since GoG decided to release Empire Earth free (http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1147280),
I'm guessing a lot more people want to play the actual game, However, this version does not work online, since Sierra shut down it's servers oh so long ago.
However, there is a lobby client that allows for people to organise games over Direct connect:

Essentially, you organise a game, the client gives you an IP which you copy-paste into EE's direct connect menu.
Being one of my most favourite games of my childhood, up until now, i'd love to see more people to play against online, however, all the existing users on the lobby client are absolute pros, so hopefully we can get a couple of Facepunch games going.

He didn't exactly describe what the lobby is, or how to use it.

Still, you could have posted about it in the thread. There's no need for a new one.
