Microsoft FAQ
Q:
What is "Microsoft Flight?"
A:
"Microsoft Flight" is a new PC game from Microsoft Game Studios. The new title will be available on the Games for Windows - LIVE service and will bring a new perspective to the long-standing "Flight Simulator" franchise. From new game play elements and enhanced scenery and terrain to new aircraft and integrated content marketplace, it is an entirely new breed of virtual flight. The Games for Windows - LIVE platform sets the stage for all your virtual flight needs while connecting you to a global base of users, content and endless exploration. Microsoft Flight builds off its heritage of deep, immersive simulation and is redesigned to make the experience easier for virtual fliers of all interests and skills.
Q:
How does “Microsoft Flight” differ from “Flight Simulator?” Why the new name? What’s changed?
A:
With “Microsoft Flight” we’re approaching the virtual flight genre from the ground up, with the focus on the universal appeal of the experience of Flight. We believe the simplicity of “Microsoft Flight” perfectly captures that vision while welcoming the millions of existing Flight Simulator fans. The new “Microsoft Flight” retains the full fidelity simulation longtime fans have come to expect while offering all players a whole new look and feel, a wide range of new game play and challenges, persistent experiences and social connectivity.
Q:
How does Games for Windows – LIVE factor in?
A:
Games for Windows – LIVE introduces a new level of connectivity to virtual flight, enhancing both the social and game play experiences of the title. Content is updated virtually. You can fly solo or join an entire global flight community online. You can easily connect with and facilitate flight experiences with your friends. The addition of Games for Windows - LIVE creates an ubiquitous virtual world of flight that offers easy and engaging access to the magic of flight for all.
Q:
Who is developing “Microsoft Flight” now that ACES is gone?
A:
“Microsoft Flight” is being developed internally at Microsoft by a team that includes many of the same creative minds that helped deliver countless entries in the “Flight Simulator” franchise.
Q:
Why did Microsoft shut down ACES Studio last January?
A:
Microsoft Game Studios is always evaluating its business model to determine what is best for both gamers and the company. Many factors were considered in the difficult decision to close ACES Studio, but we feel the 2009 closure helped us better align with our goals and long-term development plans. "Microsoft Flight" is being developed by many of the same creative minds that shaped "Microsoft Flight Simulator," and we're excited about delivering a new take on this classic franchise.
Only good flight simulators are combat flight simulators.
You may not like the idea but I would rather not be banned online because "I didn't set the radio frequency correctly"
Or
"Did an aileron roll"
Looks promising, I've always liked flight sims.

There was confirmed information that there is different gamemodes. Who knows? There might be a combat game mode and a simple game mode.
FSX was, to me, the future of Flight Sims by Microsoft. Unoptimized as shit, far beyond any of the previous titles, and more casualized to appeal to a wider range of audiences. And I have a gut feeling that this is going to go a step beyond even that
FS9 was the last MSFS worth a damn
I'm diffidently getting this when it comes out. it will sit nicely on my shelf with the past 9 FS games and X-Plane.

This is by far the best thing announced. The ability to fly with hundreds or possibly thousands of other people in a persistent world. Wow.

Oh. Christ.
Oh god there would be so many asshole kamakazis crashing into people who are trying to fly peacefully.

It would probably be better if the X-plane weapon system was implemented. You could shoot down the shitty suicidal pilots before they caused any trouble.
why have such pretty water if i can't fly under it with my plane
live with the fishes u know

You're looking for the Silent Hunter games.

then suddenly faggots getting into stratbombers and going over airports
why did they fire the entire flight simulator team then announce this
Hope Microsoft releases more info at E3.
I played Flight Simulator 98 i think with my grampa at his house (He used to be a pilot). Key buildings were untextured boxes, ground was a low-res muddled mess. Ahh, nostalgia.
I'm going to play Flight Simulator X now.
I'm planning on setting up a game [once my game-spy account desides not be shittarded] and play with you guys.

Why would you want to fly peacefully anyway?

I agree completely. There never really seemed to be a server with leanency when it comes to talking to an air traffic controller. So i steered well clear of FSX online. Other than that I rather enjoyed it.
Fucking gamespy.
I hope the online on this new one is better.
Sad they did not say anything during E3 :smith:
Hope they release some information, I heard it the game will be released this year.

[release]
CASUAL GAMES CONSOLE EXCLUSIVES KINECT KINECT XBOX KINECT KINECT XBOX HALO KINECT GEARS OF WAR TERRIBLE CHILD ACTORS KINECT ICE-T DID I MENTION KINECT
[/release]
almost makes you forget they fucking make windows
E3 is usually only good for the game trailers and reveals.
integrated content marketplace
Aaaaaaaand were done here, hello FS2004!
Why would you want to fly peacefully anyway?
Passenger jets would be boring for me but if the terrain is nice I could fly an ultralight or bush plane for hours and hours, just exploring
I hope that you can actually see other users planes, not like in FSX where it is replaced with the default plane.
What is better?
X-plane or FSX?

On-topic this sounds pretty great. Not always been one for flight simulators but the multiplayer seems intriguing.

I've never played X-Plane but I do like FSX.
FSX is great but the fact that my gtx 460 can't handle it maxed, makes me sad. :frown:
