• Is the survival horror genre dying?

I love survival horror games. Heck, I love everything horror based. It really saddens me to see the fact that not much horror games have came out lately, except for Amnesia, which was an extraordinary game. Anyways, am I the only one who wants more horror games? Small range of x genre being produced =/= dieing out of genre.
I miss resident evil games (Not talking about this parody of resident evil, that was released as RE4 and RE5... it's a comedy not a game). Yea, there aren't many games, but there are pretty decent at least. Especially those who created such great games like Penumbra series (most people know them for Amnesia).
I know what you mean. They don't do what they do with Amnesia much anymore. Most mainstream games that involve spookies now like Dead Island try to appeal to larger audiences and end up not being even slightly scary. (Not that Dead Island is a bad game)

That's not terribly frightening, either, but it's still an excellent game.
RE became an action series. RE5 didn't even scare me once and I got freaked out watching people play RE2
Ever since I played Amnesia the dark decent, nothing scares me. Why build better mousetraps when the best one out there has been released, and it's $15
yeah it's a dying genre. we need more stuff like silent hill and resident evil, being you know, psychologically thrilling in a way survival horror is now just action with jump bits in it.
r.i.p survival horror - you ran out of herbs or something
What? Yes it does, if only a few titles are being made for a genre, and less are made each year, it's dying.
I dunno; I don't really see many platformers nowadays either, unless it's by dinosaurs of gaming like Mario and Sonic who run on concentrated Grandfather Clause. Would you say that the platformer genre is "dying"?

Survival horror isn't necessarily dead, it just sucks right now. When you look up survival horror the most you get (on a game website or similar) is Dead Space, Amnesia and RE5. Along with some other odds and ends like FEAR. Dead Space and Amnesia are the best survival horror games we have in recent times. RE5 and FEAR are action games that are supposed to be scary-ish but just have darker atmospheres. So no, it's not dead or dying, just slow right now. Nobody pays much attention to it right now. A new Silent Hill game is coming out soon, so hopefully it'll be good.
Dead Space is more Survival horror blended with action right now.
After Amnesia, what else matters? Can't really go anywhere once you're on top.
We need more games that don't try to scare you by making loud noises and having random shit pop out from every corner. I want a game that genuinely scares me, rather than making me jump for a second.
Hell no. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 baby.

The ONLY game that has EVER scared me is Amnesia. For me, most horror games are just "Flee the thing" or usually "Shoot the thing". (Not that thats bad, chases are fun.)
There needs to be a survival horror game that manages ammo a lot better. It always ends up that you have way too much ammo and then it just turns into an action shooter.
resident evil 3 was a good example of scaring you by making something pop out at you because nemesis scared the SHIT out of me every time he came onto screen
I was more fucked by the sounds and text that appeared whenever you were in a safe spot, making your character look out the window was fucking grim, I should of mentioned that fucking guy who locked himself in a truck and when you come back you find blood and the truck ripped apart
There needs to be a survival horror game that manages ammo a lot better.
There needs to be a survival horror game that manages ammo a lot better. Of course, by the second play through you learn to be a little more conservative with your ammo.
