I have GCFScape and can't get the sound files because I haven't downloaded the game, I installed it from a CD.
Even if you installed it from a CD, wouldn't the files be the exact same? AFAIK game files don't change when it's on a CD so you should be able to do it normally.

Well, the files actually do show up, but they're highlighted in grey and when I click them, they won't play saying (Error: NCF files are indexes and do not contain any file data.)
They're in the folders. Simple as that.
They're in there son keep looking
I know where they are, I just want to know how to make them work. :c
That's a pretty broad question. Work for what?

I want to edit a video and add voice clips to it.
Extract the sound files, and add them to your video(?).
Umm, you're looking at the .ncf files. You do not know where the files are. The files are IN the left 4 dead 2 servers, open the pak_dir.vpk.

I FOUND IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU GUYS
.ncf doesn't contain any files, they're just pointers. On a fresh install, you should usually get most sounds extracted in your /sounds folder. If sounds are missing check pak_dir.vpk for the sounds you need.
