentally clicked the save button when screwing around with the YouTube edit feature and I can't cancel it. If you read this a few hours from now and notice some weird Christian song in the background, that's why.

With the guy moving is even creepier but I will install it for some games, thanks for it.
You're all overcomplicating things. Here, I edited out the counter: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2246763/valve.bik
Does this mean they actually found the guy they used the first time? Because I remember there being an article where they were looking for him but didn't know where to look or under what name.
