Homefront is an upcoming first-person-shooter video game developed by Kaos Studios and published by THQ. It is scheduled to be released for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Microsoft Windows on March 8, 2011 in North America and March 10, 2011 in Australia and March 11, 2011 in Europe and April 29, 2011 in Japan. Its tagline is: "Home is where the war is."
HOMEFRONT TIMELINE: http://www.homefront-game.com/#/timeline
Homefront

is set in a near future America in 2027 when a now-nuclear armed Korea People's Army invades the USA. The game is written by John Milius, who co-wrote Apocalypse Now and wrote Red Dawn. The beginning gameplay is reportedly set in Montrose, Colorado. One of the major portions of the story arc is built around not only the growth of the North Korean forces over the years leading to the year 2027 (the year in which the game takes place), but also the economic downfall of the United States, and the unrest that seems to grip the nation before the invasion. Homefront is speculative fiction, set in a near-future, post peak oil world that features a significantly declined United States, and a united Best Korea that has built a massive alliance in East Asia. The Gate Corporation (a major private military company) also plays a minor role. The game focuses on the collapse of the United States, subsequent occupation by the Greater Korean Republic - a united Korea under the rule of the North (AKA the Best) - and the American Resistance that fights said occupation. The player is invited to join the American resistance, "using guerrilla tactics, commandeering military vehicles, and utilizing advanced drone technology", though the player can join the Korean Occupation Force if he so chooses. The game will also feature vehicle based 32 player online warfare using dedicated servers. The game is planned to ship on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, for which system requirements have not yet been released. The game world also features fictional physics; for example, and objects of interest are magnetically attracted to the player.
So what's the story, basically? Glorious Leader uses his God powers (and lots of steroids) to beef up Best Korea into an empire with power comparative to the USSR at its height (pretty damn badass), and invades a heavily-declined USA. You play as an American Resistance member (or, if you choose to, possibly Korean Occupation Force member, if it gives you two options) and fight a series of missions to beat the commies back to Best Korea. It's a first person shooter with, so information says, tactical/strategic elements. Multiplayer? Yes. Will it be delivered on Steam, not just discs? Yes. Is our favourite holy nation of Best Korea playable/sideable with? Yes. Why do the Korean soldiers in the pictures have American M4s/M16s? Best Korea, in the game, took over South Korea. South Korea, in real life, is supplied heavily by NATO. Therefore, if Best Korea took them over, they'd immediately have access to American and European weaponry. (Any FAQs will be added to this) http://youtube.com/watch?v=D5yyWZ2Z6Ps http://youtube.com/watch?v=wuCcZnVPDpc MULTIPLAYER/GAMEPLAY TRAILERS http://youtube.com/watch?v=56hvLvk48mM http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZtZCmBjkDH8 MORE SCREENSHOTS/ARTWORK:
i have been wondering for a while why there wasn't a thread on this game. sounds EXTREMELY interesting and I will probably end up buying it.
It looks okay but this had really bring something really revolutionary to the table. The whole "modern warfare action shooter" thing is starting to become a really tired premise. Mindlessly gunning down the same enemies with the same guns starts to get tiring. Are there any actual gameplay videos instead of gameplay trailers?

Especially without some derp weapon being the one everyone uses or spams. That is what gets old. This looks like it could be some good fun.. but I really can't tell.
Hey cool a thread for a game that already has a thread! Why did you post the same picture 3 times on the OP???
Why is the NK dude using a M16? [editline]10th January 2011[/editline]
It looks okay but this had really bring something really revolutionary to the table. I hope there's the "dark side" of resistance fighting, you know, like executing "enemy sympathizers" and some stuff in the setting to show that American "freedom fighters" aren't so different from the Taliban and Iraqi insurgents.
HAHAHA, Oh wow, I started watching the first gameplay video, and I live in fort collins.
Ha, North Korea forming an alliance. That's as likely as me sprouting an M60 out of my forearm and becoming Master Of Space. [editline]10th January 2011[/editline]
Maybe because Kaos Studios thinks that American-made weapons are associated with a high-tech, world-class military force, which the North Korean forces are in Homefront. There's a dark side to repulsing an enemy invasion bent on your utmost destruction? It's not like we were indoctrinating the nation's children into becoming extremist killing machines.
Why is it that the communists attack the US miraculously. Why can't there be a video game of the US just invading as they plea- oh wait.
Ha, North Korea forming an alliance. It simply wasn't possible to foresee.
[editline]10th January 2011[/editline] Wait... There's a dark side to repulsing an enemy invasion bent on your utmost destruction? It's not like we were indoctrinating the nation's children into becoming extremist killing machines.
Utmost destruction or an occupation due to North Korean foreign policy (the US still poses a threat to the security of North Korea, that's what I can dig from the setting trailers)? You don't see NK dudes in the game going all terminator and shooting anything that moves.
It's probably best not to think too hard about the implausibility of the situation in the game.
I want to get this game. Looks like a mix of CoD's tight spaces with Battlefield's large battlefronts and vehicles.

Pretty much they want to make you feel bad for killing people, and after all you're a part of a resistance and were previously a civilian, and (afaik) have no history of being part of an army. Although I can't see this applying in MP so much, personally I won't be buying the game for MP though. What I'm mainly trying to say though is that I hope this will change it from being a generic modern-warfare shooter. Also OP all this "Best Korea" stuff doesn't really apply to Homefront, as North and South Korea both united in the game so really there is only 1 Korea. Oh and the developer diaries, I may as well post them here (some are in the OP, but not all). The one that I was talking about above is the one titled "Fight for Freedom", I would recommend watching it if not the others as well if you're showing interest in this game. Why the fuck is all the korean weapons m16 or Similar american weapons ? fucking patriots get your head out of the gutter HAHA Connor Resistance legend Wild card Keycombat figure? Sounds familiar ? Terminator anyone ?
This is what L4D2 should have looked like.
Halfway into the story-line Aliens will invade the earth.
Fun fact: game is made by the guys who made desert combat mod for 1942.
http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1027917-Homefront-Written-by-that-guy-who-wrote-Red-Dawn? !
This.
I think I'll buy it, but mostly for the single-player. The MP looks way too much like all the others.
Fun fact: game is made by the guys who made desert combat mod for 1942.
Hopefully not the same guys who made Frontlines: Fuel of War.
Maybe because Kaos Studios thinks that American-made weapons are associated with a high-tech, world-class military force, which the North Korean forces are in Homefront. All the freedom fighters will be handsome, strong and patriotic Americans who probably quote the bible during gameplay.
Hopefully not the same guys who made Frontlines: Fuel of War.
They are one in the same. Frontlines wasn't bad anyway. All the complaints I had for it I had for Battlefield 2. Bonus points for having a decent singleplayer.
This is what L4D2 should have looked like.
What the fuck are you talking about?
Games gonna be awesome, I can feel it.
It's probably best not to think too hard about the implausibility of the situation in the game.
It's implausible that a lone American/SAS soldier could go behind enemy lines during WW3 and kill 500+ Russians, but no one complains when that's done in Call of Duty. [editline]11th January 2011[/editline]
Hey cool a thread for a game that already has a thread! Why did you post the same picture 3 times on the OP???
Didn't you read the OP? It says I accidentally pasted the image, but if I re-edited it, all the video links would fuck up. Also, I searched the first 10 pages of GGD, and couldn't find a thread on this. If there's some obscure thread with 4 posts back from the fall of 2010, my apologies that I didn't find it. [editline]11th January 2011[/editline]
Why is it that the communists attack the US miraculously.
Basically, the US economy collapsed entirely, leading to the military degrading into a useless, obsolete entity. North Korea, on the other hand, combined all of southern Asia together, and now has a superpower army that brushes aside the US. [editline]11th January 2011[/editline]
Maybe because Kaos Studios thinks that American-made weapons are associated with a high-tech, world-class military force, which the North Korean forces are in Homefront. [editline]11th January 2011[/editline]
Wait... There's a dark side to repulsing an enemy invasion bent on your utmost destruction?
It's implausible that a lone American/SAS soldier could go behind enemy lines during WW3 and kill 500+ Russians, but no one complains when that's done in Call of Duty.
That's my point, games are inherently silly in regards to how they compare to real life, trying to deduce political meaning from them is like fishing for condoms in the Vatican's pond.
That's my point, games are inherently silly in regards to how they compare to real life, trying to deduce political meaning from them is like fishing for condoms in the Vatican's pond.
Exactly.
